    What product would kill fungus growth in rattan furniture
    I noticed the leg of my sofa is softening in spots and looks like it is rotting. I want to stop the rot and strengthen the leg.

    For furniture your options are limited for treatment. If the wood is in its all natural raw state without any stains or finishes on it you can use a product like Boracare. Boracare will absorb all the way into the wood and eliminate Wood Destroying Fungus, termites and other wood-destroying insects that is effecting it and last for the life of the wood. It does not stain the wood or leave behind any visible residue, but becomes one with the wood and any insect that ingests it dies.

    If the furniture has a finish on it, you would either have to drill holes throughout it and inject something like the Boracare or a foam, or the option most go with, hire a

    Can I use Bora-Care to control and stop Carpenter bees on new wood under my house before they start coming?
    A
    Bora-Care is not labeled for Carpenter Bee Control as it must be ingested to affect the insect. Carpenter bees only tear away at the wood, they dont eat it like termites do so they normally will not be affected. Carpenter bees are normally less attracted to treated wood but even after sealing the wood, you could use a residual spray like Cyonara 9.7 to spray across the wood to kill them just from landing on the treated surface.  Cyonara is also found in one of Carpenter Bee Kits here.

    No, Boracare has to be used first. A sealant can be used after the Boracare has dried.

    Why didn't Bora-Care soak into my new OSB floor?
    I recently treated a floor with Bora-Care. The floor was standard, new, untreated OSB flooring (no stains). I applied Bora-Care with a sprayer at a 1:1 ratio; Bora-Care/hot water were well-mixed in a separate container, not in the sprayer. The temperature of the air around the floor at the time of treatment was 50-55 degrees F, and it did not freeze for several days after that. Now, several days after treatment, there are small syrup-like "puddles" of Bora-Care in different places across the floor that did not seem to soak into the OSB. The puddles are still liquid. Any idea how I can fix the puddling problem so that the floor dries like it should?

    Will Boracare work on salt treated floor joist under a house?
    I had recent termite and moisture damage on a recently purchased house. I removed all damaged flooring structure and replaced it with salt treated floor joist. I am placing moisture barriers on surface of ground. I need to know if Boracare will penetrate this type of lumber. Thanks.

    Bora-Care should only be applied to raw wood. It will not penetrate through any wood that has been pre-treated. Wood that is not painted, stained, sealed, pressure treated or any other pre-treatment on the woods surface.

    For normal wood fence, should I only spray one side with Boracare?
    Since Bora-Care can penetrate deeply, does that mean I only need to spray one side of the fence?

    For best penetration and protection it is recommended by the manufacturer to treat all 4 sides of the wood with Boracare ensure complete treatment of the wood.

    I have dryrot in a plywood bulkhead on my fiberglass sailboat. Which of your products should I uses?
    I have eliminated the offending water intrusion. The area of the bulkhead affected is not structural, thought a chain plate is on an unaffected portion of the bulkhead and I must stop the fungus from spreading. Replacing the bulkhead is virtually out of the question.

    We recommend using a borate product such as BoraCare or Timbor and treating the affected wood directly. Please read our Dry Rot Repair Article for directions and application procedures.

    Will Bora care work for an active infestation?
    I pulled a small section off of a mud tube in my house and I can see termites moving in it. Is bora care a good product to use to get the termites to take something back to the colony and kill them all or should I use something else?
    A
    First, it sounds like you may have Subterranean termites. You would do a completely different treatment for them,please see Barrier treatment. Boracare will work well to protect the wood itself. You can apply it for an active wood boring insect problem at a 1:1 ratio.

    Can an insecticide for controlling adult powder post beetles be applied at the same time as Boracare for larva?
    Treating infested black locust structural posts in a home.

    I heard that glycol will penetrate a wood that's painted w/o effecting the finish.
    Can I paint Bora Care directly onto a painted finish in its undiluted state, such that it will penetrate the finish and the wood to provide a protective barrier. I know you are supposed to drill the wood, but that's not possible everywhere so I was wondering if this would have any protective effect or not.

    Bora-Care should only be applied to raw that has not been painted, stained, sealed or varnished. It must also be diluted for any application with warm or hot water. It will crystallize on the surface and not penetrate otherwise. We do carry a product called Jecta that can be injected into treated wood.

    Does BoraCare overspill stay sticky on plastic floor tarps?
    I'm going to paint/spray on a wood ceiling. Is the overspray/drippage onto my plastic floor tarps going to dry completely so it's not a problem walking on them and I can use the tarps again? Or is the overspray/drippage always going to be sticky since it's going to be sitting on the surface of the plastic instead of soaking into bare wood?

    The water that Boracare is mixed with will eventually evaporate, and it will dry. You could also wash the product off the tarp and reuse it.

