    Q
Will Bora Care or Tim-Bor decrease the excellent paint adhesion of clear yellow line siding?
What type of paint primer would you recommend over Boracare or Timbor?
    A

Once Bora-Care has dried completely on the raw, unfinished wood, you can seal, stain or paint with whatever product you would like.  There are no restrictions on what you can use once the product is dry.

    Q

    Q
Can Bora-care be used on the soil around the house?
    A

Bora-Care cannot be applied to the soil, only to raw wood. If you are trying to treat for subterranean termites around the perimeter of your home you can use Taurus SC in the soil. Please take a few moments to view our Subterranean Termite Treatment Guide for more information on the treatment method.

  • Asked by Theresa from Houston, Texas
    03/06/2021
    Q
How to kill drywoods in trees near home with Bora-Care?
How to kill drywood nests in trees near my home that send mating couples into my house each year?
    A

Bora-Care  is only for use on cut timber not currently still growing.

Termites do not attack live, healthy trees. If the tree has been damaged by termites it would be advisable to remove the tree.  They are natures recyclers so they go after dead/decaying wood more with high moisture content as well.   Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home.  Please take a moment to read over our article on "How to do a Termite Treatment" for complete details.  In most cases, termites out in the yard are completely normal and can be left alone.  However if in non fruit bearing trees and you can locate and directly spot treat the nest in the tree you can use something like Termidor SC after drilling into the gallery to be sure you are making contact where they are actively are.

    Q
Can I use Bora-Care on a concrete slab to spray before I put down a wood floor?
    A

Boracare can be applied to concrete, however, it would be best to treat the wood itself before it is stained or finished. Treating the slab only would not offer the same protection.

  • Asked by John
    06/01/2021
    Q
Once the Bora-Care has dried, is it safe to cut the treated lumber without a mask? Is the sawdust toxic?
    A

Sawdust from Boracare treated wood would be no more toxic that untreated wood, though you should avoid breathing in either.  You should cut the wood to the final size before treating with Boracare. You do not want to waste the product on wood that will not be used and as Boracare can take up to 30 days to completely penetrate.

  • Asked by Andrew from Thousand Oaks, Ca
    06/02/2021
    Q
Can I use Bora-Care on an oak floor that has already been varnished?
Powder post beetles are popping up
    A

Boracare is only able to penetrate into raw, untreated, unstained or painted wood therefore it would not penetrate into plywood with varnish on it.  You will need to sand down to the raw wood or pull up the flooring to expose the unvarnished underside and treat that.

    Q
Can I apply Bora-Care in the sun or is sundown better?
Best time to apply it to redwood deck? In full sun or better not sunny?
    A

Wood just needs to be dry before applying Bora-Care. There is no specifics on the time of day it should be applied. As long as you are not expecting rain in the next 48 hours.  It can take up to 48 hours for it to dry after application.  It should dry clear when mixed as directed and would not affect stain once dry.

  • Asked by Joe from Henderson, Tx

    Q
Do I need to treat the entire plywood subfloor with Bora-Care or just the perimeter only?
Newly built Peer & Beam home, non-conditioned crawl space, plywood flooring with closed cell foam under floor. Do I treat entire plywood subfloor or perimeter only?
    A

If you are using Bora-Care as a preventive you will treat any raw untreated wood that you believe may be vulnerable to termite damage. If you are treating an active infestation you will need to apply it to all raw untreated wood where you have termite activity. Typically a full sub floor treatment would not be necessary for a house on a crawl space but we also recommend having some other termite prevention in place like termite bait stations or a termite trench treatment

    Q
My oak tree was hit by lightning spring 2022 and has boring insects. Can Bora-Care be used to on the oak tree to treat for boring insects?
    A

Bora-Care is not applied to live trees. You may want to check with your local extension office. Once a tree is already infested, the goal turns to protecting the surrounding trees for most borers.

    Q
How long do I wait to paint a covered RV parking area?
I treated an outdoor RV parking area with a 1-1 mix of Bora-Care for beetles on 9/30/2022. Does it require paining after treatment? I read it needs 3 days to paint over. Running out of good weather. It is a dry area, and never gets wet just air moisture. Can I wait till next year? Like June 2023? 9 months?
    A

If the covered parking area is constructed of wood, it needs to be painted or sealed within 6 weeks after a treatment of Bora-Care. Per the product label, it is important to allow the treated wood to completely dry at least 48 hours before applying any protective topcoat.

    Q
I was told locally that Bora-Care is for moisture control, is this correct?
I can't find any postings saying it was use to remedy excess moisture when coupled with vapor barrier. I don't have termites.
    A

Bora-Care does not remove moisture. It is labeled to treat raw wood for the following: Wood Destroying Fungus, Termite Control and wood-destroying insects such as termites, carpenter ants, powderpost beetles, etc.

    Q
Why isn't Bora-Care available in smaller quantities?
I only need to treat one small piece of antique wood.
    A

We apologize Bora-Care is not sold in smaller sizes. If you are looking for something smaller, we would suggest looking into Jecta. It is typically used to reach places where Bora-Care cannot be applied effectively and may be a better fit.
