Termidor SC is only labeled for application right up against a structure and is not labeled to treat fire ant mounds. We do carry Extinguish Plus Fire for fire ants.
One 20 oz. bottle of Termidor SC will cover 60 linear feet of trenching.
Termidor SC can be shipped to homeowners in California for applying as directed to their own property without having a license. You will need a license issued by the state if you plan to treat a property that you do not own or for profit.
Termidor SC is used for both termite prevention as well as ant control. The termite prevention requires the trenching and rodding, and is done once every 10 years. When using it for ant control, you would spray 1 foot up the side of the structure and 1 foot out into the soil, all the way around the perimeter of the structure, along with around doors and windows. This can be done according the following label instructions:
Everywhere you dig you will follow the method of digging a 6x6 trench and use 4 gallons of Termidor SC solution for every 10 linear feet of trenching.
The Termidor SC product label states that you cannot use Termidor SC closer than 5 feet from a well or cistern. The amount of product you will need will be dependent on the total linear footage you’re treating. One 20 ounce bottle will treat approximate 60 linear feet of trenching.
Termidor SC comes in a 20 ounce bottle, as well as the generic equivalent of Taurus SC. Both products contain the same amount of active ingredients and are used the same way. Both will bond to the soil for up to 10 years when used as a termite trenching solution.
Termidor SC cannot be mixed with paint to deter termites. It would be best applied in trench around the home for termite prevention. We have a step by step guide that will walk you through how to do your own termite trenching treatment. You can see the guide by clicking on the link here. For treating wood before you paint you would use something like Timbor or Boracare which penetrate into the wood and last for the life of the wood. Once the surface is dry after application you can then paint.
The only temperature that effects Termidor SC is when it is below freezing. Termidor SC should not be applied if the ground is below freezing, or it will not take hold
When drilling holes for application of Termidor, you will need to come out 2-3 inches from the foundation and drill holes every 12" into the concrete along the foundation wall.
Termidor SC is labeled for spiders, but it can only be sprayed one foot up and one foot out around the exterior of a structure. A better option would be our Spider Control Kit. This kit contains the products you need to prevent or eliminate spider activity in and around your home. Using the three products in this kit after a thorough inspection of the target area will lead to a successful spider treatment program.
This kit contains liquid insecticide in easy-to-use single dose bottles. The included CB-80 is a ready-to-use aerosol insecticide that kills spiders and insects quickly on contact. Finally, Catchmaster 100i Insect Monitors trap spiders and insects to help identify which pests are present and to monitor your treatment.Termidor SC can stay in the ground for at least 10 years. We still do not recommend that you consume any edibles that have grown in the treated area.
When appling Termidor SC into drilled holes in concrete, we would recommend using a 5 gallon bucket to mix 4 gallons of mixture (3.2 fl oz per 4 gallons of water/10 ft of drilled holes), and then using funnels for pouring in drilled holes (12” apart) evenly.
Termidor SC is rainfast after 6 hours. We would recommend waiting 24 hours before hosing off the concrete areas where it was applied to ensure maximum efficacy.
Termidor SC should not be applied if the ground is below freezing, or it will not take hold. Also, as long as Termidor SC has time to dry and bind with the soil, the rain will not affect it. It is best to wait until you have a few days of no rain in the forecast so there is at least 24 - 36 hours time after you treat before it rains. After that it will hold quite well to rain and weather.
Termidor SC can be used to directly spot treat an active infestation under a tub or to treat any soil you can reach in that area.
Termidor SC is the # 1 choice for ant control around the outside of your home. Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide that also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor SC is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertantly carry it back to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor SC and wipe out the colony. Termidor SC only needs to be applied two times per year and is effective for a wide variety of insects including ants, centipedes, roaches, spiders, silverfish, wasps and many other nuisance insects.
When it comes to indoor ants, there are many different types of ants, you can check out our Ant Control Guide for information on identifying the particular ants you're dealing with, along with information on treatment and prevention. For treatment of most indoor ants, we would recommend our Indoor Ant Control Kit.
Termidor SC is not known to leech through the soil. You will need to follow the Termidor SC product label which has specific instructions for treating near a well to avoid any contamination issues:
TREATMENT AROUND WELLS OR CISTERNS: Do not contaminate wells or cisterns.
Structures With Wells/Cisterns Inside Foundations: Structures that contain wells or cisterns within the foundation of a structure can only be treated using the following techniques:
1. Do not apply within 5 feet of any well or cistern by rodding and/or trenching or by the backfill method. Treat soil between 5 and 10 feet from the well or cistern by the backfill method only. Treatment of soil adjacent to water pipes within 3 feet of grade should only be done by the backfill method.
a) Trench and remove soil to be treated onto heavy plastic sheeting or similar material or into a wheelbarrow.
b) Treat the soil at the rate of 4 gallons of solution per 10 linear feet per foot of depth of the trench, or 1 gallon per 1.0 cubic feet of soil. Mix thoroughly into the soil taking care to contain the liquid and prevent runoff or spillage.
c) After the treated soil has absorbed the solution, replace the soil into the trench.
Structures With Adjacent Wells/Cisterns and/or Other Water Bodies: Applicators must inspect all structures with nearby water sources such as wells, cisterns, surface ponds, streams, and other bodies of water and evaluate, at a minimum, the treatment recommendations listed below prior to making an application.
1. Prior to treatment, if feasible, expose the water pipes) coming from the well to the structure, if the pipes) enter the structure within 3 feet of grade.
2. Prior to treatment applicators are advised to take precautions to limit the risk of applying the termiticide into subsurface drains that could empty into any bodies of water. These precautions include evaluating whether application of the termiticide to the top of the footer may result in contamination of the subsurface drain. Factors such as depth to the drain system and soil type and degree of compaction should be taken into account in determining the depth of treatment.
3. When appropriate (i.e., on the water side of the structure), the treated backfill technique (described above) can also be used to minimize off-site movement of termiticide.
Termidor SC is the top termite product on the market for treatment and prevention.Termidor SC is completely undetectable by subterranean termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony and it will last for about 10 years in the soil. You should perform a liquid termite treatment in the ground to get the termites where they are entering your house and for furture prevention. Please take a few moments to review our article and videos on How to Get Rid of Termites prior to treating.
Termidor SC would only be applied inside if using to spot treat an active infestation per the product label. It cannot be used for prevention inside.
