    Q
Can I place Nuvan strips in a plastic bag with clothing, then wash and wear clothing?
I rent my apartment and do not own my own washing machine or dryer. I am afraid to wear most of my clothing because of a bedbug infestation in my bedroom. I read about the application where household item and stuffed animals can be bagged for 2-4 weeks. I read under the first aid measure instructions for skin irritants that exposed clothing should be washed before reuse. Given the a fore mentioned information, I was wondering if I can bag the items with the strips then wash the items?
    A
You can bag clothes with a nuvan strip and then wear them once washed, that is not a problem.  However, it is worth mentioning that even without placing your clothes in a bag with a nuvan stip for 2 to 4 weeks, anything that will go in a dryer for about 15 minutes on even low heat will kill all stages of bed bugs instantly.  So if you are going to wash them anyways and you didn't want to wait for 2 weeks before wearing something, you could wash and dry it and be assured there were no bed bugs when it came out of the dryer.

    Q
If I use one Nuvan strip in an 10 by 7 storage space, will the other strips in the package stay good?
Or will they all offgas continually (not good since where will I be able to store the remaining strips?) and be less effective as time goes by? Is there a protective packaging that will keep the gas inactive until I open it?
    A
The Nuvan ProStrips come in a thick foil zipper pouch that will keep the strips sealed and inactive until you are ready to use them.

    Q
Can I reuse the same Nuvan Prostrip?
I plan to use Nuvan Prostrips to treat items that can't be laundered or washed easily. I know that the strips last for up to 4 months, and I know that to treat items, they should be exposed to the strips in a sealed 2 mil bag or duct-taped plastic container for 2-4 weeks. I would like to know if, after the 2-4 weeks, I can put new items to be treated in the same bag or container with the same strip (using it a 2nd and 3rd time, etc.) until 4 months has passed. Thank you.
    A
You can alternate the objects in the closed bag or bin and keep using the same Nuvan strip for up to 4 months.

    Q
I ordered the bed bug kit. What is the best way to treat books and shoes for bed bugs?
    A
There are a couple of different ways to treat books and shoes. Heat treatments work quite well. Shoes and some books can be placed on the rack in your dryer for about an hour or so on high heat. This will kill the bedbugs and their eggs. You can also place books and shoes in large trash bags or rubber tubs that have a top with Nuvan Prostrips. Nuvan Prostrips utilize controlled release technology to slowly diffuse a deep penetrating vapor in enclosed spaces. The clean, odorless vapor is evenly distributed throughout the enclosed treatment area, killing visible and hidden insects on contact and preventing new insect infestations

    Q
Where can the Nuvan Prostrips can be used?
Can it be used in bedrooms? How does it work? If it is put in the bathroom would it kill any bed bugs that are in other parts of the apt or just the bathroom?
    A
Nuvan Prostrips utilize controlled release technology to slowly diffuse a deep penetrating vapor in enclosed spaces for up to 4 months. The clean, odorless vapor is evenly distributed throughout the enclosed treatment area, killing visible and hidden insects on contact and preventing new insect infestations. Nuvan Prostrips can only be used in small enclosed areas such as closets (no air vents can be present), cupboards, boxes, bags or small storage areas. Nuvan Prostrips would not be appropriate for treating a bathroom. You would need to use bedbug sprays and dusts to properly treat a bathroom that may be infested. Please refer to our Bed Bug Kits for the appropriate products to treat a bedbug infestation.

    Q
If you are treating a closet or cupboard should you avoid opening it?
I'd like to treat a storage closet, my walk in, and a small coat size closet. Should I seal them up and avoid opening for a length of time? I can remove enough to survive until it is safe. I want to treat for long enough to be effective.
    A
You want to allow the vapors in an enclosed area to build up to a level that will be lethal to the insects that your are trying to eliminate. Opening and closing the doors to these enclosed spaces may result in poor efficacy. Depending on the insect you are trying to eliminate and the amount of things in the space you will most likely need to keep the Nuvan strips in place for about 2-4 weeks. It is best to make sure things are loosely packed into the areas to insure that the vapors can adequately circulate through the items that need to be treated.

Will it work on a tv in a trash bag?
If I put my flat screen tv in a heavy duty trash bag with the strips will it work and how many strips would I need to put in there?
    A
Nuvan Prostrips are being used for bed bugs and other pests in a number of different situations. One use of the product is to take any infested equipment, radios, bags, books or even a television and place them in a large trash bag.  Put just one Nuvan Strip in the bag and leave the items enclosed for about 1-2 weeks.

    Q
Is it okay to cut Nuvan strips in half and use in a small box?
We have a lot of boxes and bags to treat as my son has a lot of electronics, etc. in his room. We're wondering if we can stretch our dollar by cutting strips and putting them in the smaller boxes we are usung. Thanks.
    A

The manufacturer of the Nuvan ProStrips advises against cutting the strips. We recommend that you do not overly pack bags/containers/totes too full with belongings so that the vapors can work around the items effectively. The bags can use a strip but must be tied to enclose the strip for effectiveness. You can apply a strip one per 100-200 cubic feet of space for 2 weeks to 4 months depending on the targeted pest.

    Q
Can you wear clothing (items that cannot be washed or dryed) after they have been treated with Nuvan ProStrips
I want to put the Nuvan ProStrips in my closets where my clothing is but most of the items cannot be washed or dryed in a clothes dryer. Can you wear the clothing after it has been treated without dry cleaning them since they cannot be washed. Is it safe to wear the clothes without washing, drying or dry cleaning them first?
    A
You do not have to wash clothing or other items that have been in a bag or bin with Nuvan strips. You should air the clothing out a for a few days prior to wearing it. You should also note that most dry cleaners agree that even though dry clean only clothing cannot be washed it can go through the dryer (do not wet clothing first) on med high heat to kill the bedbugs and bedbug eggs without harming the clothing.

