We would not recommend placing Advion Ant Bait Gel on any porous surfaces like paper as it will absorb the moisture of the bait and cause it to dry out faster. You can place the bait in a Bait Plate Station instead. The small amount the ants pick up after eating/contacting would not contaminate other surfaces. We do have a great video here for helpful tips on baiting.
No, Advion Ant Bait Gel is not dangerous to place under a stove. It is recommended that Advion Ant Bait Gel not be placed in areas where temperatures are above 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit. This will cause the bait to liquefy and lose its effectiveness.
Indoor applications of Advion Ant Bait Gel can include cracks and crevices; along walls or floors, in and around furniture and cabinetry, behind or under appliances, around sinks, within or near garbage collection areas, attics and crawl spaces. Inspect applications periodically for consumption/activity and apply additional bait as needed. Do not apply to surfaces that food contacts or to areas that are routinely washed, such as food preparation surfaces. Do not apply Advion Ant Bait Gel to surfaces where the temperature exceeds 120-130 degrees F because this could cause the bait to liquefy and lose effectiveness. Placements of bait should be small pea sized placements 6-12 inches apart in previously listed areas. Please follow the product label for safety concerns. How long it takes for Advion Ant Bait Gel to completely kill the ant colony depends on the size of the colony and how many colonies you are actually dealing with. You should continue to bait as long as there is activity. It can also depend on the type of ants you are dealing with.
Depending on what type of ants you are dealing with, and if you are able to see where the ants are trailing inside, it may be possible to treat with an ant bait gel such as Advion. The bait is very attractive to ants and offers a delayed reaction which allows the ants to get back to their colony where they will spread it. Another option would be to use a spray such as Phantom II, which has a transfer effect, allowing insects to pick up the product and spread it to one another through contact. All of these products are pet safe if used as directed.
The “REL 5/17” on the Advion Ant Bait Gel stands for release date. The shelf life of this product is up to 5 years from the date of purchase if unopened and stored at room temperature.
Advion Ant Bait Gel is labeled to target all major species of ants including Argentine, Big Headed, Carpenter, Cornfield, Crazy, Field, Ghost, Harvester, Honey, Little Black, Odorous House, Pavement, Pharaoh, Pyramid, Red Imported Fire Ant, Rover, Thief and White Footed. Flying ants are just regular ants that are leaving to start a new colony. Indoors these ants will not be able to complete their mission to start a new colony and will soon die on their own. If they are a nuisance to you, you can use a pyrethrin aerosol such as Microcare to knock them down. If indeed you do have flying ants indoors this could also mean that you have an ant colony in a wall void or in some other inaccessible area indoors. You could try to put a little peanut butter and a little honey on a piece of foil near where you are seeing ant activity to see if they will start trailing. If they do form a trail this could point to where they are nesting. You will also be able to switch out the peanut butter (protein based) and honey (sugar based) for ant bait which in turn will eliminate the nesting ants. Please review our Ant Treatment Guide for more information.
