    Q
I live in Ocala, Fl, and I need Diazinon (or better).
I just moved to Ocala, Florida from up north in Maryland. The ants and termites are everywhere, and they are getting in the house. I had used Diazinon years ago (in Maryland) to control pests. It was GREAT. What is equal too or better than it, that can be purchased at a local Lowes or Home Depot?
    A

Diazinon was outlawed over 10 years ago, and it is too bad because it was a great product.  Unfortunately, the over the counter products do not even come close to the effectiveness of Diazinon.  However, our professional products do!  We sell the same professional products used by professional companies that cannot be sold over the counter.  Our most popular product is Talstar P.  It is a general use insecticide which can be applied inside and outside, is odorless, is labeled for over 80 different insects, and can last up to 90 days in between treatments.  Please take a moment and read some of our over 50 customer reviews about how well Talstar worked for them.

    Q
Can I spray another application of Talstar P for army worms? I sprayed four days ago.
I applied one ounce of Talstar One four days ago at dusk. I noticed tonight that there are still moths and worms. Is it safe to apply another application, or is it to soon? How long does it take to get rid of these pests? If it is to soon, do you have any other suggestions? Thank you so much.
    A

The application rate of 1 ounce of Talstar One per gallon of water is correct, as is treating in the evening when the insects have come out of hiding and are exposed. You can retreat after 2 weeks in most cases. You should notice a reduction in the number of army worms within the first few days but because the moths can migrate from just about anywhere, you may continue to see them (the moths do not cause damage).

    Q
    Will Talstar P control crickets?
In my basement, I have a problem with camel back or cave crickets. I don't know the difference between them, but they are both horrible! I have glue traps down already, but I need something else too. It is disgusting!
    A
Talstar P will kill crickets. Apply Talstar P as a crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas. Do not use as a space spray. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices. We recommend treating the outside perimeter to help stop insect pests from coming indoors to start with. Apply Talstar P to a band of soil and vegetation 6 to 10 feet wide around and adjacent to the structure. Also, treat the foundation of the structure to a height of 2 to 3 feet.

    Q
Do you have a product like Talstar P that can be shipped to New York for Japanese beetle control?
I HATE Japanese beetles - I have a routine of swearing, hand-plucking, and stomping! That is NOT working for the hundreds and hundreds that we have. I was excited to see you recommend your Talstar and then....shot down when I see you can't sell it to me in New York - any other ideas? We and three neighbors have beetle bags that are filling up weekly
    A

Unfortunately, there is not another product that is comparable to Talstar P for Japanese Beetles that can be shipped to New York. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office for recommendations.

    Q
Can birds die from eating insects that have died from Talstar P?
We have found dead birds in our yard within a week or two after using Talstar P. Well after the Talstar application was dry, there were still insects outside that were dead or dying.
    A
No, Talstar P would not harm birds eating the dead insects. Talstar P is a very safe product when used as directed on the product label. In fact, Talstar P is even labeled to be used in poultry houses where birds come in direct contact with the product.

    Q
Will Talstar P harm small lizards and geckos that live outside around our house?
    A
If the lizards are sprayed directly with the Talstar P it may cause them harm. If they travel over dried deposits of the Talstar P it would be less likely to cause any issues.

    Q
Which product is best for all around inside pest control in a household with dogs and cats?
I'm looking to save a little money rather than paying an expensive quarterly contract. I would like something that I could use inside and out of the house. I would like it not to have a residue. There are so many to choose from.
    A
We recommend Talstar P for outdoor/indoor control of most flying and crawling insects. Talsta P is safe to use around animals as long as they are out of the area while you are spraying, they can return as soon as the area is dry. Talstar P is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and will not break down easily with rainfall.

    Q
Japanese beetles are eating almost everything in my yard. What can I use that will be safe for my flowers?
They are also eating my flowering crab trees, oak trees and just about every tree in the area. Where do they come from and how can I safely rid my yard of these things? I have 3 Japanese Beetle bags out and they are each about 2 to 3 inches full of bugs, but they are everywhere. I have sprayed a 3 in 1 Systemic on my Rose bushes and flowers around the house and they are back in just a few days. Tonight, I counted over 200 hundred of them on a combination of trees and bushes in my yard. I spray the bugs with a Dawn dish soap and water mixture in between the Systemic spray, but I can't get ahead of them. HELP !!!
    A
We would recommend Talstar P.  It is a insecticide that is labeled for lawn and ornamentals and is safe for plants, bushes, shrubs and trees.  You can also apply it inside and outside your home for insects that try to enter the house.  You would not want to apply Talstar P on any garden vegetables or something you are going to eat.  TalstarP will provide a 30 day residual on the plants that you spray and should provide relief against the Japanese beetles.

    Q
I have larder beetles. I need to know what I can use to get rid of them but will not harm my Macaws?
I am in an apartment, and I know they are using the radiators. The eggs have hatched and now these beetles are already shedding by the time they get to the other register. My cat is excellent at finding these things. Anyway, I have asked my manager to have his bug guy come, but I get nowhere. I also have two Macaws that are VERY sensitive. I cannot even cook on Teflon, the fumes will kill them. Someone told me to use Bifenthrin, but is this safe? What are my alternatives?
    A
Bifenthrin is an active ingredient found in several products, Talstar P being the most popular and widely used bifenthrin product. Talstar P is a very safe product and is even labeled to be used in poultry houses and animal confinement areas. Having said that, we do not feel comfortable making a product recommendation for you because your birds are so sensitive. We recommend you speak to your veterinarian for recommendations or remove the birds completely during the entire treatment process.

