My lawn was professionally treated for Bermudagrass (3 applications) this year. After the second treatment my Redbud, Ash and Silver Maple trees all began to look bad. the leaves were limp, changing color and then lost their leaves. I increased water a short distance from their trunks, hoping the added water would relieve them. However, last year due to draught conditions for about 4-6 weeks (June-July) the tree roots grew near the surface of the ground and migrated to the lawn area that is well watered. Would the Pylex treatment affect the trees? Is there anything I can do to help them recover? My lawn will be undergoing more treatments for the next two years (total of 8 treatments). I'm hoping at the end of the treatments the Bermudagrass will be eradicated, needing just an occasional spot spray thereafter. It's interesting that the treatment does not seem to touch the spotted spurge that I have an abundance of. Is there any literature written stating what plants & weeds are affected and how to prevent and/or protect desirable plants? thank you for any advise you can give me.
Per the product label, do not apply Pylex Herbicide to exposed feeder roots of trees or ornamentals or within the dripline of trees and other ornamental species. Also according to the label, bermudagrass is marginally tolerant to Pylex and some turf injury can be expected. Unfortunately, Pylex is not labeled to help control spurge but you can see if SpeedZone Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate is safe on your turf grass, it is labeled to help control spurge. You can review the label of each product to see the listed tolerant grasses as well as the weeds that can be controlled with either product.
