    Q
Do I still use the trench method to apply Termidor SC when my lower level floor is 4ft below grade?
I have a split level home. The front side is 4ft below grade to the lower level floor. Do i still apply termidor using the trench method at the standard mix to treat for subterranean termites? A stump near my house had a swarm last week and just trying to treat my home for piece of mind.
    A

Yes, you would still apply Termidor SC or whatever termiticide you are using in the 6 in x 6 in trench at the standard rate of 4 gallons per 10 linear feet. Where you would apply additional product would be where there are footers, where you would use a termite rod or hollow tube to apply additional product from grade to the top of the footing.  Per page 7 of the product label

When the footing is more than 4 feet below grade, the applicator has the option to either (1) trench and rod to a minimum depth of 4 feet into the trench along the foundation walls or (2) trench alone along the foundation walls to a minimum depth of 4 feet. The actual depth of treatment will vary depending on soil type, degree of compaction, and location of termite activity. When the top of the footing is exposed, the applicator must treat the soil adjacent to the footing to a depth of 4 feet but not to exceed the bottom of the footing. DO NOT treat a structure below the bottom of the footing.

    Q
    Soaking the foundation
I need run a series of soaker hoses around my house to adequately soak the foundation asap, however, i did just notice a bit of termite infestation in one area of my house. What is my best course of action here?
    A

Termidor SC would be used to directly spot treat the active infestation by drilling into the infested wood and spraying into the gallery directly.  You would also want to apply in a trench around the home.  We have a step by step guide that will walk you through how to do your own termite trenching treatment. You can see the guide by clicking on the link here.

    Q
After the 6x6 perimeter trench has been treated, would it be advisable to fill the trench with rock or gravel
Would filling the trench with rock or gravel allow for future treatments without re-digging the trench as the rock/gravel would remain permeable? Perhaps this would reduce effectiveness of the treatment as it would also allow water to access the treated soil.
    A

The trench should be filled back with the soil you removed to create it so that it can be treated and create the area termites will go through to contact the Termidor SC.  It will last 10 years or more in the soil.

    Q
    Brick Basement Treatment
My home was built in 1923 and has a full basement with brick walls. I started removing some wood walls and noticed live termites where one of the wood walls was attached to the brick. The termites were entering right where the brick wall meet the concrete floor through a cracked mortar joint. This entry point is aprox 4 feet below grade. I have ordered product to do a perimeter treatment of the house. Is there anything special I need to do in addition to the standard perimeter treatment since the termites are entering the basement so far below grade?
    A

If you are doing a perimeter treatment and there is a basement below grade, then the recommended treatment would involve rodding in addition to the standard 6 in x 6 in trench. A professional company would use a long rod attached to a truck spray rig to inject more termiticide every 12 inches to a depth of at least 4 feet. Since a homeowner does not have those tools, you could use a hollow rod or pipe, or a long drill bit (18-24 inches) to help create space to force more termiticide into the ground, ideally at least what you would use for regular treatment, which averages about ½ gallon of solution every 12 inches.

    Q
What will counteract the effects of Termidor SC?
The dog may have ingested water after yard was sprayed.
    A

In California, Termidor SC is only labeled to be sprayed along the foundation exterior perimeter to an area six inches up and six inches out from where the ground meets the foundation, it is not to be broadcasted over the yard. If you feel your dog was exposed to the solution before it dried, you need to contact your vet as soon as possible.

    Q
I am putting a new kitchen plywood subfloor can I use Termidor for preventative termite treatment
    A

Termidor is not a wood treatment product. Timbor is a great product, but it does not penetrate or last as long as another product made by the same company called Bora-Care.  Bora-Care is the best wood treatment product available because it penetrates all the way through a piece of wood where Timbor will only penetrate the outer coating.  If you have older wood then you should always use Bora-CareBora-Care will also stay in the wood forever, preventing any new infestations for years to come.

    Q
I have 2 acres of grass and have two problems. Ants and crabgrass.
For ants I use talstar p, and it works for about 10 days and the ants are back. Would a better option be Termidor? Crabgrass I have been using XLR8 and it kills it, but again its back in about 3 weeks and ready to go to seed. So if I us XLR8 now I assume the seeds are still going to be viable for next year. I cant seem to get ahead of the curve on either one. What am I doing wrong?
    A

Unfortunately, Termidor is only labeled to be used up against the foundation of a structure and cannot be used in lawn applications.  We recommend that you select a product that can be transferred back to the colony instead of a product that is effective only on the ants that touch treated surfaces. Ant baits are always a good choice and a granule product such as Maxforce Complete Granules would be an excellent option for ants in your lawn. You will broadcast it across your lawn in the places where you have seen activity or used inside of Bait Plate Stations. Maxforce Complete has a unique formula with a mixture of proteins, simple sugars, fats and complex carbohydrates in a food-based granular structure that is irresistible to insects.

