Bacillus thuringiensis is a naturally occurring bacteria found in soils throughout the world, in the gut of caterpillars, moths, butterflies, and on the surface of plants. It has been commonly used as an active ingredient in pesticides like Dipel and Thuricide.
In 1995 the EPA approved potato plants producing Bt toxin as safe. It was the first time the US approved a pesticide producing crop.
A all-natural and non-toxic insecticide for leaf-chewing worms and caterpillars on fruits, vegetables, plants and shade trees.
Target Pests
Bacillus thuringiensis is very effective against leaf and needle-feeding caterpillars, fly larvae, mosquitoes, and leaf beetle larvae.
Bt Uses
Bacillus thuringiensis is most commonly used as a liquid spray on crops, where it is then ingested by target pests such as caterpillars on vegetable crops. It can also be used in home gardens. Bt is also used widely as a larvicide for mosquitoes and is considered a very natural and environmentally friendly method of mosquito control.
Bt Toxicity
Bacillus thuringiensis as a pesticide is known for being very friendly to our environment. It currently has little or no known adverse effects on humans, birds, fish, or water supplies.
