3 months ago I treated for whitefly on ficus hedges. I have just treated them again but they are infested still
    A
If you are using a systemic product to treat it can take up to 8 weeks for the product to be translocated throughout the plant.  We recommend while that is working and if you have an active infestation that you spray the foiliage with something like Talstar P that will start killing after applied.  It is important to spray the underside of the leaves on infested plants for effective control. Heavily infested leaves should be plucked off the plant and tossed in a bucket of soapy water.

    Q
what is the best product to spray around the house to stop all kind of bugs getting inside?
I bought a house recently and my previous owner has a service with terminix for pests and termites and I also see sentricon systems around my house. He pays 400 $ for termites per year and 50 $ for pests and I have continued the service for few months but I decided to stop it as all they does is spray some liquid around the house. Could you recommend the best spray so that spray it myself I live in MA(02067) and my house is crawlspace house that means no basement.
    A

Talstar P is one of the best general purpose insecticides for indoor and outdoor use. It is labeled for over 75 insects, leaves a 30 day residual outdoors and a 90 day residual indoors.  Mixing at .5- 1.0oz per gallon of water, it is a very easy product to use.

Outdoors, Talstar P can be sprayed as a perimeter treatment (3ft up & 3ft out from foundation), around windows, doors, bushes, plants trees, broadcasted over the entire lawn.

Indoors, Talstar P is to be applied as a crack and crevice treatment along baseboards, windows, doors, behind appliances, under sinks, toilets, around water pipes.

    Q
Need to control a few large american roaches finding their way into the home
I believe our problem started about 3 years ago when I discovered a hole in the lid of my septic tank. The tank had become infested with the large brown (i believe american) roaches. Occasionally we would find one in the house. This year my septic tank was pumped and repaired and I don't see anymore roaches in there. But I believe they may still be in the ground around the septic tank and still finding their way into our house. I can't find how they're getting in, but one thought would be to kill the outside colony. Is this possible? What products should I use? Whenever I spray my normal outside insectiside heavily in the area, it seems better for a little while, but not permanently. I do see several holes in the ground about quarter size that makes me think it could be their ground access.

How to Control American Roaches / Palmetto Bugs

American Roaches come from the outside of the home, so it is best to spray a liquid insecticide around the outside foundation of the home such as Talstar One or Cynoff WP, rather than using roach baits. Also focus on sealing up cracks around doors and in the foundation so roaches can't get in.

    1. Repair damage to screens, door frames, or exterior siding that may provide entry from outside.
    2. Repair any leaks or excess water floor near the structure and ventilate other moist spaces. American cockroaches are highly attracted to water.
    3. Remove rotting leaves, garbage cans, or compost piles as far from the structure as possible.
    4. Use a residual spray such as Talstar One or Cynoff WP outside around all points of possible entry including windows and door frames, dryer vents, and pipe openings. Use the same residual indoors along baseboards and framed entry points.
    5. For added protection, apply Talstar Granules outside around the base of the house as a perimeter treatment.

    Q
Which insecticide is the most effective for camel crickets specifically?
Hi, I see that your website offers an array of insecticides. I am targeting camelback crickets specifically (anything else that dies is a plus). How would you rank the insecticides (I plan on doing an indoor and outdoor spray) Demon WP, Bifen IT, and Tempo SC)? Not that price is an issue, but if I am going to to the exterior as well, it wouldn't hurt if the price isn't too hard on the wallet. Thanks in advance.
    A
With Talstar P the crickets just need to cross over treated areas to get a lethal dose of the insecticide. With the Niban FG they need to be attracted to and then consume the bait. Both products work great and both will do a great job it just breaks down to what is needed for your particular space. Is it okay to apply an insecticide? Can you get to the areas that need to be treated? If so an insecticide like Talstar will work very well.

    Q
What is Bifenthrin in Talstar, and do you have any products to use with a fogger for carpet beetles?
    A
Bifenthrin is the active ingredient in Talstar P. It is mixed at 1 oz per gallon per 1,000 sq ft per month on the exterior of the structure and once every three months indoors (cracks and crevices). Using a fogger will not penetrate into cracks and crevices where carpet beetle larvae hide, and it does not leave a residual to kill insects later when they come out of hiding.  This product will only kill what is out in the open when it goes off.  We recommend reading our articles on carpet beetle control.

    Pest Control-Products Outside of House
I want to put some pest control outside around the house, in the brick crevices etc... An exterminator company came to the house last week offering a sale of $120 every 2 months to preventative control, for spiders, mice, whatever other bugs are outside. I just built my house which is outside of town in a subdivision, but across the street we have open, fields etc... I have purchased from this website before, and I figured I would give it a shot at doing it myself before paying those rates. What product would you recommend?
    A
Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

    Q
Can I sleep in my home after I've sprayed Talstar P?
I found termites in my home tonight and need to spray Talstar. Can I sleep in my home after I've sprayed it? Or do I need to let it air out over night?
    A
Talstar P can be applied for above ground termites but will take a couple of hours to dry and you should leave the home after treatment until the surfaces are dry. You can sleep in the home afterwards. Talstar will not be an instant kill. Please contact us for information on termite treatments at 866-581-7378 M-F 9-5PM EST. Any household cleaning product will kill the ones that you see right now without you having to worry or leave the home this late at night.

