    Q
Can I use Termidor SC against yellow jackets?
I read a study indicating the use of Fipronil in bait was highly successful in the control of German yellow jackets. Would Termidor SC be useful in this manner?
    A
Termidor SC is labeled for yellow jackets. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that also has a transfer effect making it highly effective for social insects like yellow jackets. Termidor SC does have a very limited area it can be applied to, specifically directly on or immediately adjacent to a structure, so it's important that you fully read and follow the instructions on the product label. (Instructions for using Termidor SC for yellow jackets is on the very last page of the instructions)

    Q
What is the advantage of using Termidor SC versus Suspend SC for killing ants?
My husband is insistent on using Termidor for our outside ant problem because someone recommended it and wouldn't even consider Suspend. I wanted to know if it was worth the extra $15.
    A

Suspend SC will only kill the ants that contact a treated surface and would need to be applied every 30 days outside and 90 days inside.  Termidor is the # 1 choice for ant control around the home. Termidor is a non-repellent insecticide that works with a delayed reaction amd also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertently carry it back to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor and wipe out the colony.

Termidor only needs to be applied two times per year and is effective for a wide variety of insects including ants, centipedes, roaches, spiders, silverfish, wasps and many other nuisance insects. You will need to apply Termidor SC 1-2 ft up the foundation and 1-2 ft out onto the ground, around door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires go through the wall and any other crack or crevice where the ants can gain entry into your home.

You cannot use Termidor inside for ant control so Suspend would be the better product if you needed to treat inside.

    Q
I found termite in my bathtub. I have no clue how it got there. How to identify and kill?
When I purchased the home 6 months back, I did termite inspection. No termite found that time. I do not have any termite protection installed. Last week, I found 6 termites found in my bathtub which is located exactly at the center of the house. It is slab house. I do not have any clue from where those termites came to bathtub. Can I install any termite bait inside bathtub drywalls?
    A
The first thing you need to do is get the termites identified to know exactly what kind you have. You may want to have a local company come out and do an inspection to see if they can find any signs of live colonies in the home. If you do have termites, in the home, the bait sytem would not be used in the walls. You would do a spot treatment with a product like Termidor Foam in the walls, or drill through the floor and slab to treat the soil below it with Termidor SC where the termites are coming up through a crack or around a pipe.

    Q
Can Termidor be applied to wet ground if there is no rain prediction?
It has rained a lot in the past few days and the ground is wet. I discovered termites in the mulched area while trying to plant some shrubs. Is it safe to apply Termidor if no rain is predicted for the next 2 days and the ground is still wet?
    A
It is fine to apply Termidor even if the ground is still damp as long as no rain is predicted for a day or two after the application.

    Q
Can I buy Termidor SC & use it myself in San Antonio, Texas?
Our pest control company said they could spray termidor but that it would cost over $400 just to treat the area that we need treated. They also stated I could not purchase this product myself. I will try and see if there is a state law against the general public from purchasing termidor, but I thought I'd ask you since I can buy it from you for cheap.
    A

Termidor SC can be purchased by anyone that does not live in a restricted state and at this time Texas is not a restricted state. In most instances you are allowed to use Termidor SC as long as you are using it on your own property and you are not treating say your neighbors house for profit.

    Q
How long does it take Termidor SC to kill ants in walls?
We purchased a new home a month ago. Noticed ants in an upstairs bedroom. Had Termidor sprayed around the perimeter of the house about three weeks ago. I keep finding 10-30 dead or dying ants in this same bedroom, around the window and along the baseboard. I'm glad they seem to be dying, but how long will it take for them to disappear altogether? I cannot find any trails coming up the house foundation so not sure where they're coming from. Help please!!
    A

Once Termidor SC is applied it can take up to a month or 6 weeks depending on ant species and size of the colony. As long as you are seeing dead ants the product is working. Should you start to see live ants again then there may possibly be a satellite colony in a wall void that needs to be spot treated or baited.

    Q
Can I use bleach to pressure wash my house after a Termidor Treatment for carpenter ants or termites?
    A

If you pressure wash over the areas where you have applied the Termidor, you will remove all of the product from the exterior and by extension stop from the product from being effective. You should only pressure wash the exterior if you have experienced complete results from using Termidor and do not need the product in place any longer.

