Just about any 1 gallon pump sprayer will do. We prefer the Chapin Premier 1 Gallon Pump Sprayer 21210XP because of the brass construction in the shutoff valve, wand, and nozzle. The nozzle is adjustable and using the pin stream spray would allow you to spray through a hole in the wall. All of the parts are replaceable when they wear out and when cared for properly will last for many years. You may want to look over our How To Do A Termite Treatment article to learn how you can protect the rest of your home against termites in the future.
Termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees so you most likely will not find any products that will work as a ground barrier around the trees. Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Termidor SC would be the product to use for that. It is only labeled to be used adjacent to the structure though. Please take a moment to read over our article on "How to do a Termite Treatment" for complete details.
We recommend trenching with Termidor SC because it binds to the soil and creates a continuous barrier. Most members of termite colonies remain hidden and there are often multiple colonies, so if you only treat one area where you visibly see them, there is no way to ensure that all the termites will encounter the amount of Fipronil needed to eliminate a colony. While Termidor does have a transfer effect, the idea is to create a barrier and as the termites travel through the treatment, they will absorb enough of the active chemical used in the treatment and then die.
To treat areas with Termidor SC that have a soil to foundation interruption such as a patio, you would drill holes in the patio using a ½ diameter concrete drill bit that is 18-24 inches long. The holes will be drilled every 12 inches and filled at a rate of 4 gallons of finished solution every 10 feet, just like you were doing in the trench.
Termidor SC does not bond to mulch the same way it bonds to the soil. When applied to the soil per label instructions, it will bond with the soil to remain effective for up to 10 years.
Everywhere you dig you will follow the method of digging a 6x6 trench and use 4 gallons of Termidor SC solution for every 10 linear feet of trenching.
Termidor SC is not labeled for fleas and it is also not labeled for use in a lawn so it is not what we recommend for outdoor flea control. Suspend SC is labeled for fleas and for indoor use, but it is not the best choice for indoor flea control because you can not broadcast spray it over carpeted areas. We recommend you use our Outdoor/Indoor Flea Kit to get rid of fleas in and around your home.
