    Q
What is the range of the motion sensor and angle of detection on the ScareCrow Sprinkler?
    A

The Scarecrow can detect large animals up to 30 ft away and very small animals up to 10 ft away. The detection range depends on the type of animal detecting. The motion sensor is approximately 105 degrees. We recommend reading over the manual to make sure the Scarecrow will fit you needs:

  • Asked by Kathleen from Katy, Texas

    Q
How do you set up the ScareCrow Sprinkler Motion Activated Animal Deterrent?
    A

Here are the instructions for setting up the ScareCrow sprinkler:

First, turn the sensitivity knob to 4 or 5. Next, wave your hand in front of the sensor lens. You should easily hear the ScareCrow’s internal water valve click open, then click closed 3 seconds later. There is an 8 second reset interval after the valve closes when the sensor does not detect motion.

Assemble stake and attach sprinkler head and stake to housing. Connect hose and position the ScareCrow.

Aim the ScareCrow towards the area you want to protect. Push the spike into the ground by stepping on the footrest. Do not push on the sensor housing or sprinkler head. If the ground is too hard or otherwise unsuitable for the plastic stake, try placing the ScareCrow in a flower pot filled with a weighted material like sand or grave.

Set the sensitivity knob high enough to see to target animal when it is within reach of the 10 meter (35 foot) water spray, but not beyond that point. It is not beneficial to sense animals or moving objects outside the area you wish to protect.

Start outside your desired coverage area and work your way inwards. The ScareCrow’s sprinkler will activate once it detects you. Make minor adjustments until you feel the ScareCrow will only trigger when movement is detected inside the you wish to protect. After the 3 second pulse of water, remain still for approximately 8 seconds after each activation, while the ScareCrow resets itself. Repeat this process until you have a good idea of the ScareCrow’s area of coverage at this setting.

After you have set the ScareCrow’s sensitivity and positioned it securely with its lens aimed at the desired area, use this section to help you adjust the arc and distance of the ScareCrow’s water spray. Make sure the water is turned OFF, then follow the steps below.

Position the stem tabs so the metal wire clip travels between these tabs and faces the area to be sprayed. Stem tabs determine the arc range of the ScareCrow from 0 to 300 degrees. Raise or lower the water deflector dial to control the distance of the water spray.

The ScareCrow should activate. Adjust the arc and distance to suit your needs.

    Q
Is the ScareCrow Sprinkler effective on chipmunks?
I have chipmunks that invade my 8 x 12 garden to eat the ripe tomatoes. I need to repel them.
    A
Yes the Scarcrow Animal Deterrant can be used on smaller animals such as chipmunks and rabbits. However, keep in mind that if they are getting to a food source on your property the repellant may or may not work everytime if getting wet is less important to the chipmunk than getting to the tomato. You may need to use Chipmunk Traps to try and eliminate the population from your yard.

    Q
    Scarecrow
Can you tell me why this unit goes off every few minutes and nothing is in the yard? No cars are going down the street, no birds and no wind. I have changed the battery twice within a few weeks.
    A
We would recommend adjusting the sensitity knob on your ScareCrow Sprinkler. Set the sensitivity knob high enough to see to target animal when it is within reach of the 10 meter (35 foot) water spray, but not beyond that point. It is not beneficial to sense animals or moving objects outside the area you wish to protect. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by Garrett from Gurnee, Il
    07/08/2017
    Q
With a constant water feed, will the Scarecrow damage my hose or plumbing in any way?
I've made the mistake of leaving the hose on after watering with a handle that stops water flow. After several minutes, my hose burst from the mounting pressure.
    A

We have not heard of the ScareCrow Sprinkler Motion Activated Animal Deterrent ruining any good quality hose or plumbing if used as directed. Install a pressure-reducing valve on tap if your water pressure exceeds 80 psi. Opening your tap part way does NOT change the water pressure. Before disconnecting the unit or the hose, always turn water off and activate the unit with your hand to reduce line pressure in the hose.
