Talstar P Professional Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Talstar P Professional Insecticide can be applied outdoors every 30 days.

Talstar P should be used at the highest concentration of 1 oz of Talstar per gallon of water for bedbug treatments. According to the product label: "Thorough application should be made to crack and crevices where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, box springs, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges, high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application. Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use. Not recommended for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use." As you can see the Talstar P  manufacturers do not recommend that you use Talstar P by itself to get rid of bedbugs. Talstar P Professional Insecticide will kill any flies that come in contact with a treated surface, but it is not what we recommend for drain flies. We would recommend our Drain Fly Kit, it contains all the products you should need to successfully treat your drain fly problem, and it includes products that are safe for use inside household drains. Talstar P is labeled for bedbugs. According to the product label, it should not be the only product that you use for bedbug control. We recommend that you treat with the items in one of our Bedbug Kits as the kits multiple products needed for treatment. Talstar P will kill stinkbugs. You should dilute one ounce of Talstar P per gallon of water. You will use a hand pump sprayer to apply the solution on all door frames, window frames, areas where utilities (cables, pipes, wires) enter into the structure, a band of soil 6 to 10 feet adjacent to the structure, also to a height of 2 to 3 feet on the foundation where pests may be active or may find entrance. As the stink bugs crawl over the treated area, they will receive a lethal dose of the insecticide and usually die within a few hours. You should treat every month starting in August and ending in November for the best results.

Ground bees, also known as digger bees, can be very difficult to control no matter what product you use and they most likely will come back to your property year after year unless you do your part to alter your property to make it unfavorable to the bees. Ground bees prefer dry soils with thin grasses so irrigating the area frequently and correcting any issue that causes your grass to be thin will help deter the bees from nesting. In areas where you do not have grass, a layer of mulch will help deter the bees from nesting. Ground bees are solitary bees and are not very aggressive and are known to be a beneficial insect which is why you will not find any products specifically labeled for this type of bee. Talstar P can help provide some level of control but it will not get rid of all of the ground bees on your property. You should use Talstar P at a 1 oz of product to 1 gallon of water for a 1,000 sq ft area ratio. This will give you the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. Talstar P does not offer an instant knockdown but will kill insects that come into contact with treated areas over a short period of time.

 Talstar P is not labeled for use on edibles.  You could use a product such as  Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic.  Please click on the link below for a product that can be applied to edibles.

Edible Vegetation Control

ExciteR is a good option to give Talstar P Professional Insecticide a faster knockdown during application.

Talstar is labeled for mole crickets. Here is what the manufacturer says:
Mole Cricket adults: Achieving acceptable control of adult mole crickets is difficult because preferred grass areas are subject to continuous invasion during the early spring by this extremely active stage. Applications should be made as late in the day as possible and should be watered in with up to 0.5 inches of water immediately after treatment. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to bring the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized. Grass areas that receive pressure from adult mole crickets should be treated at peak egg hatch to ensure optimum control of subsequent nymph populations (see below). 

Mole Cricket nymphs: Grass areas that received intense adult mole cricket
pressure in the spring should be treated immediately prior to peak egg hatch. Optimal control is achieved at this time because young nymphs are more susceptible to insecticides and they are located near the soil surface where the insecticide is most concentrated. Control of larger, more damaging, nymphs later in the year may require both higher application rates and more frequent applications to maintain acceptable control. Applications should be made as late in the day as possible and should be watered in with up to 0.5 inches of water immediately after treatment. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to bring the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized.

Talstar P could potentially kill beneficial insects including nematodes should they contact the treated area.

Talstar P  can be used around window, door frames and cracks and crevices for over 75 insects. You will mix 1 oz per gallon of water and reapply outdoors every 30 days. 

For mosquitoes key is to apply to the underside of leaves on trees/bushes which is where the adults lay during the day, as well as shady areas.  You would not treat entire areas of the lawn that are in full sun as it is not habitable for them there.

No, Talstar P contains Bifenthrin which is a synthetic pyrethroid.

Talstar is labeled to control crane flies. Please see the product label for complete application instructions. 

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is not labeled to be tank-mixed with fragrance though you can certainly spray a fragrance after the product has been applied. 

Talstar P is only specifically labeled for clover mites and spider mites.  It would be a good idea to get an identification of the mite species you are dealing with to be sure you choose the right product. 

You can apply Talstar P Professional Insecticide to gladiolus foliage and to the soil. You will need to check with your local department of agriculture to see if the plants can be sold. 

If you are spraying porous surfaces you would want to choose a product such as Demon WP. It will stay on the surface of porous areas allowing insects to come in contact with it a bit better. That being said, Demon WP also leaves a white powdery residue that is visible on dark surfaces. Talstar P is a concentrated liquid that is odorless, dries clear and is labeled for a huge variety of insects and areas making it a bit more versatile. If you need to spray plants, trees and siding Talstar P would be a great choice.

For control of larger roaches outdoors, you will usually see best results using a granule bait for the insects applied in areas such as under decks and porches and around landscaping. Niban Granular Bait is a great option for this application.

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is a great general purpose insecticide that controls over 75 insects for both indoor and outdoor applications. You will want to mix at 1 fl oz per gallon of water which will leave a residual for 30 days outdoors/90 days indoors. Most insecticides will not be labeled for love bugs, specifically, since this insect is only a concern in a small part of the country and for a short time. The best protection from them is physically covering vehicles and other sensitive surfaces when these insects are swarming in large numbers.

 

Yes, Talstar P is labeled to kill ants in general, including pharaoh ants.

The label advised not to exceed one ounce per one gallon of water. Talstar P is long lasting and generally does not need to be applied more than once every few months. It should not be reapplied more than once every 7 days. After your first application if you are still seeing a heavy infestation you can reapply another application.
Please refer to product label for correct instructions. If your mixing rate is not per label instructions it may become ineffective.
