    Q
How much Barricade 65 WDG should I mix per gallon of water?
    A

The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Barricade 65 WDG is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You will need to use 0.185-0.55 oz per 1,000 sq ft . To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area, and that is the amount you will want to mix 0.185-.55 oz of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated. You will need to make sure treated areas are irrigated with at least 1/2 inch of water (either by rainfall or by sprinkler) following the application.

    Q
I have 1.5 acres, how much Barricade will I need? How soon do you need it to rain after applying?
I will be using a 15 gallon sprayer to apply
    A
You must read the product label to determine how much you need as the rate per acre depends on what you are treating, what type of grass that you have, and what area of the country you are in.  Typically you apply between 1 and 1.5 lbs of product per acre.  The product needs rain to activate and to get deep into the root system where upcoming weeds are trying to germinate.  You should either water the product in or apply when it will rain in a few days.  The product must have water within 14 days of application, otherwise you will not get very good results.

    Q
Can I tank mix Barricade and 2-4-D?
    A

Barricade can be mixed with any 2, 4-D product so long as a surfactant is used in the mix. You will want to thoroughly mix the Barricade in the tank first and then add the surfactant and 2, 4-D.

    Q
What if my dog eats the grass after being treated with Barricade?
My dogs always eat the long grasses at the fenceline. A few days after Barricade treatment, my dog started to to show signs of hind leg muscle weakness. I have ruled out other possible causes.
    A
The Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide is safe for pets once it is dry. If you suspect that the Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide has had an effect on your dog then we would recommend that you contact your Veterinarian's office and provide them with the Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide MSDS so that they can make a proper diagnosis and provide the appropriate treatment..

    Q
August in Pennsylvania. Is it too late to apply this product?
I planted a new lawn in an area disturbed by construction equipment this spring. It came in nicely but is now being overrun by grassy weeds. It is August in southern Pennsylvania. Is it too late to apply this product or do you recommend something else?
    A
Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide is a pre-emergent. Once it is too warm, it is usually to late to apply it. However, you can use a post-emergent. Pre-emergents such as Barricade 65 WDG can be used in the late fall to prevent futher growth of weeds for the upcoming spring. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
How many gallons of water do I need to use to spray per 1000 sq ft when I am using Barricade ?
    A
You should mix the required amount of Barricade (0.185-0.55 oz per 1,000 sq ft) in to at least .5 gal of water. In this case, the water only acts like a carrier so the actual amount of water you use to apply the product does not matter very much and you could use .5 to 2 or 3 gallons and you will have pretty much the same result. After Barricade has been applied, it must be watered in with at least 1/2 inch of water (rain or irrigation is fine).

    Q
Can I apply Barricade when preparing soil for sod - Tall Fescue and/or Bermuda?
I would like to till and incorporate Barricade into the soil, along with lime and fertilizer, when preparing my soil to lay sod (I will have Tall Fescue in front yard and Bermuda in back yard). Can this be done, or will the Barricade harm root establishment of the new sod?
    A
You CANNOT use barricade in the soil before sodding.  Doing this will impede root growth and kill your sod.  You should not apply any pre-emergent or selective weed killer for at least 2 to 3 months after your sod is layed and established.  Unfortunately there is no pre-emergent that would be acceptable to apply before you lay down sod on residential land.

    Q
What is a good pre-emergent for weed control in hybrid bermuda grass? I have nut grass and splurge in it
    Also poua grass
    A
We are not sure what part of the country you are in, but most of the country is past the time to apply pre-emergents.  You should apply two applications of Barricade around Feb. 15th and then again around May 15th to prevent these grasses from coming up.  As for treating existing weeds in your grass, you should use Sedgehammer for the nut grass and End Run for the splurge and other broad leaf weeds you may have.  The poua grass will typically burn out here on its own very shortly since it is an annual grass.

    Q
Can I mix Barricade and RoundUp in the same mixing tank for spraying?
    A
RoundUp is a non-selective herbicide and Barricade is a pre-emergent herbicide. You can apply RoundUp first and wait a couple of weeks prior to applying Barricade this will depend on what you are treating and the area of application. Please refer to the product labels for specific application instructions.

Is Barricade 65 WDG safe for children and pets?
    A
Yes, Children are safe to be around the treated area of Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide, after the area has completely dried.  Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide works best when activated by watering in, there the granules will not be up on the surface.

  • Asked by John from Canton, Ohio

    Q
How to remove Barricade 65 WDG or render it ineffective
Well, the grass people came by today and applied barricade as part of their "spring" treatment. Unfortunately, they spray all lawn areas, including the bare spots that need reseeded. How much water should I use on the bare spots to dilute the barricade so that I can reseed over the next few weeks. Reseeding cannot wait the 6-8 weeks recommended.
    A
Since Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide is a pre emergent, applying more water will actually help further push the active ingredient into the root system. We can only recommend reseeding 8 weeks after application, if not longer. Please contact the manufacturer Syngenta at 866-796-4368 for help trouble shooting.

    Q
Your Barricade label says to be used to kill weeds in established turfgrasses,
What about application to Bermuda grass that is still dormant after the winter? Rosemary
    A
Barricade is a pre-emergence herbicide that controls susceptible weeds by preventing growth and development of newly germinated weeds.  It does not kill actively growing weeds.  It can be safely applied to dormant or non dormant Bermudagrass.  Application timing will vary by region and the best person to ask about application timing is your local master gardener who works at your local cooperative extension office

  • Asked by Hal from Monroe, Ga. 30656
    11/08/2012
    Q
can I spray barricade over my daylily garden and not do them harm?
I will use a tractor 3 point hitch 50 gallon sprayer --- what amount of Barricade? The garden is approximately 1200 square feet in size. Can I also spray this over my 1/2 acre vegetable garden?
    A
Barricade is labeled to be used around Day-lilies but you cannot use it around edible vegetation. The amount of Barricade per 1,000 sq ft of area that needs to be treated will vary from 0.37-0.83 oz./1,000 sq ft (1-2.25 TBSP/1,000 sq ft) depending on the weeds you are trying to control. You can apply the specified amount of product in whatever amount of water you need to use to insure the product is distributed over the 1,000 sq ft area. Please read the Barricade product label for complete usage instructions.

    Q
Can this be used with a gilmore dial sprayer model 362 and if so what setting shall i use
    A
We do not recommend applying herbicides using hose end sprayers. The problem with using the hose end sprayer for the Barricade 65 WDG Herbicide application is that they are not very accurate and you can wind up dispensing more/less product than needed in a given area which can lead to less than desirable results.
