    Q
Do I pinch lantana that is too tall before spraying with Monterey Florel Brand Growth Regulator?
    A

Monterey Florel Brand Growth Regulator can be used on lantana. Per the product label: A foliar spray with Florel in conjunction with hand pinching will increase the number of lateral branches on many ornamental species. In many species, this product can replace hand pinching. Plants being treated with this product will not initiate or develop flowers. Florel inhibits internode elongation which maintains plants in a compact form.

This article suggests that pinching is required on lantanas. This article from UFL on size control also has details about using PGRs on lantanas.

  • Asked by Joan from Manchester, Ct
    05/15/2019
    Q
Will Florel work on Mulberry trees?
Will I have to reapply every year? What effect will Florel have on hostas, irises, lilies, growing under the mulberry?
    A

Monterey Florel can be used on any plants that flower, including ornamental mulberry trees, to prevent fruit development. That being said, it would be best to cover nearby desirable flowers in the area when spraying so that you do not suppress desirable flowering plants. Since this product is absorbed during bloom, it should not affect grass and other plants that are not in bloom at the time of treatment. You do need to reapply Florel each time the target plants flower to prevent the next fruit set.

    Q
If trees sprayed and still get fruit can you eat it
Sprayed trees but it rained a few days later and keep raining for serveral days. Now have crabapples on the trees, is it safe to eat them
    A
Since Monterey Florel Brand Growth Regulator is not labeled for use on any edible plants, only ornamental versions of crabapple, we would not recommend consuming the fruit from the tree after an application has been made.

  • Asked by Juan from Madera California
    03/15/2024
    Q
Dad sprayed florel regulator all over the roots of an olive tree. Will that harm the tree??
    A

The Monterey Florel Growth Regulator is not a systemic product and will not be pulled through the tree. In fact, it  and most other plant growth regulators on the market must be applied as a foliar spray to work. The chemicals need to be directly applied to the leaf tissue to work and will not be pulled through the root to impact the plant.   We would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer though to confirm if there will be any issue.Email:  [email protected]

  • Asked by Judith from Green Valley, Az.
    09/01/2021
    Q
Can a 2nd application of Monterey Florel Brand Growth Regulator be used on Live Oaks after acorns start to come out? First application was the first and second weeks in April. We have a problem with Javelinas in our area and want to discourage them from our property.
    A

Applications of Monterey Florel Brand Growth Regulator should be made at the mid to full bloom stage, prior to fruit set. Apply no more than 6 spray applications per year at 3 to 10 day intervals beginning at first true leaf stage.

If acorns have begun to produce, the applicaiton will be less effective. Per the product label, sprays applied too early or too late will be less effective and result in incomplete fruit elimination.

  • Asked by Rhonda from Amarillo Texas

    Q
Can Florel be used to stop a pecan tree from producing nuts?
    A

Monterey Florel Brand Growth Regulator is only designed for applications to ornamental tree species and not any edible plants. The manufacturer has not tested or provided instructions for use on that plant so we are unsure if it would work or be safe. We would recommend contacting a local Farmers Co-op or your states Department of Agriculture for pecan tree help if there are options to help stop the fruiting.