My yard has lost all wildlife using Termidor for short time 50 there with velsicol the yard swarmed with ground and tre squirrels, moles, blackbirds, now nothing
    A

Termidor SC should only be used as a perimeter treatment around your home. If Termidor SC was broadcast across the lawn, there are likely no insects so there is nothing for the wildlife to eat. Be sure to follow the label when using products such as Termidor SC.

    Q
How long does it take Termidor to kill ants?
By this I mean THE ant which contacted it, not the colony.
    A
There are many variables that can change how long a product takes to kill an ant such as health and age of the ant, how long the product has been in place, how much of the product the ant got on it, etc. In general it can take any where from 1 day to around a week for the ant to die.

    Q
Is Termidor SC harmful to landscaped plants when used as a perimeter treatment for ants?
    A
Termidor SC should have no effect on plants that are inadvertently sprayed with the product. It is important to read and follow the Termidor SC product label which states that you can only treat one foot up from and one foot out from where the ground meets the structure. The label also recommends that you remove or prune away plants, shrubs or tree branches that touch the structure. Vegetation that comes into contact with the structure may offer a route of entry for the ants allowing them to enter the structure without ever having come into contact with the treated area.

    Q
How long can you keep Termidor SC mixed in a gallon spray container and still be viable?
A friend gave me a sprayer with Termidor SC already mixed up to spray for ants around the base of my house and I haven't used it yet. It has been mixed for about 6 weeks. How long will the solution be viable once mixed with water?
    A
The manufacturer of Termidor SC recommends that you use the diluted solution within 24 hours. The longer the product sits in a solution the less effective it will become. Also, leaving chemicals or even just plain water in a hand pump sprayer can cause the seals and gaskets to breakdown. This will eventually require you to purchase a repair kit for the sprayer or even a whole new sprayer much faster than someone that had properly maintained their sprayer.

    Q
    Effective life of Termidor SC
How is it that Termidor can last for decades in the soil around your foundation, but only a month in the inside of the wall cavity of your home? I could see how UV's might destroy topical treatments outdoors, but how so in wall cavities? Is it not suitable for spraying in-wall around plumbing penetrations? And if so, only active for a month?
    A
Termidor is made specifically to bond to soil in a way that allows it to last for 10+ years when applied to soil.  It is not however made to bond to wood or other surfaces.  While the residual may last for a few months when applied in wall voids, wood does not obviously have the chemical make up like dirt that the termidor product is looking for.  This allows it to break down quicker.  Termidor is meant just as  spot treatment where you have termite activity indoors.  Also, there is a big difference when you pour 4 gallons per 10 feet into a 6 inch deep trench around your home compared to spraying a small amount in a wall void.

In most cases, termites out in the yard are completely normal and can be left alone. If you do not have an up-to-date termite barrier around your home you can apply a product such as Termidor SC to prevent any termites from moving. Q
Coverage Rate for Ant Control with Termidor?
For termite control the information mentions that one bottle will provide about 60 linear feet of coverage. But it does not say how much coverage will be provided for doing perimeter spraying for Ant Control. If Ant control also takes 4 bottles for average sized houses, this product will actually come out more expensive than professional services.
    A
Termite treatment is completely different than ant control.  Since termites enter the house from underground, Termidor has to be applied into the ground by digging trenches and applying at the rate of 4 gallons per 10 feet.  It is a lot of work and this is why termite companies charge over $1000 or more to treat a house.  When treating for ants, you only have to spray around the perimeter of the house like any other pest control spray using a hand pump sprayer.  One bottle of Termidor will make 25 gallons.  You usually only need 1 or 2 gallons to treat the outside perimeter of your home every 3 to 4 months.  So 1 bottle of Termidor will easily last you  for 2 years worth of treating....much less than a professional service for 2 years.  You mix .8 ounces per gallon of water (there is a convenient measuring device built into the bottle for easy measuring) and spray around the foundation of your home 1 foot up onto the foundation and 1 foot out onto the ground.  One application typically lasts for 3 to 4 months.  Simple as that.
