Can Termidor SC be used in a crawl space below the house?

A

Termidor SC should be applied as a trench and in drilled holes on the exterior of the house. You can also trench inside the crawl space and should around any piers also. Q

Is it ok to spray Termidor SC within 24 hours of expected rain?
An exterminator wants to apply Termidor however its supposed to rain a few hours later...He says that as long as its dry for two hours..It should not compromise the effectiveness. Under the Q/A section it was suggested to spray when rain is not expected within 24 hours?

A

We are not the manufacturer, but it is our suggestion to not apply if it is going to rain within 24 hours. The product does need some time to bond to the soil. We might suggest insisting that he treat on another day when there is no rain in the forecast.

Does Termidor need to resprayed if it rains?
I sprayed Termidor around the perimeter of my house yesterday to try and combat an infestation of crazy ants we have. About 8 hours later it rained. I know the Termidor was completely dry by this point but I'm wondering if the rain rendered it ineffective and if I need to respray now?

Termidor SC is rainfast after 6 hours. If you treated and it dried prior to the rainfall, you should not have to retreat.

If I have borax powder around the foundation, can I still spray over the top of it with Termidor?
Also, at what point do I stop baiting inside if I am not seeing anymore carpenter ants? I feel like if they are gone maybe focus on on outside to keep them from coming in. Also, should I keep baiting outside with Kit #1 vs a kill and repel approach? I don't want to bait inside if it will draw more in than out or what do suggest now for prevention again since I am not seeing anymore carpenter ants inside the house for more than a week now. Can I be confident that they are gone or just regrouping?

No, Termidor SC cannot be sprayed on top of any type of powder/dust. If you are no longer seeing activity inside, there is no need to continue baiting. More than likely, they have taken the bait to the colony and eliminated it. You can spray Termidor SC around the perimeter of your home outdoors only. This should only be sprayed twice a year. It is likely that they have been eliminated from your lawn/home if you are no longer seeing them.

Per feet of Depth
You say to treat using 4 gallons per 10 ft of trench but the label states using 4 gallons per 10 ft per foot of depth. You state one bottle will treat 60 lineal feet. So does that mean if you have 3ft of depth per 60 ft that you would need 3 bottles per 60 ft?

With Termidor SC, you will dig a 6 inch by 6 inch trench around the structure of your home. The depth of the trench will be 6 inches. When mixing Termidor SC, you will use .8 fl. oz. per gallon of water. You will use 4 gallons of solution per 10 lineal feet. One bottle treats 60 lineal feet that way. Three bottles of Termidor SC will treat 180 lineal feet. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Will Termidor bind to sand too?
I live in FL and I found the soil around my house is mostly sand.

A

Termidor SC can be used in sandy soil. You would still do the trench and treat the sand 6" x 6" around the foundation as termites will still go through that area to get to your home if looking for food, if this is your target pest.

How do the trenching instructions change for the case where the top of the foundation footer is only 4 inches
Below grade? Also, the top of the shallow footer extends out from the house about 12 inches. So, following the standard instructions, I'd be pouring the liquid entirely on top of concrete!

If the footer is right below the dirt level, within 6 inches, and it comes out 12 inches, then you should make your trench out where the footer ends. In other words, instead of digging a 6 inch trench directly against the structure, you will move the trench away from the house where you can dig down past the footer. You should still treat the soil in between the trench and the house (where the soil sits on top of the footer) by just drenching the soil if you can.

I have a lemon & apple trees 3 feet from the foundation where the Termidor SC will be injected.
Will fruit from these trees ever be safe to eat? Do I need to remove the trees? Or discard the fruit from the next season?

A

Termidor SC bonds to the soil and does not move once it is applied. Therefore, it can be applied where a well or garden is present as long as it is more than 10 feet away from the well or garden or tree. We would suggest not applying Termidor SC along the side of the house that is within 10 feet of the trees. You should keep a close eye on this area of the house for termites, or you can of course always install some Termite Bait Stations in that area for monitoring activity.

Will Termidor SC kill caterpillars?
Every year, we usually get Eastern Tent Caterpillars around April and May. This year we are seeing a lot more and they are destroying our plants.

