Do I need to use a certain type of sprayer with Termidor SC?
Can I use Termidor SC with the Chapin 1 Gallon Pump Sprayer (#20000) to spray around the perimeter of my home? Thank you.

A

Any hand pump sprayer will do as long as it is clean and does not have residues from other products you may have used. The Chapin 1 Gal Pump Sprayer model 20000 will do a great job for you.

I have severe allergies and fire ants in my kitchen.
What can I use that will kill the ants and not be harmful to me or my food?

Chances are that the ants are coming from outside and getting inside the kitchen. 99% of the time ants are nesting outside and coming inside for food or water. The best treatment for ants outside is Termidor, hands down. It is sort of a liquid bait when used for ants, and any ants that walk over where you spray pick up the Termidor on their bodies and bring the product back to the colony where they spread it around to all other termites, including the queen, and typically within a few days to a week all of the ants will be dead. Termidor is used around your home like any other pest control product and is applied using a one gallon hand pump sprayer. You should re-apply every 3 months for optimum ant control.

Q

Can I apply Termidor SC direct to the soil with an injector rod at every 8 inches or so?
Where I cannot dig a trench due to various reasons. Would the Termidor work if applied with an injection rod directly into the soil, say every 10 inches and apply a half gallon of solution at those intervals.

Termidor SC is best applied in the trench as this is the most continuous application method. There are places all over the BASF Termidor product label, which clearly state that rodding alone is not sufficient, no matter what applicator tool used, to treat a home for termites. You can either do a 6x6 trench around the foundation, or a 6x6 trench with rodding used additionally every 12 inches through the trench at a depth not to exceed the footing of the home. If you just cannot trench the area you may also consider the bait stations as an alternative. You can also refer to our How To Do A Termite Treatment article for treating your home yourself.

Can Termidor be used to treat termite infested trees? Is it safe for plants/trees?

Termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees. If the tree has been damaged by termites it would be advisable to remove the tree and perform a liquid termite soil treatment. Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Termidor SC? would be the product to use for that. Please take a moment to read over our article on "How to do a Termite Treatment" for complete details. In most cases, termites out in the yard are completely normal and can be left alone. Termidor is only labeled to be used adjacent to structures and when used as directed is safe around plants/trees that are in this area.

What are the best treatment for dry wood termites on stained decks & fencing?

A

Both Termidor SC (fipronil for termites) and Bora-Care will work, but Bora-Care is typically the better one to use for this situation. Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product, so for it to work you have to drill holes EXACTLY where the termites are and it has to touch the termites to work. If you miss where they are, it will not work. Also, Termidor SC does not really have any residual in the wood, so after you treat inside the wood with Termidor SC and it dries, that wood is exposed for future termite and beetle infestations.

Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice if most of the wood is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood. Bora-Care is made only for wood, and you do not have to know exactly where the termites are for it to work which is a plus. Bora-Care is sprayed evenly over all exposed surfaces of the wood and actually penetrates through the entire piece of wood. When the termites in the wood try to consume the wood after it has been treated, they ingest the Bora-Care with the wood and die. No matter where they are in the wood the Bora-Care will find them as long as you treated the exposed wood that you can see. The other main benefit is that Bora-Care stays in the wood forever, so you will not have to worry about termites or beetles infesting the wood that you treated ever again.

If your house has termites should you put Termidor SC all around the house or just where they are found?

If you have termites in your home, we recommend doing the liquid treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article and then inside the home where you know you have the termites you will treat them directly by injecting the Termidor into the wall or cutting a hole into the wall and spraying on the wood or however you can get the product to the termites. It only needs to touch a few termites to work.

Can Termidor be applied over crushed stone?
Our home is surrounded by crushed stone and really can't be trenched. Can we pour the solution over the stone to be effective? Can we also treat our flower beds which have wood mulch and wood boards? We have noticed termites there last year. Thank You.

To effectively apply Termidor as a termite treatment, you would need to remove the stone and then apply termidor in the soil. Termidor is not labeled for use on trees and plants. It is only labeled for use around your homes foundation for termites, ants, and other selected pests. For treating lawn, turf, and ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs that do not contain anything edible, you should Talstar Insecticide.

When I receive Termidor, how do I know how much of the shelf life has already been spent on your end?

Termidor is a high moving item so most bottles dont spend more than 1-2 weeks in our temperature stable warehouse. We are unsure how long it sits from the time it is placed in the bottle before it comes to us, but you can always contact the manufacturer with the code printed on the bottle which will tell them when it was produced. Most of the time it is no more than 6 months from time it is packaged to the time you receive it. If you want to check your batch code, contact BASF at 1-800-526-1072.

Which size hole needs to be drilled for Termidor treatment in slab and why?
I see 3/8 holes around my house already and most houses i've seen have 3/8 also. What is the benifit to a larger hole?

You can apply Termidor SC in a 3/8 or 1/2 inch hole. Either would be the size drill bit that you will use to drill the holes for termite treatments. The benefit of having a larger hole is that the product will be applied quicker in the hole making the solution reach the soil quicker.

