Why use a box spring ecnasement for bed bug control?
Bed Bug boxspring encasements and mattress encasements are a recommended addition to any bed bug treatment program. You will still need to treat infested areas of the bedrooms. However, because the #1 breeding ground for bed bugs is the mattress and boxspring, you can now just spray and then zip up these critical areas which will eliminate a large part of the infestation. In addition, this can save an infested boxspring so you don't have to throw it out and buy a replacement. Any eggs and/or bed bugs trapped in the encasement will eventually die. Boxspring encasements and mattress encasements are also nice because they provide very few if any places for bed bugs to hide and harbor (compare that with all of the folds, seams, nooks and crannies of a mattress and box spring), and they are clean and white making future investigation and treatment easy. Also consider that if you should find bed bugs on your mattress again at some point in the future, treatment would be as easy as taking off the mattress encasement and washing it in warm water. Again, the key harborage areas for bed bugs would be protected, and so would your mattress investment.

We recommend spraying an infested boxspring with bed bug control products first before encasing it and then keeping the encasement intact for at least 12 months (bed bugs can live a very long time without a blood meal). The bed bugs and eggs inside will die, and the box spring will be protected from further infestation.

    Protect-A-Bed Box Spring

    By Monique on 08/02/2010

    Verified Purchase

These are a must for box springs and also for mattresses. We had a bed bug problem and after spraying we put these on and haven't had a problem in the bed area since, this is a great product and a must if you live in New York City. Easily fit the box spring, we actually have 2 on the box spring since we have cats and they scratch at the bed, this way if they break through the first one we still have protection.

    So so

    By Melissa on 11/17/2010

We had a bed bug infestation and we treated and bought the box spring encasement and the mattress protector. My main problem with the product is that it gets holes in it too easily which obviously makes the product useless. Good product but needs to be way stronger.

    Review Protect-A-Bed Box Spring Cover

    By Bee on 09/08/2011

nice overall, this non-stretching model does tear very easily though. It is fairly quiet. It definitely needs felt or soft thick foam underneath it so that it won't move around and tear. I wish I would have bought one w/fabric that stretches. It does do its job though, for sure!!!

    BOX NA QUEEN ENCASEMENTS

    By Donna on 05/17/2016

THE ENCASEMENT WAS THE RIGHT SIZE AND SOFT TO TOUVH BUT THE PLASTIC ZIPPER AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME SPLIT OPEN LEAVING THE MATTRESS COMPROMISED. I WOULD SUGGEST A BETTER TYPE OF ZIPPER.

Sort Questions
Q
Can I buy two box spring covers and use one for my actual mattress?
A
Technically you could, but the box spring cover is made from a completely different material and is not meant for use on the mattress.  Box spring covers are not water-proof or bite proof and the material is not quite as durable as the mattress cover. We would not recommend using abox spring cover on a mattress.

A
The Protect-A-Bed Box springs covers are made of 100% polyester.  The mattress encasements are a cotton/polyester blend.

Q
Can I put a fitted sheet over my box spring encasement to protect it?
A
You can put a sheet over the box spring cover, but it may make it harder to inspect the box spring. We recommend just putting felt strips (or pieces of duct tape) over the metal railings to protect the box spring cover from any sharp edges.

Q
My box spring is 10" high x 60 x 80. Will the Queen size Protect-A-Bed Box spring cover fit?
A
Yes, the Protect-A-Bed box spring covers are made to stretch and will fit a 10" high box spring. You should follow the instructions and use two people to pull the cover onto the box spring evenly to prevent tearing.

Q
Will the standard Queen box spring encasement work for my 5 1/2 inch box spring?

Is there any other product that would be more snug for the box spring?

A
Protect-A-Bed does not make the 1/2 size box spring cover as there has not been a great demand for them. We did speak to one of the Protect-A-Bed representatives, and they did assure us that the standard Queen box spring encasement would work just fine.
