No insecticide or fire ant bait will provide year-long control of fire ants. Treatments should begin at the first sign of fire ants and continue throughout high-activity months.
Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules will control fire ants for 30 days. The longest residual insecticide granule for fire ants is Talstar XTRA which has a residual of 2-3 months. These products can be applied a mound applications or broadcast over the lawn.
Baiting for fire ants is only effective when they are foraging (looking for food). If they are not foraging for food, baiting will not be successful.
Please review our Fire Ant Treatment Guide and Fire Ant Prevention Guide for more information.
Bifen L/P granules need to be applied to the ground via a spreader designed for granule distribution on the ground at a set spreader setting rate. Bifen I/T concenteate spray cannot be used in any type of cold ULV or propane/thermal fogger device. It can however be used in hand pump and backpack tank sprayers, including ones such as the Stihl Mist Blowers or the Maruyama Mist Blower we carry for example.
Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules are not going to be labeled for any sort of flying insects. No-see-ums are considered gnats on the labels. You may consider using Bifen IT instead.
Between Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules and Demand G Granules, we would recommend Demand G because it is labeled to help control springtails. Springtails are an indication of a moisture issue, so their abundance means there is a moisture problem that needs correcting. You will not be able to reduce the numbers of this pest successfully until you have addressed and corrected the moisture issue that is allowing them to flourish. We recommend reading over our Springtail Control Guide for more tips and information that may fit your needs.
Bifen Granules are not labeled for spider mites.
Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules can be put down before rain.
Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules is not labeled for noseeums, gnats, or any other kind of flying insect. You would need to purchase the liquid version, Bifen IT, to control them.
Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo, and since the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag we are unsure what the exact setting would be. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, there isn't a master list that exists. You may want to try calling the manufacturer of your spreader or the chemical itself directly, to see if anyone on their staff has that info. Otherwise, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on how to accomplish this below.

The SDS sheet does not have the size of the granular. We would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer Control Solutions: 281.892.2500. Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules can help with general pest control but you can use Talstar P to mound drench for fire ants and treat for fleas and flies as well as many other pests. If the fire ants are actively looking for food then you can use Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait, which can be used in areas where companion animals are active. For flies, we also recommend using a trap like Flies Be Gone and/or Fly Bait in fly bait stations. We have a guide for Fly Control, Flea Control as well as Fire Ant Control. We recommend keeping your pets out of the area while you make any application and let them all completely dry before you let them back outside.
Bifen L/P Insecticide Granules are safe for people, and pets when used as directed and once the product has dried completely in the treated area. Once the product has had time to completely dry, it is safe to resume normal activity. For more information on health and safety, you may contact the manufacturer at -866-897-8050. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions before use.

We apologize, but we don't have the exact spreader setting for your model spreader. The easiest way to determine the correct setting to apply Bifen Granules is as follows: If you need to use 3lbs of product per 1,000 sq ft you would add 3 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft). If you have product left, your setting is too low. If you run out of product, your setting is too high. We have a calibration video here or you can consult with the manufacturer of the spreader for details on the setting.
Bifen Granules is not labeled to kill Staghorn Beetles.

Talstar works well for both the mature and the immature spider mites. It provides optimal spider mite control when applied during spring to mid-summer. Higher application rates and/or more frequent treatments may be required for acceptable spider mite control during mid to late-summer. The addition of a surfactant or horticultural oil may increase the effectiveness of Talstar. Talstar applications may be rotated with other products that have different modes of action in control programs that are designed to manage resistance by two-spotted spider mites. Avid 0.15 Miticide is another product that can be used for spider mites. Mix with water and apply as a foliar spray to obtain uniform coverage. For mites, apply when mites first appear and repeat as necessary to maintain control. Consult your local Cooperative Extension Service for resistance management recommendations in your region.
We also like to let our customers know that the Cicada Killer wasps are beneficial insects that provide free pest control for a couple of months each year. Cicada killer wasps paralyze and provision their burrows with other insects to feed their young. The beneficial Cicada killer wasps, while large and intimidating to see, are mostly harmless and there have been very few reports of anyone getting stung by just being near them. In most cases where a sting was reported, the wasps were being held or molested in some way. Cicada Killer Wasp stings are also reported to be almost painless.