    Q
I have tiny black ants living in bonsai pots outside. No food involved, sweet or greasy, how do I kill them?
These ants are also living in the lawn. There are two sizes, one is less than an eighth of an inch, the other is even tinier. They are shiny solid black. The tiniest ones will crawl up onto the tops of my feet and bite. They actually have eggs in the soil of the plant pots. I have a few mealybugs here and there, and the occasional group of aphids, but otherwise, I cannot figure out why they want to be in the pots. I would love to find a drench where I could submerge the whole pot and get rid of them for good. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
    A
You can use Talstar P to spray the plant and soil to get rid of these tiny pests. Since you know exactly where the ant colony is, you can treat it directly. Talstar P is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and spray directly in the infested areas. You can use 1 oz of concentrate per gallon of water. Talstar can also be used to help eliminate ants in the yard and as a general insecticide to keep other nuisance pests out of your home

    Q
How can I control gnats in my yard?
We sit outside and they bite all over, and I tried yard guard and it works some.
    A
There are a few ways to keep the number of gnats down. You can invest in a misting system that periodically sprays a pyrethrin insecticide in your yard. This system is a lot like a sprinkler system. We do not carry the actual mister system but we do carry the insecticide that is used in it called Riptide. If you want to get something you can just spray you can try Talstar P. Gnats that land on the treated areas will be eliminated. Talstar P will not repel the gnats from the area nor will it kill the gnats that do not land on the treated areas.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used in a broadcast hose-end sprayer for pests in the grass?
If so, is there a guide for how much to use?
    A
Yes, Talstar P can be used in a hose end sprayer to apply to a large area like a lawn. You apply at the same rate as a hand held sprayer.  Typically, this is one ounce per gallon of water per 1000 square feet.  So, if you wanted to treat your lawn that was 5000 square feet, you would place 5 ounces of Talstar P in the hose end sprayer and then set or fill your sprayer to the 5 gallon mark.

    Q
We have large, black ants devouring our pear trees from within. What product should I use?
We have used over the counter ant killers and nothing is working. Ants have eaten a HUGE CAVITY from the base of our pear tree up thru the center of the trunk. Now, they are starting on the next pear tree. We were told to get Talstar P, but have no idea which one of your many products we need to order.
    A
You should not spray any edible vegetation such as pear trees with Talstar P. You should contact your local cooperative extension office for recommendations, as we are not sure what type of ant you are dealing with. The folks at the extension office are usually very well versed with local insects and what works best for them.

    Q
What is the best product to kill earwigs?
I see a lot of products for earwigs on your site, but I do not know which one would work the best.
    A

Most of the synthetic pyrethroid insecticides on our site would do a great job for earwig control. Talstar P would be a great choice for earwigs. You can spray both indoors and outdoors with this product. Talstar P, one of our best sellers, has a long residual, is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and wont break down easily with rainfall.

    Q
Does Talstar P control fire ants?
When we have rain here in SC, the fire ant mounds seem to pop up everywhere. Can I put this in my atv sprayer to kill these ants, and if so, how long does it last?
    A
Yes, Talstar P can be used for fire ant control in the type of sprayer you described, but you will also need to do mound drenching. According to the Talstar P product label, "Fire Ant Mound control is optimized by combining broadcast applications that will control foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens with mound drenches that will control existing colonies. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application or use a high volume application. Apply broadcast treatments at 0.5 to 1 fluid oz. per 1,000 square feet. Use enough finished volume to penetrate thatch or sod. Treat mounds by applying 1 oz of Talstar P per mound in 1 to 2 gallons water by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat 3 feet out around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12”. Treat mounds with sufficient force to break their apex and allow the insecticide solution to flow into the ant tunnels. For best results, apply in cool weather (65 - 80˚F) or in early morning or late evening hours."

    Q
Do you recommend any pest control for wood mulch around a play set?
We have put up a play set (swings, slide, sand box), and we have put wood mulch around it as a cushion for the play set. I have been told that ants (and other undesired bugs) make this their home. Is there something I can use that is kid friendly (my daughter is old enough not to eat the wood chips) if any gets on her hands or feet?
    A
You can spray around the perimeter of the play area with Talstar P. Talstar P has a long residual, so it keeps on killing pests for up to three months after you have sprayed it. Plus, Talstar P is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and will not break down easily with rainfall. We do not recommend spraying any insecticides directly on areas where children will be coming in skin contact on a regular basis.

    Q
Which product is more recommended for termites Talstar P or Termidor SC?
My home was originally treated with Talstar 72 from the builder 5 years ago.
    A
Termidor SC is the #1 termite product on the market. When used as an in-ground barrier treatment, Termidor SC will protect your home or business for over 10 years. Termidor SC is completely undetectable by termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony. Termidor SC controls all types of termites including subterranean, formosan, and drywood termites. Talstar P lasts for about 5 years in the ground and works as a repellent, killing only those insects that come into contact with the treated area.