I am doing a subterranean termite treatment - can I use Termidor HE and Termidor SC?
After finding a huge sub. Termite infestation in my crawl space, can I use Termidor HE in the areas that access is extremely difficult and the Termidor SC in the areas that have much easier access? Also, should I spray the bottoms of my sub-floors or any exposed wood with the borax (? name) wood treatment then after both treatments (Termidor,bare wood treatment) should I spread the termite granules across the entire crawl space to or is this a over kill!!?? I am doing the trenching and drilling around the Perimeter according to the Termidor (HE, SC) specs. call for!! Thanks for your help!!! Deno

We do not carry the Termidor HE so we are not familiar with how it compares to the Termidor SC and whether you can use the two products together. Trenching and drilling around the perimeter of the foundation, trenching and drilling any piers under the crawlspace, and spot treating in wall voids with Termidor SC is our best recommendation. If you would like to give extra protection to the exposed sub floors you could do a life long protection on those areas with the Boracare. The Boracare would be mixed at a 1:1 ratio for any active infestations, and a 5:1 ratio for preventative only. Mix it with hot water and spray or paint it onto any raw wood surface for protection for the life of the wood. Please let us know if you have any further questions! How many bottles of Termidor SC do I need to treat my house?
Hi, I have 1550 sq ft house. I want to use a .09 solution. Approximately how many bottles of the termidor SC 20 oz bottle do I need? Thanks

You must find out how many lineal feet you have around the outside or your home. Unfortunately, the square footage just will not tell us how much you really have to treat. To find how many lineal you have, measure around the front, back and each side of your home. Add up the measurements and now you will have the total lineal feet. Use 4 gallons of finished solution per 10 lineal feet around the house. For Example: A home with 200 lineal feet around the foundation would require 4 bottles of Termidor SC. Most homes require at least 4 bottles. For Termite control Termidor SC is mixed at a rate of .80 fl oz. for each gallon of water used and each 20 oz bottle will make 24 gallons of solution and treats 60 lineal feet of trenching.

My house was treated for termites and ants with Termidor SC 2 years ago. I 'm very allergic to this material.
They sprayed the outside perimeter and inside kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. Is there some substance I can use to neutralize Termidor? Even when I air out the house, enough remains to cause upper respiratory irritation. Thanks for your help.

Termidor SC is only labeled to applied indoors as a spot treatment. The application you are describing is off label. Please contact BASF for further assistance.

How do you treat areas for termites that are decked against the home at ground level?
we have a deck in the suspected area that is 10 inches off the ground with no access underneat making it impossible to trench

You can either drill into the deck to get to the soil underneath, or you may need to remove the plank or two closest to the structure so be able to treat the soil.

Do termites come up from underneath your slab? If so than why is 6 in deep enough for your trench?

In the majority of houses and structures the wood termites would be seeking is water damaged wood and is typically located around window and door casings or exterior walls where water may have breached. The 6x6 trench is flooded with solution that actually gets quite deep in the soil. As the termites are searching for food they typically come nearer to the surface of the soil and are very likely to pass through the treated area. Since the most likely place for termites to find the moisture ridden wood is on the exterior, they would normally contact the treated areas (aka trenched areas). That being said, it is still possible for termites to come up underneath slabs if the water damaged wood is contained in say an interior bathroom. This is the exact reason it is recommended that your home be inspected for termites every two years.

Best way to treat termite infestation in Trees
3 to 5 trees are infested with termites. Some of the trees are very large. What product should I use and how should I apply treatment.

Termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees so you most likely will not find any products that will work as a ground barrier around the trees. Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Termidor SC would be the product to use for that. How does Termidor work outside for ants with wood siding and decking?
I recently found carpenter ants in a void in one of my walls. I know they are getting in via damaged wood on the outside of my house (which will be fixed by the end of the month). My home has a cement foundation but a wooden deck that runs right up to the house, which also has wood siding. I plan to spray Termidor on the wood walls and decking outside to hopefully kill the ants inside as well as outside. How long can I expect Termidor to remain on the wood if it is not made to bond to wood? And should I spot check parts of my inside of my house to make sure I get the ones trapped in from the repairs.

You can expect Termidor SC to last for at most 6 weeks when it is applied as directed on the product label for a carpenter ant treatment. Six weeks is all most ant infestations will require for elimination with Termidor SC. You should spot check several weeks after the Termidor SC application to make sure the ants are gone.

Is it normal that Termidor is very slowly absorbed by soil in drilled holes for spot treatments?
I want to do a spot treatment near the toilet. I have already drilled to the soil. Using a funnel and a small tube, I have poured termidor sc. However, the liquid goes down the soil so slow. Do you have any suggestions?

A

It is very normal for Termidor to be very slowly absorbed by the soil as the soil has been compacted by the weight of the structure. You can use a longer drill bit to help make the hole larger to aid in quicker absorption by the soil. As long as th ecorrect amount of solution is being absorbed, you will have treatment success.

When treating the perimeter of the house for ants, will Termidor SC harm the local reptiles?
I live in Florida and have many reptiles such as Tree Frogs, Lizards and Snakes around and on the house. Will using Termidor SC as directed be safe for them.

As long as you use the Termidor SC as directed by the label around the home, it will be safe to reptiles and other animals. You may notice a decrease in the amount of lizards and frogs you see around the home however as they are feeding on the pests that are around your home that the Termidor will be eliminating. If they dont have enough food sources around your home to sustain themselves then they may migrate to other areas to try and survive.
