    Q
My Pest Control "expert" says I need a retreatment after only 8-years. Is that true?
I found active termites in my house shortly after I purchased it. I called in a "professional" They "trenched and drenched the outside perimeter and drilled the patio slab, front porch slab and driveway and injected. There was no drilling of the slab on the inside of the house. I have had an annual inspection since the original treatment. 8-years later, he is telling me I have to have a re-treatment in order to preserve the warranty. Sounds fishy to me.
    A
While we cannot comment on the work or word of a professional, one benefit of having a company treat your home is they do provide a warranty.  What that warranty is would need to be asked of the company and any contract they may have had with you.  While Termidor SC can last in the soil for 10 years or more, it does not guarantee you won't have termites for 10 years.  The 10 year applies to the areas that you apply Termidor, it is guaranteed to stay where you put it and protect and last for 10 years. However, no termite treatment can 100% guarantee that you won't have termites because termites can enter your home in places that you cannot treat, like underneath a slab, through a plumbing pipe, or through an area you cannot get the treatment to because it is covered or inaccessible. If any of the soil was disturbed, a retreatment may need to be done.  After your home is built, it is impossible to get to every entry point.  There are always areas you cannot get to which is why you should continue to have a professional company come out every couple of years to do a professional inspection to make sure you have no areas of activity.

    Q
What can I use to spot treat termite activity inside a crawl space?
I saw a few swarmers in there. The area gas a concrete slab. It looks as if they are coming in from the edge of the slab, but I am not 100% sure
    A

To treat a concrete slab, you will come 2-3 inches off the wall and drill holes 10-12 inches apart using an 18in-24in drill bit. Using a 5 gallon bucket, mix 4 gallons of mixed solution (.8 fl oz of Termidor SC per gallon of water) and pour the 4 gallons of mixed solution in the drilled holes for 10 linear feet. Usually each hole will take approx 1/2 gallon of solution. It is easier to use a funnel to pour the solution into the holes. If there is a crawl space at any point, dig a 6x6 inch deep trench around any post or cinder blocks in the crawlspace and pour the Termidor SC mixture into that soil.

    Q
I have a wood frame home with T1-11 Wood Siding (see below).
I am removing the T1-11 (rotten) and replacing with LP SmartSide. When the T1-11 is removed I will have access to the wall studs from the outside. Is it safe and/or a good idea to spray the studs with Termidor SC? I am trying to avoid termites and ants mainly.
    A
Yes, you may spray Termidor SC onto studs inside of a wall void.

    Q
Can we pour Termidor SC in the hole when the post is removed?
We have active termites in a post on our concrete porch.
    A
Yes, you may drench the soil where the termite damaged post has been removed with Termidor SC. However, this will only protect that localized area and would not help protect the rest of your home from termite damage. We would recommend treating the entire perimeter of your home with Termidor SC. Please read over our Termite Treatment Guide for more information regarding protecting your home long term from destructive termites.

Can Termidor be used to treat birch borer (flatbread borer) in living birch trees
    A

    Q
Tomorrow is going to rain, can I apply terminator SC today.
    How long before the rain.
    A
If you are applying Termidor you want to make sure there is not going to be rain for at least 24 hours after application. If you know it is going to rain within that time frame, you should wait until the rain is passed and will be sunny and dry for a day or two. This applies weather you are doing a general spray around the foundation of the home for ants and other insects, or a termite trench treatment.

    Q
I noticed a termite line in between windows of a home. Is Termidor SC a good product to treat this?
It is on the interior of the home where I noticed the lines that look very similar to ant beds. My husband and I own our own business remodeling foreclosed homes and I've seen numerous amount of termites and termite indications before to know what it is. However when I told my grandfather that is what it was and to call a pest control company. The pest control company after looking for maybe 5 minutes on a nearly 2500 sq ft house determined he didn't see any termites and there was no need for worry. However I pointed out to him the spot I first noticed and it's when he said oh this gives me concern and then wanted to have my grandpa pay 1500.00 for a treatment. I said NO! My grandfather assumes I talked the man into saying he has them however I'm positive it is what I saw. So, he's wanting to do a self treatment however we are not sure which product to use considering we are not sure which type of termites he has. Termidor SC or Domininon 2L....please give me your suggestions so we can go from here and purchase. THANKS in advance for your much needed expertise in this matter.
    A
Termidor SC and Dominion 2L are both great options for termite treatments. The main difference between them is that Termidor SC can last up to 10 years in the soil, while Dominion 2L lasts about 5 years. You will still dig a 6 by 6 inch trench around the structure you are treating. You will pour 4 gallons of solution per 10 lineal feet. Also, make sure that you treat the dirt that you dug up as well.

