    Q
How soon after I sprayed a Colorado blue spruce using Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control should I notice improvement in brown needle blight?
The needles on the lower branches of our three Colorado spruce trees began turning brown. The disease is moving up the tree. We pruned the branches that had no green needles left and sprayed with Infuse two days ago (September 21st). I am wondering if I will notice improvement in the needles on the remaining affected branches
    A

It sounds like you may be dealing with needlecast, a very common disease of blue spruce trees. This article has details about this disease’s development, plus management tips. You will need to prune the infested branches and also potentially prune nearby trees to reduce the spread of the disease. How quickly a plant recovers from infection depends on many factors, ultimately, such as overall health of the plant, environmental conditions, and how early you are able to detect and treat the plant. While the Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control is labeled for some conifer diseases, it will not treat needlecast. Garden Tech Daconil is labeled for needlecast on spruce trees, but keep in mind that this active ingredient can cause bleaching on blue spruce.

We always recommend consulting with an arborist in your area if you are not sure what is afflicting your trees or if you need a more detailed assessment.

  • Asked by Phil from Fairfield Ct

    Q
How much Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control per gallon to control boxwood blight?
    A

Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control is not labeled, specifically for boxwood blight, so we do not have a rate recommendation for this product. Boxwood blight is a serious disease, and while fungicides can be used to help prevent spread, they will not cure plants that are already diseases. You may use a chlorothalonil product such as Fung-onil Fungicide to help protect plants from this disease.

This article from the Purdue Extension has excellent information about this disease and how best to prevent it.

    Q
    Treatment for Magnolia Scales
I want to apply Infuse to ward off magnolia scale. My plant is about 10' tall and 20+ years old. I understand that I can pour a mixture of infuse into a 1-gallon bucket of water and pour this within an 18" circle around the base of the miniature tree as a "root-absorbing" application once a year...preferably in the early spring. How much Infuse (ie, Tbs) should I use for this amount of water?
    A
Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control is not labeled to control scale so we are unable to provide dilution rates for that use of the product.  Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide which conains Imidacloprid would be a better product to use.  You would use .1 to .2 oz per inch of trunk diameter.  It can take up to 8 weeks for the product to completely translocate through the tree so timing is key.  Application timing of systemics is very important and it varies from region to region. We recommend you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff as he or she will be able to give you the most accurate information in regards to application timing.

    Q
How many oz per gallon of water of Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control for Pachysandra?
    A

The Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control is not specifically labeled for Pachysandra so we couldn't say for certain what rate to use. Most disease products are mixed based on the disease you are treating for, not the plant type you are spraying on. You will want to look for the disease your plant has on the Product Label to see what mix rate you may need to use for your needs.

  • Asked by Elenore from Annapolis

    Q
Can I combine Bonide Infuse with Copper Fungicide to combat Cercospora on my Cryptomerias (Nana Globosa)?
If so how much do I use per gallon? Cryptomeria Nana Globosa with Cercospora
    A

Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control is not labeled to work on Cercospora so we would not be able to recommend a use rate or say that it would work for that disease at all. Ferti-lome F-Stop Lawn and Garden Fungicide Concentrate is labeled to control cercospora and should be safe to tank mix with the copper fungicide you plan to use as long as the label does not state otherwise.

Apply to the point when spray begins to run off the leaves. Dilute 1-1/2 fl. oz. (3 tbs.) per 1 gal. of water. Treat once every 2 weeks throughout the season or until conditions for favorable disease development (warm, moist weather) are no longer present. Allow spray to dry completely before watering.