For crabgrass control, you should be using a pre-emergent crabgrass killer such as Dimension 2EW Herbicide.  This is going to be the best pre emergent product when controlling crabgrass, as it kills the crabgrass in the ground before it has a chance to grow above ground.  The timing of the application of your pre-emergent is crucial to successful crabgrass control. In order to work properly, pre-emergent herbicides need to be in the soil before the crabgrass seeds start to germinate. Germination begins generally when the soil temperatures reach 55 degrees. This is around early spring, but the exact month will vary depending on where you live. Your local extension office can give you tips on when you should apply pre-emergents in your area.

    Q
Is Termidor SC safe for horses even after it dries?
We have two horses on our property that are stalled at night but out in the yard during the day grazing on the grass. We are able to separate the front and back yards if needed by closing the gates on our property. If we were to treat one half while keeping the horses on the other half, would this product be safe for the horses once it dries (say 3-4 days following the application)?
    A

Termidor SC is only labeled to be used adjacent to a structure 1 to 2 feet up and out.  It cannot be used in lawns nor can it be used where animals graze.

    Q
Can I spray the Termidor SC on Austrian pines?
    A

Termidor SC cannot be used away from the foundation of the home/structure unless you are direct treating a carton nest as defined by the Termidor product label. It is not allowed to be used as a trench treatment, drench, or spray on or around a tree out on the property for control of any pest. A better option would be to use a product like Talstar P around the base of the tree if you are concerned there could be termites or other insects in that vicinity. Talstar would safe to use on the tree and would eliminate any insects on the tree, and any that pass through treated soil as well.

    Q
Can Termidor SC be used on graded/sloped and decomposed granite?
The foundation was coated with waterproof membrane.
    A

It is not recommended to use Termidor SC with rock, granite, or gravel. Termidor SC is made to bind to soil molecules which allows it to last for 10 years, whereas Termidor applied to porous surfaces such as rock, granite, gravel, or other material will only last and remain effective for a few months. You should dig a trench in the soil against the foundation and/or drill through concrete to apply. Please take a few moments to review our article on How to Treat for Termites for a successful application. Please let us know if you need anything else.

    Q
Can I just spray 4 gallons of Termidor SC per 10 feet around the entire inside of the crawlspace and the piers? Do I have to trench?
And treat the entire outside foundation as well.
    A

When applying Termidor SC to a home with a raised foundation for subterranean termites, you would trench around the outside of the foundation and around each pier/post accessible under the crawlspace. Everywhere you dig you will follow the method of digging a 6x6 trench and use 4 gallons to every 10 linear feet. There are complete instructions on the Termidor SC product label (page 5) on how to use the product in an accessible and inaccessible crawlspace.

What is the best way to treat a Fire Ant mound with Termidor SC?
I already treat around the perimeter of my house. But there are several mounds out in the yard. I have sprayed some termidor SC on them & after several days to a week, they have a new, living mound right beside it.
    A

Termidor SC is only labeled for application right up against a structure and is not labeled to treat fire ant mounds.  We do carry Extinguish Plus Fire for fire ants.

    Q
Can you use Termidor SC if you have a well?
We live in the country and have a well and septic system. Is this safe to use in this case. We found termites in our out building. How many bottles should we purchase?
    A

The Termidor SC product label states that you cannot use Termidor SC closer than 5 feet from a well or cistern. The amount of product you will need will be dependent on the total linear footage you’re treating.  One 20 ounce bottle will treat approximate 60 linear feet of trenching.

Looking on the web, I see 2 different 20oz bottles of Termidor SC. What is the difference?
    A

Termidor SC comes in a 20 ounce bottle, as well as the generic equivalent of Taurus SC.  Both products contain the same amount of active ingredients and are used the same way.  Both will bond to the soil for up to 10 years when used as a termite trenching solution.

    Q
Where can Termidor SC be sprayed for spiders?
    A

Termidor SC is labeled for spiders, but it can only be sprayed one foot up and one foot out around the exterior of a structure. A better option would be our Spider Control Kit. This kit contains the products you need to prevent or eliminate spider activity in and around your home. Using the three products in this kit after a thorough inspection of the target area will lead to a successful spider treatment program. This kit contains the liquid concentrate Temprid FX in easy-to-use single dose bottles. Temprid FX has two active ingredients that target most common crawling and flying pests long after the initial spray. The included CB-80 is a ready-to-use aerosol insecticide that kills spiders and insects quickly on contact. Finally, Catchmaster 100i Insect Monitors trap spiders and insects to help identify which pests are present and to monitor your treatment.