    Can Boracare be used in a thermal fogger or in a non thermal (ULV) type fogger?
    Can any of these foggers be used to get the product onto inaccessible rafters? If so would the "fog" be effective? Also what would you suggest to treat douglas fir beams clad in oak veneer that are directly attached to the underside of a roof structure - i.e., no space between beam and interior ceiling.

    Boracare is too thick of a product to be used in any type of fogger.  It can be foamed into wall voids or sprayed or painted directly onto raw untreated wood only.  If you cannot directly access the wood that needs to be treated, foaming is the best solution, although it will only penetrate into wood that it is directly contacting.

    How can I treat painted rocking chairs for powderpost beetles?
    These are very nice, made from reclaimed oak and now beetles are causing sawdust can they be treated since painted?

    The only way to treat the chairs with an insecticide is to strip the paint and apply a product called Bora-Care. If that is not an option you can check with local pest control companies to see if they offer a fumigation chamber or heat chamber that would be the correct size to treat the chairs.

    Can I apply Boracare on wood which had been painted but stripped now?
    I know that Boracare is for the untreated wood, but what about the wood which had been painted but it is stripped now? I am ready to repaint the handrail and I would like to use Boracare before I seal it with paint.

    Yes, you can use Boracare on wood that has been stripped. After the Boracare has dried for a couple of days it will be ready to be repainted.

    Can I treat already installed cedar fence post with Bora-Care?
    I just installed a picket fence in my front yard. I used 4x4 square untreated cedar post anchored in cement. The part of the post that are buried in cement have been painted with tar to prevent moisture penetration. If I apply Bora-Care to the exposed part of the posts will it penetrate to the lower portions of the post and provide fungus and temite protection?

    Bora-Care will penetrate some into the lower portions below the poured concrete, but it all depends on how deep the beams go. Of course any penetration into the part of the wood that is underground is of course better than not treating the wood at all.  You can ensure the product spreads deeper into the wood if you drill some small injection holes at a downward angle into the center of the wood from the exposed part at the concrete level down into the center of the wood below the concrete level.

    Preventative treatment on timber-frame barn
    We are replacing the siding on a timber frame barn which has 12"x12" uprights, 8x8 and 4x4 stringers/braces. Before we put up the pre-primed yellow pine siding, we want to apply preventative BoraCare. How long do we have to wait before mounting the siding? Is the 5:1 the right dilution for prevention? Does it make more sense to use a roller or sprayer? We will be working from a lift and will have easy access to 3 faces of the wood (The interior face is a bit inconvenient from the exterior of the building.) If any areas show an active infestation, do we just switch to the 1:1 dilution and apply as above? Thanks!

    Actually the 5:1 Boracare treatment is only if you wanting to prevent against drywood termites and powder post beetles.  If you live in an area that has subterranean termites which you probably do since subs are much more common than drywood termites and powder post beetles, you should use a 1:1 treatment for treatment of existing termites and for prevention of subterranean termites.  We always recommend a 1:1 treatment because then you have the highest level of protection no matter what you are dealing with or what is in your area.  Also, if there is something active in the wood that you don't know about, the 1:1 treatment will take care of it. Most people apply using a sprayer but it is completely up to you.  Typically you only have to wait about 4 hours before mounting the wood you treated. It does dry quickly most of the time.

    Will Bora-Care treat a log house after it has been treated with an exterior treatment about 2 years ago?

    Bora-Care will not penetrate through any type of paint, stain, sealant or other product.  It is true that stains and sealants will wear off over time, but it is hard to tell how much is left and how much Bora-Care will be able to penetrate through.  Some of our customers treat anyways and feel it is better that some make it through and some not, than not to try to treat at all.  So this is a decision you have to make on your own.

    Boracare is a concentrate and you will need to mix 1 gallon of Boracare with 1 - 5 gallons of water depending on your needs. You can review the Boracare product label to find the correct usage rate for your needs.

    Boracare for Black Polycaon Beetle: What percentage of product to use?
    In my office, the floor is stained, the walls have been painted, the furniture is stained or varnished...except for the inside of a large pine cabinet and some inner parts of my cherry wood desk. The beetles were introduced within a week or two via some driftwood used as a decoration. It was ordered from a source in Florida. I captured one and had it identified by a Entomologist. The others are "somewhere." I plan on using this product only on the exposed wood and using a paintbrush to apply it. Is this a wise course of action? Also, what percentage of the product should I use with water, being that the worst case scenario is that eggs have been laid? Thanks!

    On any wood that is not stained, painted or treated you can apply Boracare at a 1:1 ratio to help control the active infestation of these boring beetles. Be sure to read over the Boracare product label for complete usage instructions. You can also treat topically with a product such as D-Force HPX for any adult beetles that are crawling around on the surfaces of objects.
