    Q
What is the best outside treatment for my centipede problem?
Of all the products that say they kill centipedes which works best for my whole yard. I have pest control come to treat inside my house. Im still getting tons of centipedes entering the house eventually dying. However my yard and driveway and front entrance is full of them where we do not treat I'm trying to take control of these darn things from entering the house. I figure now I need to treat our whole property. So which is the best product you sell.
    A

Talstar P would be a good choice to use around the inside and outside of your home to eliminate centipedes. Indoors you can apply Talstar P to door frames, window frames, places where utilities enter into the structure, and any other place where the insects can gain entry. Outdoors you should apply the product to door frames, window frames, places where utilities enter into the structure, around the bottom of the foundation and out onto the ground directly around the foundation. You can also limit favorable conditions that the centipedes need to thrive.

    Remove Favorabe Conditions

    • Fix leaky faucets or pipes and dry up wet or damp areas where centipedes thrive
    • Remove outdoor harborages near the home that hold moisture (compost, wood, or leaf piles, etc).
    • Store firewood off the ground at least 20 feet away from the home
    • Water your lawn in the morning so that it will be dry by afternoon
    • Do not over mulch flower beds, since soggy mulch is an ideal harborage for centipedes

    Q
Will the Talstar P affect turtles?
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One) is safe to use around animals as long as they are out of the area while you are spraying, they can return as soon as the area is dry. Although The Talstar P (Talstar One) is safe once it's dried, you do not want to apply directly to water, or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Drift and run-off from treated areas may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in neighboring areas.

    Q
Will TalstarPro kill a St. Augustine lawn if more than 1oz is applied when treating for Chinch bugs?
When using the Chapin wet/dry sprayer much more of the solution was sprayed than the directions suggested and we now have 3.5oz of TalstarPro on just over 500sqft of lawn. We followed instructions step by step, but apparently still made and error somewhere.
    A

While we do not recommend to apply Talstar P (Talstar One) at a higher rate than 1oz, your lawn should be just fine. Please keep in mind that it's also recommended to apply during cooler times of the day.

Can I spray Talstar P on vegetable foliage e.g. tomatoes and Okra or on fruit trees such as citrus to eliminate ants and other bugs?

    Q
Does Talstar P work on bed bugs? And if so, how often should one apply your product?
    A
Talstar P is labeled for bed bugs, but the Talstar label itself says it should not be used as the only product to get rid of a bed bug problem.  Typically, one product will not do the job.  That's why we offer our Bed Bug Kits, which have multiple products that are used in different areas in the bedroom and that do different things.  The kit is exactly the products that a professional company would use and charge you hundreds of dollars to apply.  All of our kits come with full instructions on where to apply each product.  We make it easy as possible for you to treat your own bed bug problem, and our kits have a very high success rate when used correctly.

    Q
How can I control gnats in my yard?
We sit outside and they bite all over, and I tried yard guard and it works some.
    A
There are a few ways to keep the number of gnats down. You can invest in a misting system that periodically sprays a pyrethrin insecticide in your yard. This system is a lot like a sprinkler system. We do not carry the actual mister system but we do carry the insecticide that is used in it called Riptide. If you want to get something you can just spray you can try Talstar P. Gnats that land on the treated areas will be eliminated. Talstar P will not repel the gnats from the area nor will it kill the gnats that do not land on the treated areas.

    Q
How do you apply Talstar P for flea problem in house? The fleas are in the carpet.
    A
Talstar P cannot be used as a broadcast spray indoors, so it would not be a good choice for indoor flea control. We recommend you use Ultracide for indoor flea control. It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". But, the vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment.   After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming.

    Q
What is the safest way to get rid or minimize the amount of tiny files in my home?
I have an indoor plant that requires diffused sun exposure. I transferred it to a bigger pot, and it has gotten these tiny flies. They are black and about the size of sesame seeds. I have no food exposed near that plant, but the number of flies have increased significantly. I don't know how to get rid of them or at least control the amount to a minimum. I have an indoor cat, and i wish to solve this the safest way possible.
    A
The flies normally associated with potted plants will be fungus gnats, living in the soil and whose larvae feed on bits of molds and fungi they can find in damp soils. The easiest control for them is to allow the soil to dry out completely between the times you are watering them, which may actually be the best thing for the plants anyhow. The second option would be to cover the soil in these pots with some material that prevents the flies from getting to or from the soil, such as a thick layer of spagnum moss or some screening. The third option would be to use an insecticide such Talstar P. Talstar P is a concentrated liquid insecticide that is diluted with water and then poured onto the soil and sprayed onto the plant itself. We recommend starting with letting the soil dry out between watering as this offers the fastest control in most cases.

    Q
How much Talstar do I need for the perimeter of a 2,000 sq ft home?
    A
Talstar P is a concentrated insecticide, and you should only need 1-2 gallons of diluted solution for exterior treatments. Talstar P can be diluted 1 oz per gallon of water at its highest usage rate. You can purchase Talstar P in several different sizes 16 oz, 32 oz, 96 oz, 128 oz.

    Q
How close can you use this product to fruit trees and how long must you wait to eat fruit if using on trees?
I have a problem with Sri Lanka Weevils on my Lemon Meyer tree. I was reading through the Q&A and the same questions kept getting asked about spraying on fruits and vegetables. Well, my tree doesn't have fruit, due to the invasive weevils. So here are my questions. I was wondering how long I have to wait after spraying my tree down to eat from it? If I spray it before I get fruit and then my tree blooms a month later will that fruit be safe? Will it effect other trees nearby and is it in anyway systemic? How far would you suggest spraying Talstar P from my vegetable gardens? Is it safe to do a perimeter spray of my veggie gardens as long as I don't spray the plants? Will Talstar P kill grubs and is it safe to spray on a lawn with fruit trees nearby?
    A
Since Talstar is not labeled to spray on fruit trees or any other edible vegetation we really cannot offer advice on using the product for this type of application. We do have many products from Fertilome and Hi-Yield on our site that are specifically labeled for the use you have outlined. Talstar is not a systemic and it can be used outside of the dripline for your plants and trees.  Talstar is not labeled for grubs because it binds down to the soil and cannot move far enough below the surface to effect the eggs or grubs. We do have Merit Granules that can be used for grubs in your lawn.

    Q
For large yard, should I have a blower to apply Talstar P?
I have a large yard, over 15000 square feet, surrounded by large trees/woods. I would need to treat ground cover, bushes/shrubs, and also the perimeter of the property going into the woods and up into the trees several feet. Is the solo mister/blower or the Stihl mister/blower the best way or is a hand sprayer adequate or preferred?
    A
A hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer would be the preferred method of application. For that large of an area a backpack sprayer would be the best method.  We carry all types and we even have one that is battery powered that is very popular and makes it very easy to apply the product.
