No, Bora-Care and the bottle itself does not need to be near your face and doesn't need to touch your skin.
Yes, per the manufacturer Nisus, Boracare can be applied to kiln-dried wood or prior to being placed in a kiln. We would recommend allowing the application of BoraCare to completely dry and absorb throughout the wood before placing it in a kiln.
The mixing ratio of Boracare depends on if you have a current wood-boring pest you are treating. If you do, we recommend mixing at a 1:1 ratio. If you are using Boracare as a preventative you can mix at a 1:5 ratio.
We ALWAYS recommend using a 1:1 ratio with Boracare because of 2 reasons. First of all, a 1:1 ratio is the strongest ratio and will ensure complete penetration through the wood and it will protect longer in the wood than any other ratio. Second, even though you are using new wood, or store-bought raw wood, it can still contain beetles and other insects from the mill. Applying a 1:1 ratio ensures that if there are any issues whatsoever, they are taken care of before they become a problem.
We would recommend to try and wait longer than 24 hours to seal up the wall. This will allow for the product to better soak into the wood. Since Bora-Care alone does not treat for mold if you seal up moisture, mold could be a concern.
Boracare can be used as a foam. You should only be concerned about getting the foam near the wood and studs. Typically when a company foams walls, they drill holes at the top of the ceiling on either side of the studs and foam down the stud from the ceiling. This way you have gravity working in your favor and you are getting the foam against the wood which is all that matters. You will need a foaming agent and a poly foamer. You will mix 2 gallons of hot water with 1 gallon of Boracare.
Bore-Care is the ideal product for any raw wood within the structure of a home including the wood subflooring. This will help control any within the wood currently, as well as protect against any future infestations for the life of the wood. Use a 1:1 mix ratio of water to Boracare concentrate and spray, paint, or roll the solution on the wood surfaces on as many sides as you have access to for best penetration.
When applying Bora-Care to structural wood in the home, you only need to apply the product once. It will last for the life of the wood. If you are applying to exterior wood like a deck, porch, or fence that is exposed to rainfall, then you would either need to use a water sealant after the Boracare is dry, or you would re-apply Boracare after about 3-5 years.
To remove any residue from Bora-Care, simply use warm soapy water.
Typically, one gallon of concentrate Bora-Care will treat 800 square feet of a 2x4 stud wall and 500 square feet of a crawl space or attic.
The Bora-Care will not penetrate the finished sides, you would need to treat the unfinished side with two coats of the product. You will probably need to wait about 20 minutes to an hour (depending on penetration speed) between coats. It will seep as far into the wood as it can, so just depending on how deep that finish you used on the other sides went, will determine how far the Bora-Care can penetrate.
No, you cannot use Bora-Care to treat your bee hives.
