Product Overview

Pro-Mate Weed & Feed is a professional Trimec brand herbicide containing fertilizer, 2,4-D, mecoprop, and dicamba. This granular weed and feed provides plant nutrients and controls a broad spectrum of broad-leaf weeds in turfgrass. Supplemental nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash should be applied according to soil tests or State Extension Service recommendations.

Pro-Mate Weed & Feed is intended to be applied by noncommercial users, lawn care operators, and landscape personnel. Cool-season and warm-season grasses established in institutional, ornamental, and residential sites may be treated.

Institutional sites are defined as turf areas around properties or facilities providing a service to public or private organizations; for ,example, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, museums, libraries, sport facilities (including golf courses) and office buildings may be treated. Ornamental sites include turfgrass established around residences, parks, streets, retail outlets, cemeteries, and institutional buildings.

For best results apply this product in the morning when grass is dewey so the granule will release the Trimec when the weed is wet.

Details

Pro-Mate Weed & Feed may be applied to newly seeded cool-season turfgrass. Applications are recommended only after the third mowing or after the grass seedlings have tillered and have developed an adequate secondary root system.

Pro-Mate Weed & Feed may be applied to newly established warm-season turfgrass. Treatments should be delayed until 3 to 4 weeks after the sodding, sprigging, or plugging operations, and low application rates (1/2 of the recommendation for established turf-grass) are suggested.

A uniform broadcast distribution of Pro-Mate on the treated area is essential. Do not exceed the specified application rate for any area and use care in the application of Pro-Mate within the dripline of trees, shrubs, and other ornamentals.

Do not use Pro-Mate 22-2-4 on dichondra, carpetgrass, St. Augustinegrass, closely-mowed Bentgrass Putting Greens, or turf containing desirable clovers.

Meh, better than the big home stores stuff

    By Pat on 06/12/2014

    Verified Purchase

First, I wanted something that you can't buy at the big home stores, and this was ok to use on Bahia grass. I made some phone calls asked questions and was told I should be ok to use. These guys did not recommend it. So it did not burn my grass like scotts does. Weed control/ kill was ok, not a total kill on clovers like I was going for, but best I've used yet and I've ran down the small list of stuff you can use on Bahia. I'm buying more today for round 2.

Sort Questions
Q
What type of grass can this product be used on and when?
A
Pro-Mate 22-2-4 can be used on most types of warm and cool season grasses. Do not use this product on dichondra, carpetgrass, St. Augustinegrass, closely-mowed bentgrass putting greens, or turf containing desirable clovers. Spring and fall applications are recommended for the best control. However, Pro-Mate 22-2-4 can be applied any time broad leaf weeds are present and actively growing. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff as they can provide you with the best product application time in your region.  Please take a few minutes to read over the Pro-Mate 22-2-4 product label for more information.

Q
Broadcast Spreader

Which setting should I use on my Scott's Broadcast Spreader to apply the Pro-Mate?

A

Pro-Mate 22-2-4 Fertilizer with Trimec Post-Emegent - 50 lb. bag requires that you use 3.2-5 lbs. per 1000 square feet.

If your spreader settings go from 1 to 10 (1 letting out the least and 10 letting out the most) you typically want to be around a 3 setting.  If your spreader goes from 1 to 20, you should probably be around a 6 or 7 setting.  The goal is to just run out of product when you are done walking the 1000 square feet.  One person may walk faster than someone else, so they may place It on a higher setting than someone that walks slower.

Almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 4 ounces of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the extinguish in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet.

Q
Is the ProMate 22-2-4 Fertilizer with Trimec safe for St Augustine grass?
A
Unfortunately, the Pro-Mate 22-2-4 Fertilizer with Trimec Post-Emergent is not labeled for St. Augustine grass. However, we do have the Ferti-Lome Weed-Out Plus Lawn Fertilizer 25-0-4 which is safe for St. Augustine (do not apply to Floratam or improved varieties of St. Augustine) and has very similar nutrient amounts as the Pro-Mate 22-2-4 Fertilizer with Trimec Post-Emergent.

Q
Can you use Pro-Mate 22-2-4 Fertilizer with Trimec Post-Emergent in Bahia grass?
A
We cannot recommend Pro-Mate 22-2-4 Fertilizer with Trimec Post-Emergent for Bahia grass as it is not labeled for it. Hi Yield Weed and feed contains Trimec and can be applied to Bahia grass.
