We cannot say for certain if a mouse would die after ingesting Advion Ant Bait Gel as it is not labeled. We would suggest contacting the manufacturer directly for more information at 800-334-9481.

    Q
How to treat little ants and roaches inside a yacht?
Have been seeing activity on a boat that came from the Bahamas about 5 days ago. Been seeing 3 live roaches and some ants around the kitchen. What do you recommend for bait treatment since I believe pesticides cannot be used inside boat?
    A

While a bait gel such as the Advion could be used for ants and roaches, you may find better success with an application of Shockwave Aerosol  to the cracks and crevices of the boat where you've seen activity. Shockwave contains contact kill and residual ingredients, as well as an IGR to stop the reproductive cycle of the insects so they don't continue to grow in number. You can use the crack and crevice straw it comes with to spray into crevices of cabinets, storage, under appliances, etc, as long as you avoid any food prep surfaces and cover or remove any exposed food items or utensils before treating. Shockwave Aerosol is labeled for use on boats as long as label instructions are followed.

    Q
Is it normal to continue to see crazy ants after using the Advion Ant Bait Gel all week and they are still coming back?
    A

Advion Ant Bait Gel is a great bait for crazy ants and a variety of other species. Due to their high colony numbers and nature of the crazy ant species, you cannot expect to see a difference in that population in a week or even several weeks.

Crazy ants move in very high numbers and can be difficult to control and many customers find they have to contend with them each year due to how invasive that species is and can be. If they are taking to the bait that is a fantastic sign as they often do not take baits at all but rather find or create their own to sustain the colony. As long as the ants are readily going to and taking the bait, you want to keep a steady supply of it in the bait stations you are using outside to control them.

Continue to refill as needed and the ant colony will drop in number, it just likely will take several weeks to see a significant difference.

    Q
Why are ants attracted to Advion Ant Bait Gel?
    A

Gel baits such as Advion Ant Bait Gel contains an insecticide along with a sugar based food attractant that appeals to foraging worker ants that are looking for sweet food sources.

Foraging ants are in search of a sweet or protien food source depending on the needs of the colony therefore it is recommeneded when baiting for ants to offer both a sweet bait (gel) and a protein (granule) ant bait in the bait plate stations

    Q
As mentioned in your YouTube Video, what is the enzyme that Advion Ant Bait Gel interacts with? Is this considered a neurotoxin since it affects their nervous system?
    A

The Advion Ant Bait Gel contains Indoxacarb, which is an oxadiazine pesticide originally manufactured and patented by DuPont.

Please read over this article on the studies of Indoxacarb and the Mechanism of Toxicity.

In insects, indoxacarb is absorbed via ingestion with lesser amounts absorbed across the insect cuticle, and it is bioactivated by the cleaving of a carbomethoxy group from the parent compound. The active metabolite binds to and blocks voltage-dependent sodium channels within the insect nervous system, resulting in paralysis and death of the insect.

    Q
Do ants develop resistance to Advion Ant Gel?
I have been using Advion ant gel successfully for 3-5 years now. In our recent infestation I have been baiting indoors for almost 3 weeks, but the ants just keep on coming. They mob the stuff, disappear for a day or two, then come back. Could they have become resistant? If so, do you recommend something else to rotate to?
    A

Ants generally look for either a sugar or a protein food source. Advion Ant Bait Gel is a sugar. We always recommend using something like Advance 375A Select Granular Bait in conjunction with the sugar bait. This will take care of both of their food sources. Please check out our Ant Guide as well for tips on how to prevent and treat for ants.  Bait aversion is more common than bait resistance.

    Q
Where would the manufactured date and expiration date be written on Advion Ant Bait Gel?
    A

Syngenta, the manufacturer of Advion moved away from REL dates on their baits and they now come with a Lot # that corresponds to the production of that product. The first 3 letters will usually be "ABW" which can be ignored as this corresponds to the facility the batch was produced in. The next number is for the last digit of the year it was produced. For 2021 this would be ABW1. To indicate the month, the letter after the year in the code would be in alphabetical order if January = A, February = B. So a Lot of ABW1B would be produced in February of 20201. The dates of Advion Ant Bait Gel will be located on the tubes themselves.

The shelf life of bait gels is 2-3 years when stored in a cool dry temperature control environment and not exposed to extreme heat or freezing temps.

    Q
How long should Advion Ant Bait Gel be reapplied if Carpenter Ants are still active after 2 applications over 17 days?
I have seen a big difference in population after using the gel (Carpenter Ants) but they reappeared after a couple of days. This time they are actually reappearing but they look lost and sick/dying for a lot of them.
    A

Advion Ant Bait Gel uses the non repellent active ingredient Indoxacarb which is a slow acting treatment that allows ants time to take the bait back to the colony and share with other ants. This is preferred for treating Carpenter Ants to ensure the entire colony receives the ant bait.

Continue to use as many bait placements as needed to active foraging areas without disrupting the natural foraging behavior of the ant colony. This means placing bait gel just barely off the foraging trails and areas where you see them traveling.

Please view our Carpenter Ant Treatment Guide for more information.

    Q
What reasons would there be if using Advion Ant Bait Gel and the ants are not going into the bait traps nor taking the bait?
    A

Advion Ant Bait Gel is a carbohydrate (sweet) bait. Ants are either looking for a protein or carbohydrate food source based on what dietary need the colony has. We recommend when baiting for ants to also use a granular (protein) bait so you are offering both food sources to meet the dietary needs. Our Bait Plate Stations will hold both gel and granular baits.