How can I tell how old my 20 oz. bottle of Termidor SC is?
These are the only numbers that I can find printed on the bottle other than the standard labeling: 59021467 13 122 3122SL01F1 04782 HOLD to approve

BASF uses a unique set of numbers to match up that product, when it was made, what lot it was a part of and how many were in that lot. Below you will see an example of a Termidor SC bottle and how it is broken down. The batch numbers can vary in location on BASF products from just above the label on a bottle, to the bottom of a container or can, as well as on the sides of case containers or?boxes.

Starting with the first row. The first set of numbers normally starting in 59- ex: 59021467 is BASF's article number for the product.

The second set- ex: 13, indicates the year in which the product was produced. For this can that would mean it was produced in the year 2013

The third set- ex: 122, indicates the numerical day of the year that the product was produced. So it was manufacturer on the 122th day of the year of 2013. This comes out to show it was produced on May 2nd 2013.

The bottom row of numbers indicates the batch information. The first set- ex: 3122SL01F1, indicates the actual batch/lot number for the manufacturer. The second set- ex:04782 indicates the container count of each batch.

I have brick veneer on my house and there is about a 6 to 8 inch gap to the foundation.

You will need to dig one long continuous trench that is 6 inches wide by 6 inches deep right up against the foundation of your home. You will then mark the trench off in 10 ft segments. For every 10 feet of trench you will then apply 4 gallons of diluted Termidor SC. This is how all professional companies apply the product and this is how the product label specifies applying the product. How far apart should I drill holes when drilling a patio slab for termites?
I have a concrete slab patio at the rear of my house. How far apart should I drill holes? Can I just pore the solution in the hole? How far apart should he holes be and how much solution per hole? Thanks!

When performing a termite treatment and treating concrete slabs, the holes should be drilled about 2-3 inches away from the house, and 10 inches apart. Typically a 1/2 inch drill bit is used. You can fill the holes using a funnel or a one gallon hand pump sprayer with the nozzle turned so the sprayer shoots out a pinstream. You are supposed to apply 4 gallons per 10 feet in the drill holes as well as the trench. This is very hard to do. Usually you would just fill the holes and then come back 30 minutes later after the soil beneath the slab has soaked up the product and fill the holes up again. Do this 3 times and then patch the holes or use our Trebor Plugs.

Do you trench on both sides of the foundation for termites with Termidor?
I have subs underneath my house with tubes going up the foundation and 1 post.Can I trench the outside and spot spray the underside/inside the crawl space?

With the superior technology behind Termidor, you only have to trench the outside of the foundation and around each pier/post under the crawlspace. If you were using Dominion 2L you would have to trench the inside and outside wall of the foundation and the piers/posts. You can spot spray in wall voids and you will likely want to drill into the center of the piers as well as doing the trench around them. Everywhere you dig you will follow the method of digging a 6x6 trench and use 4 gallons to every 10 linear feet.

How often do you have to retreat w/ termiticide treatment procedure.

Termite bait systems are not required with Termiticide applications. You can use the bait systems as monitor if you wish. If you apply Termidor SC correctly in a trench, it will last and prevent for up to 10 years.

Will fruit from my fruit trees be safe to eat if I sprayed Termidor SC near them for ant control?
The flowerbeds have fruit trees that are 1-2 ft away from the cinder-block wall. I sprayed termidor SC to the base of the cinder-block wall to get rid of the trail of ants last year. Will my fruits from these fruit trees be safe to eat? I am a little concern now that the termindor solution might seep into the roots of these fruit trees

As long as the Termidor SC application was not applied within the root-zone of the trees the fruit should be safe to eat. Termidor SC does not move through the soil and would not trans-locate anywhere, it would stay exactly where you placed it.

I would like to do the termite treatment with Termidor.
Am I going to need any special equipment / tools for the Termidor application? I heard the termite guy on the local radio who said that if the person who applies the product does not possess a commercial grade mixer, Termidor won't be properly mixed and as a result won't be effective at all. He also suggested that applying Termidor requires a special equipment to apply the solution deep inside the soil. I wanted to make sure that my diy Termidor treatment is going to be effective. Kindly advise on the tools, equipment necessary to complete the procedure. Thank you.

Termite companies do want you to believe that special equipment is needed to do a termite application because of course they want your business. Please take a few minutes to read our article How to Perform a Termite Treatment which will explain how to do the treatment in laymens terms and also explain any needed equipment. Most folks find that they only need a 5 gallon bucket and perhaps a drill in some situations. You should follow the Termidor product label and you should mix Termidor with water as specified. No special equipment is needed to diltute Termidor because it is a water based product and readily mixes with water.

Does the temperature of the water I mix termidor (or any concentrate) matter?
Its probably a dumb question lol but the first time i mixed up some termidor I used the hose that had been sitting in the sun, and the water was just a little past lukewarm. Does it really matter what the temperature of the water is when I mix a pesticide in general? Should it be cold or warm or does it not matter? Thanks!

You are corerect, The temperature is not an issue when mixing most products and most of the time we suggest something along the lines of warm or room temperature water.
