Talstar P Professional Insecticide could be used as topical bark spray on trees that have not been infested with EAB but would not work systemically to eliminate insects inside the tree.
Since systemic products can take several weeks to translocate through a plant, we recommend applying a systemic insecticide with Imidacloprid such as Dominion 2L or Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic as a soil drench around the root zone. Preventative or low level infestations are treated at 0.18 to 0.25 fl oz in 2 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft followed by ¼ inch of rainfall or irrigation to ensure the active ingredient gets into the subsurface soil layer. For heavy or severe infestations, apply at the 1 fl oz per 2 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft.
The manufacturer recommends to time applications to control young larvae, if possible. Spot treatments may be applied when infestations are first detected and the damaged area is small.
