  • Asked by Nette from Bflo Ny
    06/20/2016
    Q
Can I still use Sevin Insecticide Granules product and then assume that the rain will do the trick?
    I don't have a garden hose.
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules can be watered in by rain. Please keep in mind that failure to water in the granules can lead to treatment failure because the chemical cannot be released fron the granule and will not be available to the pests. The dry granules usually fall into the thatch layer of the grass, and will largely not be available to pets and people walking over the surface so they should not pose any danger to you or your pets. Everyone should stay off of the grass until the area has had a chance to dry.

  • Asked by Morrye from Red Oak, Nc
    02/26/2017
    Q
How long does Sevin Granules remain in the soil?
We are getting a new puppy in two weeks. Is it safe to use immediately?
    A

Sevin can be applied 4 times per year as needed for the target pest. (For instance you may only need to use it in the Spring/Summer and may apply 4 times during that period vs applying every 3 months). After spreading the granules across your lawn they would need to be watered in to activate the ingredients. Once they have been watered in and the water dries, your pup will be safe to play/chew to its hearts content. Normally a safe time frame to wait after watering is 1-2 hours.

  • Asked by Brian from Bergheim, Tx
    05/29/2017
    Q
Is it safe to allow my animals (horses & chickens) to graze on grass and forage treated with Sevin Granules?
I know to water in and let dry, but should I wait longer before allowing my animals to graze on treated areas? Or, is it safe at all for them? The chickens especially will be eating both grass/forage and bugs. Should I only treat areas that they will not be grazing on?
    A

Per the manufacturer, Sevin Granules are meant for use on residential lawns and not pasture areas. However, since the product is not a systemic, it will not affect your grass. As long as the area is dry, it is safe for animals to be in the area. However, we cannot recommend that animals graze in areas where Sevin Granules were applied.

  • Asked by Valerie from Conway, Ar

    Q
Will Sevin Insecticide Granules be okay if watered several days later?
I just applied the granules to the grassy area where I take my dog outside at my apartment. I didn't realize that it needs to be watered down afterwards, and there are no watering hoses at the apartment, however, it's supposed to rain in a few days. Will the rain in a few days work, or will I need to reapply by then? Also, will it be safe to take my dog outside in the meantime?
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules need to be watered in immediately after application to activate the granules.  While it might be ok for rain a few days later, to get the most effectiveness we would recommend applying right before it rains.  Pets should be kept out of treated areas after watering in until dry.  If there are any dry granules on the ground for the dog to pick up, it would be recommend to keep your dog out of that area until the rain.

    Q
Can I use Sevin Insecticide Granules around lime trees or any other trees?
I found that I have grub worms 3 feet away from my lime tree and they are spreading closer to it. Am I able to use sevin around my tree? How close can I use sevin to the tree?
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules can be used around lime trees, but for grubs, we recommend another product called Milky Spore.  Sevin will not penetrate to the thatch layer to treat the grubs.

  • Asked by Tony from Ocean Isle Beach
    12/21/2017
    Q
Can Seven Insecticide Granules be used to kill earth worms to help eliminate moles?
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules are not labeled to kill earthworms but do work for white grubs, which are another food source of moles. There are no products on the market in the USA that are labeled for earthworms as they are largely beneficial creatures.  There are a few known control methods that include cutting back on irrigation so that the worms will go deeper into the soil for the moisture they require to survive or fertilizing your lawn after a heavy rainfall which will eliminate some of the population.

  • Asked by D. from Bloomington, Mn
    05/21/2018
    Q
Treating ground ant colonies in the yard. I used 1/3 cup of Sevin to sprinkle over a 1-2 ft circle not working ?
I watered the granules in ant colonies still very active making new large hole entrances 5 days later how long do this take to work ?
    A

Per the Sevin Lawn Insecticide Granules: Treat ant mounds by applying ½ cup of this product per mound. Water with sufficient force to break its apex and allow the insecticide to flow into the ant tunnels, but not sufficient to significantly damage the mound that may lead to relocation.  For best results, apply in cool weather (65 to 80?F) or in early morning or late evening hours. Treat new mounds as they appear. This product will provide control of ant mounds within four hours

Treatment should be done as long as you are seeing new activity and may require both mound treatments and broadcasting the product in the yard.
