    Q
Can I use Bifen XTS on azaleas for aphids and lace bugs?
    A

Bifen XTS should not be applied at this time of year directly to azaleas for aphid and lace bug control. It is an oil based product that could damage the plants if not applied in cooler temperatures. We would recommend that you use a water base product that will be gentle on these plants and apply in the evening or early in the morning such as Bifen IT.  Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate should be applied as a drench around the base of the shrubs/bushes in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area is best for lacebugs and aphids.

    Q
Should Bifen XTS be watered in after spraying my yard for ants?
I use a concentration of 8 oz. to 15 gals of water.
    A

Bifen XTS does not need to be watered in when treating a lawn for ants. The correct rate for treating ants in the lawn as directed on the label is 0.07 to 0.15 fl oz per 1000 sqft in 2 to 10 gallons of water.

    Q
What is the best way to apply Bifen XTS for chinch bugs?
    A

According to the manufacturer, for chinch bugs, you will use 1/6-1/3 oz. of Bifen XTS per gallon of water.  To maximize efficacy against subsurface pests, apply with a non-ionic surfactant and irrigate treated areas with 0.25-0.5 inches of water immediately following application, taking special care to prevent run-off or puddling.

    Q
Can Bifen XTS control scale on houseplants?
    A

Bifen XTS is not labeled for use on houseplants.  A better option would be the water based Bifen IT, though it would be recommended to move plants outside to apply, and then once dry, they can be returned inside.

    Q
I want to spray Bifen XTS in crawlspace wood and blocks. Will this help control or kill any active termites?
    A

Bifen XTS will kill termites that come in contact with it, and a termite treatment with Bifen XTS will last for 3-5 years. For the best complete prevention and treatment, we recommend that you use Taurus SC.  Please visit our Barrier Treatment page for proper application. Once in the ground, Taurus SC will last for up to 10 years. For either termiticide, you will use 4 gallons of finished solution for every 10 linear feet around the structure you are treating. You can treat any time of year as long as the ground is not frozen, air temperatures are not below freezing, and there is no current precipitation.

  • Asked by John from Miami, Fl

    Q
What is correct Bifen XTS amount + water to add to Chapin metered hose end sprayer Mosquito control in S. FL?
The small amounts of XTS needed won't always reach the suction tube as I am moving around the yard, so I want to dilute it with water in the jar and increase the amount/gal dispensed. Can you confirm my math please. Nasty mosquitos in South Florida. Also conflicting answers to questions, is Bifen XTS a repellent or not?
    A

When using Bifen XTS, you will have to mix 1.6 fl. oz. in at least 5 gallons of water. When using a hose end sprayer, be careful to use the correct amount of water for the dilution rates.

The most important thing to remember when treating for mosquitoes is that they hang out on the underside of leaves and shrubs.  You should treat all shrubs, bushes and trees, remembering to not only treat the main bush or shrub but also the underside of the leaves.  Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, so if there are any areas of standing water where you are treating, those should be treated as well with BTI Mosquito Dunks or Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide

You may also want to look over our Mosquito Control Article if you have a moment.

Oil-based products such as Bifen XTS can stain some surfaces.  This is not usually a concern in most areas outside, but you should use caution when treating around the siding of a home.  Most oil-based products such as Bifen XTS do have a "chemical" odor but it is not especially strong.

Bifen XTS is not a true repellent that keep mosquitos away, but it will kill those mosquitos that come into contact with a treated surface long enough to receive a lethal dose.

    Q
Can I use Bifen XTS under my house for termite control?
    A

Bifen XTS used to be one of the better products for termite prevention but since the non repellents like Termidor came out it is not the recommendation.  Bifen XTS only kills those that contact a treated area and can last only 5-7 years in the soil.  Termidor will last for 10 years or more and will have a transfer effect so you can get more complete control of the colony below ground from those that pick it up.

  • Asked by Barbara from Sebastian, Fl
    09/29/2019
    Q
How much Bifen XTS do I use for whiteflies?
I purchased the auto mix sprayer how much do I need for white flies? How will I know when it is no longer in the sprayer? What setting should I use?
    A

To treat ornamental plants for whiteflies, you can use 0.26 – 1.28 oz of Bifen XTS per 10 gallons of water, per the product label. The rate at which you set your hose-end sprayer will depend on what settings are available, although this is a pretty low rate per gallon of water with the highest rate being 0.128 oz per 1 gallon of water. 1 gallon of water usually treats about 1000 sq ft of turfgrass, so it will likely treat less area if you are treating dense ornamental growth. Be sure you are treating all the leaf surfaces until they are wet but not to the point of runoff.

    Q
Can Bifen XTS be used to spray the exterior perimeter foundation for Springtails? Is this a better product than Bifen IT and Bifen Granules?
I do understand the importance of cleaning debris piles and controlling moisture.
    A

The Bifen XTS, Bifen I/T, and Bifen LP Granules are all great choices for outdoor treatments of springtails. They are typically the most common to be used and show great results on the populations. Occasionally customers will use a product like Tempo SC Ultra to try and drench soil sections where they suspect springtail nests to be located in the yard or around concrete areas such as patios/walkways/driveway, etc. Tempo has a slightly faster knock back of insects with the ingredient it contains, but the overall residual control would be the same as what you are familiar with using. Continue to try and reduce moisture as much as possible and pick up debris that they could nest within or under.
