Amount of water needed for soil injection

Hi, the rates of water differ when using the soil injection method. If I am treating a 30" ash tree for EAB and need .8 oz per inch DBH that means I need 24 ounces of product. I have a 1 gallon reservoir on my soil injector. The label says I need a few gallons of water. Will this affect the uptake if I only use the 1 gallon reservoir with the 24 ounces of product and the rest water? Thanks

Answer:

There is a chart for treating larger trees with Zylam Liquid Systemic Insecticide on the full product label. For trees that are 30 inches in diameter at breast height, the recommended rate is 12-24 oz of Zylam Insecticide in 7.5 gallons of water. Keep in mind that you should be applying the same amount of product in each hole around the tree. One option you may consider is dividing the Zylam into 7-8 gallons of solution instead of mixing all the Zylam into 1 gallon of water. This will provide better uptake of the insecticide into the tree than trying to use 1 gallon of water to treat around a tree that large.
