Q

How do I know Termidor SC is doing anything ?
As a first time user I just put Termidor SC into an outside wall where I noticed the brown ball like termite crap close to where the wood siding butted up against the concrete. While it foamed etc., it dried up clear in about 30 minutes. Am I supposed to be able to see any residue after the foam has disappeared and how do I know it is doing anything?

A

Termidor does not leave a residue and so what you saw was normal. Unfortunately there is no real sign that you will see to know that it is working other than the fact that you will not have any new termite activity. If you treated correctly and the termites did come into contact with the Termidor SC, then it will work. You have to trust that Termidor is the best termite control product for a reason. Since it does not kill the termites right away and it allows them to take the product back under the slab where the rest of the termites are, it takes up to 90 days to kill all of the termites. So you should not disturb the area or check to see if there is still activity until after 90 days.

Can Termidor SC be used on exterior wood?

A

Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product and will not penetrate into wood if you are trying to treat for an active infestation. It is meant to be applied to soil. So spraying Termidor on exterior wood or any other surface will not do much. If you are trying to take care of termites in wood, then you have to drill holes into the wood and inject the Termidor directly. It has to come into contact with the termites in the wood to be effective.

Drilling at a 45 degree angle to gain access under the slab as well as trenching?
I am told that I need to drill at a 45 degree angle so as to access the area behind the footer and under the slab. I am sure I can do this from inside the house with verticle holes but with carpet installed that is a no go unless I pull back the carpet which is doable. This 45 degree hole will also be done in areas where trenching is also done.

When using Termidor SC, drilling into the interior of a slab is NOT necessary if you are treating the outside perimeter of the home. If you are trenching around the outside of the house and drilling through slabs attached to the house, then you do not have to drill interior slabs. This is clearly stated on the product label.

Can I apply Termidor to the wooden second floor of my home which is infested with termites?

Termidor SC should only be applied to the exterior of the structure for termite control. We recommend that after 90 days, you can apply Bora-Care to the wood on the interior of the home. Can you double the strength of Termidor SC when treating for termites?

No, Regardless of what treatment you are doing Termidor SC can only be mixed at .8 fl oz. per gallon of water. Termidor SC is a non-repellent, if you mix at a stronger strength than labeled you run the risk of taking away its non-repellent properties. Always mix at .8 oz to a gallon.

How long does Termidor SC take to kill the colony?
I have carpenter ants coming and going into my house from the yard. And dust, traps and bait crystals don't seem to be working. The only thing that kills on contact is the sprays. I don't want to kill the workers if they are the ones bringing the poison into the nest. But I need to get into the nest to do the killing.

The amount of time it will take Termidor SC to eliminate a colony of ants will depend on how large the colony is the begin with. It could take weeks. Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide that works with a delayed reaction amd also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor SC is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertently carry it back to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor and wipe out the colony.

What if trenching is not possible. Will periodic spraying keep termites at bay?
I realize the 6x6 trenching is the recommended way, but that is not possible in some areas around my house. Only option is periodic spraying the exterior foundation, cracks and crevices.

Termidor SC can only be applied to the top of the soil when you are using it as a perimeter pest control treatment against ants and other pests. If you are using Termidor SC to treat for active termites, or to protect your home against termites, you must apply the product into a trench. This is because termites do not walk across the ground like other insects do, they live beneath the soil and enter your home below the grade level of the dirt. Therefore, you must place the Termidor SC into the ground to have a chance at them coming into contact with the product. Please read our informational article written for homeowners: "How To Do a Termite Treatment" which will tell you how deep to dig the trench and how to properly apply Termidor around your home. If you cannot trench the area you may consider the bait stations as an alternative.

If Termidor is sprayed on untreated wood, does it prevent termites? If so, for how long? What is best way to treat 4"x 4" post with dry wood termites to kill and prevent future infestation?

Termidor SC (fipronil for termites) and Bora-Care will work, but Bora-Care is typically the better one to use for this situation. Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product, so for it to work you have to drill holes EXACTLY where the termites are and it has to touch the termites to work. If you miss where they are, it will not work. Also, Termidor SC does not really have any residual in the wood, so after you treat inside the wood with Termidor SC and it dries, that wood is exposed for future termite and beetle infestations.

Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice if most of the wood is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood. Bora-Care is made only for wood, and you do not have to know exactly where the termites are for it to work which is a plus. Bora-Care is sprayed evenly over all exposed surfaces of the wood and actually penetrates through the entire piece of wood. When the termites in the wood try to consume the wood after it has been treated, they ingest the Bora-Care with the wood and die. No matter where they are in the wood the Bora-Care will find them as long as you treated the exposed wood that you can see. The other main benefit is that Bora-Care stays in the wood forever, so you will not have to worry about termites or beetles infesting the wood that you treated ever again.

