    Q
Does Certainty Herbicide only suppress dallisgrass in a Bermuda lawn, or will it kill it?
    A

Certainty Herbicide is only labeled for suppresion of dallisgrass in a Bermuda lawn per the product label. Please also be mindful that per that label the following application includes the use of MSMA, MSMA can cause injury to common and hybrid bermudagrass as well. It is recommended to test the following tank-mix recommendation on a small area prior to wide-scale use to determine if this application is suitable for your bermudagrass management objectives.

This is directly from the Certainty product label:

For suppresion of dallisgrass in bermudagrass turf, apply this product, when dallisgrass is actively growing, at a rate of 1.25 ounces per acre in a tank mixture with 2 pounds of MSMA per acre and 0.25 percent of volume nonionic surfactant (1 quart per 100 gallons of spray solution). Reapply this same tank mixture 2 to 4 weeks after initial application.

    Q
Can Fusilade II be used to effectively eliminate Quackgrass from a Kentucky Bluegrass lawn?
    A

Fusilade Herbicide would not be recommended for KY Bluegrass. Quackgrass, unfortunately, is too closely related to Kentucky Bluegrass and most products that will kill quackgrass will also severely damage, if not kill, the KBG. The common recommendation is to kill the quackgrass with a glyphosate product like Roundup and then reseed with KBG. You might also check with a master gardener or local landscaping company in your area for their best recommendation.

    Q
Will Certainty kill Poa Trivialis present on my primarily Bluegrass lawn?
Without killing the grass. If not any suggestions
    A

Certainty Herbicide - 1.25 oz. cannot be used in cool season grasses and will harm them.  We are not aware of any product labeled to control poa trivialis in a bluegrass lawn.  In your case it would be best to spot treat the poa with a glyphosate based product such as GlyPhoSel Pro and reseed the area.

  • Asked by Stephen from Evergreen, Al
    06/24/2018
    Q
Can I use Certainty Herbicide to control crabgrass and bahia and then overseed soon after?
Want to overseed in 2 weeks any help? Have 2 yr old lawn carpetgrass & centipede target turf.
    A

The only product you can use for post-emergent control that would allow you to reseed that quickly would be a non-selective herbicide such as RoundUp QuikPro. Certainty Herbicide is safe for use on centipede and bahia grass and it does not control crabgrass, so it would not be appropriate for your application needs. Unfortunately, we do not have any selective post-emergent herbicides which are safe for both carpetgrass and centipede while killing crabgrass and bahia grass. We also generally do not recommend overseeding in the middle of summer when temperatures are very hot since these conditions make it difficult for new turf to establish.

    Q
Will Certainty kill plantain in my bed of sunflower like daisies without killing them?
    A

Certainty is only labeled to be used in woody ornamental plantings and perennial groundcovers.  It may harm flowers if they are sprayed or drift contacts them.  Care should be taken to avoid this and only use as a spot spray directly to the nutsedge in this area.  It is not labeled to treat plantain.

  • Asked by Josh from Easton, Ct

    Q
Does Certainty Herbicide - 1.25 oz. absolutely kill Tall Fescue?
Does certainty completely kill tall fescue, or only harm it? I'm looking to kill poa triv out of my fescue cool season lawn in a few spots. I'm thinking that if it only harms the tall fescue but kills that poa triv that would be great. Or, for a cool season lawn, is certainty essentially the same as glyphosate as it will kill all fescue, rye and blue grass?
    A

For the poa trivialis there is not a good method to get rid of this weed other than to spot treat with a non selective product like Rounup QuikPRO and over seed in those areas, or you can use a pre-emergent like Prodiamine 65 WDG in the fall to prevent the poa from growing in the first place.  Certainty Herbicide is a selective herbicide with the active ingredient of Sulfosulfuron, which is not the same as a non selecetive Glyphosate product.

    Q
Can Certainty Herbicide be used on a predominately Kentucky blue grass/perennial rye lawn?
    A

Certainty Herbicide is not labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass nor other cool season turfs such as perennial rye. We do carry several herbicides such as SpeedZone Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate and Tenacity Herbicide which are labeled for for safe use. We strongly recommend that you read over the product label of the product you choose (product label link will be under the picture of the product on each individual product page) to make sure you can use the product on Kentucky Bluegrass and to make sure the weeds you are trying to eliminate are listed. You can search Kentucky Bluegrass on our online store to see other products that may meet your needs.

    Q
Need to control weeds in my Floratam lawn. Nutsedge, Virginia buttonweed, and crabgrass are the worst. Can I use Certainty?
    A

Certainty Herbicide would not control crabgrass.  Blindside would be a better option for the listed weeds and is safe on Floratam.  Image Kills Nutsedge is another option for smaller lawns.

    Q
Is Certainty Herbicide - 1.25 oz. a good product to kill poa annua in TTTF?
Or is there so such thing available?
    A

While, Certainty Herbicide is labeled to treat Poa Annua, it will also kill your Fescue lawn.  There are few products that we are aware of that will kill the poa annua without also harming the fescue. The only ones we are currently aware of are called Prograss or Xonerate which are both very expensive. Your other options would be to either spot-treat with a Roundup-type product and then reseed with the fescue in those areas, or you can use a preemergent such as Pendulum in the fall to prevent the poa from growing in the first place

    Q
Is Certainty Herbicide - 1.25 oz. labeled to be used on Turf Type Tall Fescue to treat for quackgrass?
    A

Certainty is labeled to control quackgrass and but is not labeled for your tall fescue. Unfortunately, there is not a product that will kill quackgrass without also killing the tall fescue. The best treatment is spot treating with a glyphosate product like Roundup QuickPro and then reseeding after 2 weeks.