Using Nuvan ProStrips on Stuffed animals and electronics
Is this safe to put in a plastic bag with some stuffed animals that can not be washed and dried on high and hot? Also is it safe for electronics? Also we have 1 tv 56 inches and can not be in a bag but is at a storage unit. If i hang some of these up near tv but not in air tight space will it work?
    A
Yes, Nuvan ProStrips are made for those items you cannot wash or treat with pesticides.  They are perfect for stuffed animals and electronics.  For larger items you can place nuvan strips (1 strip per 200 cubic feet) in a closet or storage unit.  Typically the items you are treating would need to be enclosed for at least two weeks to ensure elimination of bugs.

    Q
Would it be safe to put a nuvan strip inside of a rubbermaid storage container (the 50 gal), tape the seams of the container, and then place it inside of our bedroom closet?
We keep the door to the closet closed since our clothes aren't in there anymore. Should we tape around the closet door as well as the tote, or just move the container to the basement? We have a pet that lives full time in our room, and I want to be sure that nothing we do to get rid ourselves of these pests will harm her.
    A
You can indeed safely use the Nuvan strips in the rubbermaid container the way you described without any issues for your pet or yourself.

What is the minimum amount of time required to seal up things with Nuvan strips to kill bed bugs?
    A
It really does depend on what you are treating. Some items require at least 2 weeks while others may require up to one month. Remember to loosely pack items into tubs or bags for treatment as the Nuvan Prostrip vapors need to be able to reach all areas to work.

Nuvan Prostrips should only be used to treat items in small confined areas such as storage boxes, closets, cupboards or sealed bags. Do not use Nuvan Prostrips in open areas such as bedrooms or other living spaces. Please take a few minutes to read through the Nuvan Prostrips product label.

    Q
Do the Nuvan Strips work well for bedbugs on electronics and shoes/clothing?
We have an infestation of bed bugs in my apartment. My laptop got infested; I put it inside a bin with a Nuvan strip. Will shoes get damaged if I do the same?
    A

Nuvan ProStrips do work well to kill any insects including bedbugs within electronics or items you can't put in a dryer or treat with chemicals like shoes, books, etc. You would need to put the strip in with the item and leave it in an air tight container completely sealed for 2-4 weeks to kill anything within it. It will not harm anything you have in the container but the manufacturer does suggest if you have any leather clothing to keep the strip off the fabric directly and to lay it on something else within the container.

    Q
Can Nuvan ProStrips be used in a car?
My parking space is outside between two other cars. If I put Nuvan Strips in my car for 72 hours and don't drive it, is it safe for the other cars? Also, it is right below the window of another apartment.
    A

Technically, yes, if applied according to the label instructions, Nuvan ProStrips can be used in a car (with all windows and doors fully closed) without posing any risk to nearby cars or buildings.  However, 72 hours is not enough time to do a complete treatment.  Nuvan strips must be kept in an enclosed space for a minimum of 2 weeks in order to be effective.

    Q
Do Nuvan ProStrips treat book pages themselves?
I noticed you said Nuvan strips would not kill bed bugs in the pages of books. So what can I do? It says it's effective on books yet if it doesn't penetrate the pages then why bother. Are you saying I should just throw all books away.
    A

Nuvan ProStrips will treat all parts of anything that are contained with the sealed container they are placed in. That would include the pages of books.

    Q
Can I use Nuvan ProStrips to treat vinyl records for a bed bug infestation?
I have a collection of about 200 vinyl records that I need to treat for a bedbug infestation. Can I put them in a sealed thick plastic container to be treated with Nuvan ProStrips, the same way I would treat books or shoes? Will the ProStrips damage the records? And would I need to remove the records from their cardboard and plastic sleeves, or can they just be treated as is? Thank you!
    A
Yes, you can put the Nuvan Prostrips in the bag with the vinyl records inside of the plastic encasement. Per the manufacturer, it will not damage the records. You will need to leave them in for at least 72 hours. We would recommend leaving them in their sleeves inside the bag. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
I have a black carpet beetle infestation in my drop ceiling in the basement. What is the safest product to use?
I have two small children and a cat. I had a pest control company come out for six months, and I do not see any less activity. What is the best and safest product to use in a drop ceiling. I have central air in my home, and I do not want it to circulate through the air for the kids to inhale. Any help and advice would be appreciated.
    A
We would not recommend using any more insecticide spray products. Instead, we recommend you find the source of the carpet beetle infestation. It is the source of the problem that you need to discover and eliminate, rather than the adult insects you see wandering around. Until you find out what that is and deal with it, you will continue to get more of the carpet beetles emerging from hiding. Carpets beetles may be as likely to feed on grain based food materials as they are on animal byproducts. Pet foods stored in forgotten places, baking goods left too long in the cupboard, rodent baits tossed in the attic - all of these are quite susceptible to carpet beetle feeding. Plus, you also have the typical carpet beetle diets of dead insects (wasp nests in the attic, dead insects in window sills), feathers (bird nests, dead birds), hair (dead rodents, wool products, trophy mounts), and other things made from animal byproducts. The only other product that may work in your situation is the Nuvan Pro Strips. Nuvan Pro Strips slowly release an insecticide vapor into enclosed areas over a period of 3-4 months offering control of crawling, flying insects.