Suppose I choose to do my own termite control. What sort of expense would I incur? My home is 1750 sq ft.
My home is built on cinderblock with a crawl space. One company wants to drill holes in my concrete slab garage to put down chemicals. Is this really necessary?

I want to know if termidor SC is safe to use indoors on the ceiling of garage and florida room.
our termite company spot treated all areas found with drywall termites and treated exposed wood members in the garage and florida room where activity was found. it was treated with Termidor SC and Premise foam. I keep seeing the Termidor is only for outdoor use and should not be used indoors. We have a toddler and want to make sure we are safe. thank you.

Termidor can be applied indoors as a spot treatment in wall voids. When applied per label it is safe for spot treatment indoors.

If I apply Termidor SC around the foundation, is there anything to spray between the sheetrock and the exterior walls? Should I have to?

If you do not currently have termite activity, then you only have to treat the outside perimeter of your home. If your home is on a crawl space foundation, there may be a few places that you need to treat under the home. You do not have to treat in the walls unless there is a specific place that you have termite activity already that you know about. If so, then you can apply Termidor SC directly to the area as a spot treatment inside in addtion to all of the perimeter treatment outside. Is Termidor sprayed on the ground around my house effective for termite control?
I've been mixing 1.6 oz per gallon and spraying 2 gallons per 10 linear foot around our home. It's a brick home with concrete foundation.

Spraying Termidor SC topically around your home is an ineffective way to control termites. Termidor SC needs to be applied in a trenching treatment for it to be effective. You have also been applying the product too strongly. You should use .8 fl oz per gallon of water and then use 6 gallons of finished solution per 10 linear feet. Do you have to treat the interior of the garage if there is no activity of subterranean termites in it?
This is in regards to a full treatment at a home structure

A

You can do that if you choose, but it is not as effective as drilling the slab inside the garage. This is because the garage is a separately poured slab, meaning the termites could come from deep underground and come up to the surface under the garage slab, and enter the wall where your door is going into the house untouched. You don't have to drill every wall in the garage, just the walls that are not exterior walls, where you have living space on the other side of the garage wall. So it is a personal choice, but drilling the garage walls is the best way to protect all entry points.

Do you add Termidor to water? How much does a 20 oz. bottle cover?

For Termite or ant control, mix at a rate of .80 fl oz. to each gallon of water. For Termite Control, each 20 oz bottle will make 24 gallons of solution and treats 60 lineal feet of trenching.

Termidor SC can be toxic to Millipedes. When applied per label, Termidor will not harm plants. Be sure to keep all children and pets out of the treated area until dried.

Does Termidor foam work against roaches also?

A

Termidor Foam is not labeled to treat roaches. We recommend using our Roach control kit to treat roaches. Roach Control Kit #2 includes 1 packet of Demon WP Insecticide (which makes 4 gallons of finished solution) for spraying the outside perimeter of the home and inside underneath appliances, behind cabinets, under toilets and sinks, etc. You'll also get 4 x 30 gram tubes of Advion Roach Bait Gel--one of the best roach baits on the market. Advion can be applied up high in the kitchen in the corner of cabinets and in cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms. The bait contains a slow-acting poison that attracts and kills feeding roaches, who also spread the bait to other roaches by contact or by sharing food. Termidor can only be applied 2 times per year due to Label and EPA regulations because Termidor has been shown to leach into the soil and can stay active in the soil for at least 10 years.

Q

The exterminator left some overspray of Termidor SC in our garage. Should I be concerned?
While a professional exterminator was drilling and rodding in our garage along two walls, there were at least two holes where he left the rod on as he pulled it out, and it sprayed up our wall and on some of my tools. I'm calling them back to clean it up, but should I be worried about residue on my walls where my kids might come in contact, and the overspray on tools and a canvas bag that it might not get completely cleaned off of? Thank you.

Termidor SC has a half life of about 6 weeks when sprayed topically. This means that any residual will break down over time and should be gone within about 6 weeks. You should still have the pest control operator thoroughly clean the area as that is what the Termidor SC product label demands when the product has been spilled or sprayed improperly.

Can Termidor be used to treat mold crickets in your yard?
Presently the mole crickets are cutting through roots of the flower plants in the ground.

Termidor is not labeled to treat mole crickets and Termidor is not allowed to be used in the yard at all. For mole crickets we recommend Advion Insect Granules which are specifically labeled for mole crickets.

Yes, Termidor SC will work for Formosan termites. Formosan termites are a species of subterranean termites and Termidor SC is labeled for subterranean termites.
