    What can I use to kill beetles in a finished piece of furniture?
    finished sideboard has two tiny holes with shavings, what can i use to treat/kill beetle?

    What you are describing does sound like powder post beetles. You can get rid of them by using a product such as Boracare but this will require you to strip the piece of furniture to get rid of any paint, stain or finish (Boracare will not work on finished wood). Boracare is the only insecticide that can penetrate into the wood to kill the immature beetles before they chew their way out of the wood and damage the furniture. If it is just one piece of furniture that is infested and you do not want to strip off the finish you can also contact local furniture finishers or pest control operators who may offer a heat chamber. Heating the sideboard up to over 140 degrees for several hours will any pest that is inside.

    When applying bora-care in drilled holes behind drywall is it best to spray or foam?
    A
    Foaming is the preferred method when treating voids. To foam a product you need a poly foamer to apply the foam and our ProFoam Foaming Concentrate which is an expanding liquid you need to mix with the solution.  You would mix the Bora-Care with water in a one gallon poly foamer, then pour in the foaming agent, then mix it all together and pump up the poly foamer.  You are now ready to foam voids.

    What diameter of holes do I drill in every 6 inches to inject boracare? And Boracare will be mixed with water?
    A

    You should drill whatever size hole you need based on what you have available to inject the Bora-care with.  Typically if you have an injection piece of equipment, 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch holes are used.  Please see this technical bulletin from the manufacturers of Bora-Care that explains about drilling and injecting into wood.  See page 5 and it will give specifics about the drill pattern, etc.

    How much Bora Care with Mold Care would I need to purchase to cover 1,600 sq. ft. of crawl?

    One gallon of Bora-Care with Mold--Care should be mixed with 5 gallons of water which will treat (ballpark) about 1200 square feet of surface wood. So you will probably need 2 gallons of the concentrate.

    Can I use Boracare to treat powder post beetles in a 3 year old pressure treated fence?
    Since the bugs are drilling does this mean the pressure treatment has worn off and I can use Boracare? It is not stained or painted.

    Yes, you can apply Bora-Care to pressure treated wood as long as there is not any kind of paint, stain, or water sealant already on the wood. Be sure you apply Boracare at a 1:1 diluation ratio with water for active insect infestations. You should then apply a water sealant to the wood after the Boracare has dried for best results.

    If I use Bora-Care for PPB in a unfinished shop what safety precautions should I use? Will it damage concrete?
    A

    Bora-Care is a very safe product and it is considered a green product as well.  Typically, it takes about an hour for the surface of the wood to dry.  After the application has dried completely, it should be perfectly fine for children and pets to re-enter the house.  Bora-Care is a wood treatment product only and should have no effect on concrete.  If you are looking for peace-of-mind and protection when applying professional pest control products, then the Basic Safety Kit is for you

    can i spray boracae on top of timbor?
    I want to use Timbor for termites, then spray Boracare with mold block on top .Which should I spray first? Will spraying Boracare on top of Timbor make the Timbor penetrate deeper, or stop the Boracare from penetrating? Will spraying Timbor on top of Boracare stop the mold block from working?

    In most cases you can completely skip using the Timbor and just use the Boracare with Moldcare. Do you have current termite activity?

    I have powder post beetles on loose wood (sticked up in the woods). Do I need to treat both sides of the wood
    d or just the side with the holes ?

    We do recommend that you treat both sides of the lumber with the Bora-Care and that you leave it unstacked for at least 72 hours to allow it to dry for best results.

    What is the best product for new wood to protect from termites?
    Recommendation for treating new wood studs in remodel - framing is up and would like to protect new studs from termites.

    Boracare is the best wood treatment product on the market. It can be used at a 5:1 ratio for preventative treatment and will last for the life of the wood.

    Can Boracare be used to pre-treat the foundation of new construction & at what concentration?
    This would be done before any wood framing.

    Boracare would work great as a pre treatment for wood you are using. To pre treat the soil you are laying the foundation on, we recommend using Termidor SC. You want to dilute .8 fl oz Termidor per gallon water. Apply one gallon diluted solution per 10 sq feet.

    Can BORACARE be used full strength to penetrate better or is dilution required?
    A

    Boracare does need to be diluted depending on what you are intending to use the product for. For an active infestation of a wood destroying insect, you will use 1 gallon of hot water with 1 gallon of Boracare. The percentage of active ingredient is 23% in that dilution.

    2:1 parts water to Boracare – 16% - foaming or misting application for termites or carpenter ants; hardwood floors for some wood-infesting beetles

    3:1 parts water to Boracare – 13% - remedial control of Fungi and Algae on wood less than 4 inches thick

    5:1 parts water to Boracare – 9% - most preventative or pre-construction treatments.