    Q
Can I pre-treat a new house for termites and spiders with Termidor SC?
    A
If you want to pre-treat before the slab is pured to control termites, Termidor SC would be the product of choice. Pre-slab and barrier treatments can last for up to 10 years for subterranean termite control.  For general pest control around the inside of and the outside of the house can be done with Talstar P. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for approximately 30 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests.

    Q
Our whole yard, grass and flower bed and along driveway is filled with little brown ants. We have a dog.
Can I spray the entire yard? Sandy soil.
    A
ermidor SC is not allowed to be used anywhere other than around the foundation of the home 1-2 feet up and 1-2 feet out. It cannot be broadcast across yards or flowerbeds for any type of insect control, especially with sandy soils. If you want an insecticide that can be broadcast across the yard for ant and general insect control we would recommend something like Talstar P. Its a great general and broad use insecticide that you mix at the rate of 1oz per gallon of water.

    Q
I am looking for someting that a wasp would bring back to the nest to distroy it.
I have nesst in the gutters and behind the house siding
    A
Termidor can be sprayed on the home and on the siding where wasp activity has been noticed. Termidor does not give a fast knockdown but it does transfer back to the nest to eliminate the other wasps inside the nest. You should see complete results within 1-3 weeks depedning on the size of the wasp colony when using Termidor.

    Q
How do I get rid of crazy ants?
They are in my yard, starting to get in my home.
    A
Termidor SC is one of the best products known to work on the crazy ant. According to the product label you are only allowed to use Termidor SC once very 6 months for ant control (the only exception to this is for folks dealing with the Raspberry crazy ant of Texas and only in certain counties of Texas. Those folks have received an exemption). You can alternate between products if needed. You can use Termidor SC and then alternate it with Phantom which works very much like the Termidor. By using this method you are staying within the label limits. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Is the Termidor SC properties affected or reduced with the use of another product for fleas and ticks?
I use Termidor for termites and I need some product to kill and control ticks and fleas around the patio and premises where my pets stay. What product do you recommend for those pests in my pets; shampoos, dips, etc.?
    A
Since Termidor is a non-repellant product you would not want to apply anything repellant as it will null that affect.  For flea and tick control outside you can use the Outdoor/Indoor Flea Kit.  This kit contains Onslaught which is a broad spectrum insecticide which can be used as a broadcast spray for both indoor and outdoor infestations. The kit also contains Martins IGR which will help break the breeding cycle of the fleas for long term control.  Both products work great for fleas and ticks.  We do carry several products that are labeled for flea and tick control on pets, you can find them here.  Our most popular product is the PetCor Flea Spray.  Petcor Flea Spray contains Precor IGR, another type of insect growth regulator.

    Q
What is good to spray a large lot for crazy ants, and also spray indoors?
    A
Termidor SC used outdoors and Phantom used indoors have been the most effective products to control Crazy Raspberry Ants. Ant baits and synthetic pyrethroid insecticides do not seem to do an effective job controlling this ant species. Texas A&M University has done extensive research regarding these ants and you can find detailed articles on their extension website. We have linked a specific article about them HERE. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

    Termites in Alder trees
I have termites in my Alder trees in So California. I purchased some Termidor SC from you guys. Should I mix and pour around the base of the infected tree or inject into tree limbs that already have died from termites? Help!
    A
Termidor cannot be used in the manner you have described and is not labeled for use on trees as you described.  Termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees so you most likely will not find any products that will work as a ground barrier around the trees.  Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Termidor would be the product to use for that.  It is only labeled to be used adjacent to the structure though.  Please take a moment to read over our article on "How to do a Termite Treatment" for complete details
