How much water you will use to apply a pre-emergent herbicide like Ikes Sandbur and Crabgrass Preventer is not as important as using the correct amount of herbicide. The water is acting as the carrier. This is going to be watered into the soil to be activated as well. Depending on your turf type, you can use 1.1 to 1.6 fl oz per 1000 sq ft for most applications or 3.1 - 4.2 pints per acre.