    Will Boracare cause mold?
    Should I get boracare with boracare mold control?

    Boracare will not cause mold and the Boracare with Mold Care is only needed if you are trying to treat for mold that is currently there or to help prevent it in an area like a crawl space that has a moisture problem.

    How do I exterminate powder post beetles?
    I am remodeling a bathroom, and I found powder post beetle residue behind shower stall.
    A
    For powder post beetles, we would recommend using Boracare. The wood you are applying this product to must be untreated, meaning no sealants. You will use 1 gallon of Boracare with 1 gallon of hot water. You can either spray the wood or paint it on. Once the product is dry, you can apply any type of sealants to the wood.

    If a house is showing termite infestation, will Boracare rid my house of termites?
    termites activity has been seen in the house. This is a different house of which my first question was pertaining to.

    Boracare will treat for drywood termites. First, we want to make sure these are drywood termites. Most folks will have a PCO come out and make an ID no charge. Once this termite species has been identified we can make the best recommendation for you.

    Will Bora-Care work on Ipe wood?
    My new Ipe deck has some kind of wood borer. The top is finished with Ipe Oil. The bottom is unfinished. I could spray the underside. The boards are only 3/4" thick, but Ipe is very dense. Do you know of anyone that has tried it on hardwood?

    Bora-Care should be applied only on raw, natural wood with no finishes (stain, paint, sealant, varnish, etc). Bora-Care cannot penetrate into sealed or finished wood. After wood has been treated with Bora-Care, you can paint, stain or seal the wood with no problems. We recommend waiting at least 3 days before sealing (but not longer than 6 weeks). Outdoor wood should be sealed after application of the product.

    I have cleaned fir siding down to bare wood surface. I am now planning on applying TWP 1500 series stain.

    Yes, you may stain wood that has been treated with BoraCare. You should allow areas treated with BoraCare to dry for 24-48 hours before touching or painting them.

    Powder Post Beetle Active Infestation
    I'm reasonable sure that the infestation is powder post beetles and have sent two beetles to an entomologist for identification. In the mean time, what should I do to control them? I have suspend, bifen and taurus on hand. Could I inject any of these into the holes, let it dry, plug the holes, and then apply a light localized spray? I bought and installed the #2 grade 3/4 unfinished walnut plank (or strip) flooring from a salvage store about three years ago. The flooring was labeled and I was able to identify the NW Pacific manufacturer, which has since gone out of business. My house is on a slab, but has 2x10 floor joists. The subfloor is 3/4 plywood. Roof tar paper was used between the subfloor and the hardwood. The floor was sanded, stained, and top coated with 3 layers. The infestation is limited to lighter colored boards (sapwood?) and maybe a few exit holes in the darker (heartwood?) boards.There is currently fras around exit holes in three boards, and 2 to 3 fras covered holes each day. I might have seen fras the previous spring, but didn't think anything about it because I was installing tile during that time. One board has a few dozen exit holes, while the other boards have only a handful.
    A
    Boracare is the best treatment option for any type of wood destroying insect including powder post beetles. However, no matter how new or old the wood is Boracare can only be used on wood in its raw natural state. If the wood has any type of stain or finish on them you would need to either sand it off and apply Boracare and re-stain it, or drill holes periodically through the areas where you have activity and inject Boracare into the center of the wood.     Does Boracare work on different species of wood boring beetles?
    Does Boracare work on all of the following wood boring beetle species, old world lyctus beetle southern lyctus beetle western lyctus beetle Pacific deathwatch beetle black Polycaon leadcable borer. Also, does the product need to be applied to the area of infestation only, or does one need to apply to surrounding areas to stop any spreading?

    Boracare is labeled for the follwoing types of beetles, Old House Borers, Longhorn Beetles and Ambrosia Beetles, Anobiid and Lyctid Powderpost Beetles.  It is best to apply to the entire piece of wood and surrounding raw wood to treat current infestations and protect from future infestations.

    What can I use for termites in an attic?
    Is there a product that can be fogged or misted into an attic area that would be effective on 'coating' the wood rafters to kill termites that come in contact with the product. I ask this because the attic area is pretty much inaccessible. thx.

    We do not recommend to fog for termites in an attic. It will not penetrate the raw wood. In this case we recommend to treat using Boracare. Boracare will penetrate up to 4 inches into the wood and will last the lifetime of the wood. You can paint it, spray it, or foam it onto the raw wood.
