    Q
What is a good general indoor and yard granual pest control?
Currently I have purchased and use Demon WP for outdoor application around the house but I also want to find a good general indoor pest control and a general outdoor granule for use as backyard grass application so my kids don't get bit up. We don't have any pest issues now but I just canceled my yearly pest control to do it my self as it was getting pricy to pay every 3 months. Can you suggest anything. Thank you

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer. It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments. It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

    Q
What is the best and longest lasting mosquito product?
I live in Southwest Louisiana and we have had a lot of rain lately thus a bad outbreak of the little bloodsuckers. I need a product that is not going to disappear after the first rainfall?
    A

Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  Best of all it will not harm any birds in the area.

    Q
Is spraying along the baseboards inside considered a crack and crevice spray using Talstar P?
    A
Spraying the baseboards with Talstar P is not considered a crack and crevice spray.  Although pest control companies used to just go around the inside of a home and spray down the baseboards, it is not really considered acceptable practice any longer.  99% of all pests enter the home from the outside so the most important treatment of any home is the outside perimeter.  On the inside you should just hit the "hot spots" which are underneath and behind appliances, inside water heater closets, and in wall voids where pipes go into walls and cupboards behind toilets and under sinks. We actually have an instructional video that demonstrates how and where to spray around and inside your home.

    Q
Is Talstar effective for killing fleas?
I have a dog and cat with fleas. I've used flea foggers ,flea shampoo, mothballs in vacuum, dawn dish liquid shampoo, and I still have fleas in the house and on my pets.
    A
Talstar P cannot be used as a broadcast spray indoors and would not be a good choice for indoor flea control. We recommend you use Ultracide for indoor flea control. It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time, they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". The vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment.   After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming. You should use a product that is registered to use on your pets for fleas such as Frontline or Advantage. Talstar P can be used effectively outdoors for places where your pets may frequent and also moist shady areas. Treating outdoors will help prevent your pets from re-infesting your home.

    Q
Oz. Per gal. chinch bugs in buffalo grass?
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is a great product for chinch bugs. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil. When treating for chinch bugs it is recommended that you do a second treatment 21-30 days after the first treatment. You will use 1 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water. This will treat 1000 square feet. Be sure to water the product in at least 0.5 inches after it has been applied.