    Q
When using a mist blower, how far into a treeline should we treat for mosquitos?
Our back yard (1/4 acre) is surrounded by dense woods with substantial underbrush on three sides and we're wondering how far into the woods we'd need to blow a misting pesticide like Telstar P into the cover to provide defense against biting black flies and mosquitos. Of course, this would be done in conjunction to the spraying of shrubs and patio areas in the main part of the yard. Additionally, where we don't spend nearly as much time in the front yard (1/4 acre, open to a street) as the back, is it worth spraying the shrubs and trees in that area as vigorously as the backyard?
    A
There is no definite "coverage area" for mosquitoes because they are flying insects. However, keep in mind that the better the coverage, the better the results. For best results we would recommend treating as far back into the woods as possible and also ask neighbors about the possibility of treating their property. The larger the treated zone the more impact on the mosquito population. You want to treat all bushes, shrubs, and low lying tree branches and be sure to get the undersides of the leaves which is where those pesky mosquitoes like to hide during the day.

    Q
How does Talstar P compare to Essentria IC3?
    A
Talstar P is a water based synthetic pyrethroid and Essentria IC3 is a natural product made up of botanical oils. They contain different active ingredients. They are listed for some of the same insects including ants and mosquitoes. They both have the same length of residual after applied. Essentria IC3 can be applied near water areas without harming aquatic life and Talstar P should NOT be applied to those areas. Talstar is offered in a pint, quart, 3/4 gallon and gallon concentrated bottles and diluted at an ounce per gallon of water. Essentria IC3 is available in a quart and gallon size and you will mix 1-10 oz per gallon of water depending on the insect targeted.

    Q
What are the best products and time schedule to treat arbor vitae trees infected with Bag worms?
    A
We recommend using Talstar P for the treatment of bagworms. You can learn more about how to eliminate bagworms by reading our article Bagworm Control.  Applications should start in April and continue monthly through June for bagworm control. Treatments should start around the time when the larva move out of the mother's bag and before they make their own bags.  Be sure foliage is sprayed thoroughly to the point of runoff to achieve adequate coverage

    Q
Bermuda grass turning brown after being sprayed with Talstar P.
I sprayed my Bermuda grass when it was around 92 degrees in the afternoon. My grass is now turning brown, is this normal? Will my grass be okay?
    A
We do advise not spraying Talstar P during the heat of day to avoid scorching your lawn which is what could have happened to your lawn.  When used as directed Talstar should not harm the grass and it should be ok after a while with watering and time as the product is not a systemic that would be absorbed through the plant.

  • Asked by Jp

    Q
    Will Talstar work for centipedes?
Is Talstar safe inside and around kids?
    A

Talstar would be a good choice to use around the inside and outside of your home to eliminate centipedes. Indoors you can apply Talstar P to door frames, window frames, places where utilities enter into the structure, and any other place where the insects can gain entry. Outdoors you should apply the product to door frames, window frames, places where utilities enter into the structure, around the bottom of the foundation and out onto the ground directly around the foundation. You can also limit favorable conditions that the centipedes need to thrive.

    Remove Favorabe Conditions

    • Fix leaky faucets or pipes and dry up wet or damp areas where centipedes thrive
    • Remove outdoor harborages near the home that hold moisture (compost, wood, or leaf piles, etc).
    • Store firewood off the ground at least 20 feet away from the home
    • Water your lawn in the morning so that it will be dry by afternoon
    • Do not over mulch flower beds, since soggy mulch is an ideal harborage for centipedes

  • Asked by Monique from El Paso Tx
    07/08/2015
    Q
When can you clean the floors after the inside of your house has been sprayed with Talstar?
With that question: does cleaning the floor remove any residue left after it's dry? And if the floor gets wet where the spray was dry is it bad for young children and pets?
    A

Talstar is meant to be applied to cracks and crevices not as a broadcast to floors. If you do mop an area that Talstar has been applied, then you could potentially take the product up and Talstar would need to be re applied.

    Q
Is the residual harmful to young children and pets if it gets re-wet?
For example; a toddler spilles milk on the floor where the Talstar was treated or the dog spilled water everywhere on the floor including the baseboards where the Talstar was sprayed and dried.
    A

Talstar will not be reconstituted and become dangerous if it gets wet. Talstar can be taken off of a surface if gets gets washed up with soap and water and would need to be reapplied. Please contact us at 1-866-581-7378 for and further information.
