    After applying Bora-Care will the beetles leave for another piece of raw untreated wood?

    As the beetles emerge from the wood after it has been treated with Boracare they will die from ingesting the treating wood so there would be no worry of reinfestation.

    Should I kill termites in my privacy fence before before removing fencing?
    I've discovered a large infestation of termites in my privacy fencing (posts and slates) while assessing for repair. The fence is very old and in bad shape at this point and, especially with the termite discovery, I am just going to replace vs. trying to repair. However, would it be a bad idea to simply dismantle and haul away the fencing with the infestation, or should I try to eliminate the termites in the wood before disturbing the fencing? The fencing is close to my house, so I'm a bit concerned.
    A

    If you plan on using pressure treated wood there's no need to treat the area or the wood but we would recommend doing a preventative treatment around your house. If the wood is not pressure treated then we would recommend to treat the private fence. You can do two things, the most recommended treatment would be to treat the new wood panels with Boracare, once dry you will need to stain the panels afterwards prior to putting them in place and using metal posts when putting your new private fence up. The second method is to do a trench treatment with Termidor around the fence, since it is considered a "structure". We don't recommend doing the treatment before you remove the old fence because the removal will disturb the treated areas.

    Can Bora-Care be used on painted wood?
    A

    Bora-Care is only labeled for use on raw, untreated wood. For an effective treatment we would recommend you strip the wood of any paint.

    Can Boracare treated wood be burned at a later date safely?
    Some of my firewood is infested with powder-beetles. Can I treat this wood so with Bora-care or Termidor and then burn the wood at a later date safely?

    We do not recommend applying Boracare or Termidor SC to firewood. Burning any type of insecticide would release the active ingredients into the air.  Burning the wood without treating with any chemical would kill anything in it.

    Bora-Care can be applied to raw wood for the treatment or prevention of termites. It dries on clear and is made that way so you can stain, paint, or seal any piece of wood after using it. Please refer to the product label for complete mixing and application instructions.

    What type of sprayer do I need to apply Boracare?
    A

    Any hand pump sprayer can be used to apply Boracare.  It is recommended to dilute the Boracare in a bucket with hot water and then add the dilution to the sprayer. If you dilute Boracare directly in the sprayer you will almost always wind up with a clogged sprayer.

    Will Bora-Care kill all types of termites?
    I live in a East Tennessee and not sure what type(s) of termites are in this area.

    Bora-Care will kill all types but might not be the best choice depending on the type you have.  Subterranean termites and dry wood termites are two very different insects that require two very different treatments. We recommend that you get your termite infestation identified before you select a treatment method to be sure you are choosing the proper treatment method. Here two articles that can help you learn the differences between the two types of termites: Drywood Termites or Subterranean Termites. If you are still unsure after reading the articles you can always call in a professional company. Almost all termite companies will offer a free inspection and they will tell you what type of termites you are dealing with and how they recommend treating for the. At that point you can choose to hire them or do it your self. Termidor SC is the top termite product on the market. Termidor is completely undetectable by termites and once termites touch it they contact, ingest and spread the termiticide until it eliminates the entire colony. Termidor controls all types of termites including Subterranean, Formosan, and Drywood termites though the application method will be different for each type of termite.

    Is it safe to sand wood after it has been treated with Bora-Care?
    Can I use wood treated with this product to build things after it has dried? Does sanding it release anything that is harmful to humans or pets?

    Yes, after the Bora-Care has dried, you can sand and finish the wood. It usually takes 24-48 hours to fully dry. Nothing harmful is released into the air in doing so.

    Yes, Bora-Care will work on pressure treated wood. Bora-Care will become a second layer of protection and it might make the wood look aged but it will work.

    The manufacturer has told us that Boracare is not corrosive but of course should not be sprayed onto exposed electrical wiring of any sort.

    Does Boracare even penetrate hard woods as well?
    A

    Boracare can be used on ANY raw wood that is not painted, stained, or sealed. Even hardwoods. Since it dries on clear, it is no problem to stain, paint, or seal when you are done or apply a clear coat finish.

    I plan on using Bora-Care in the crawl space. Can I also use it on the live palm tree without killing it? I have discovered a decay fungus in our crawl space under the tub and on the bottom of a nearby palm tree in our yard.

    No, Bora-Care is a borate product, and borate products will kill any plant or tree life.  We have recently started carrying several fungicides for trees and other plants. We would recommend trying to contact a local college or university with a arborist program or a local lawn and turf company for a proper identification of the fungus.     Can I use Bora-Care on my wood furniture?
    I have powder post beetles on my wood table. I believe I bought these tables from a reputable furniture store, and I don't know what to do. They are nice tables. Will this solution ruin the tables, or can I apply it to them? I have to do something because this is crazy to have bugs in a table I paid good money for? What do you suggest?

    In order to use Bora-Care on your table, you would have to make sure the wood is bare or stripped. Bora-Care cannot penetrate into sealed or finished wood. After wood has been treated with Bora-Care, you can paint, stain or seal the wood with no problems.

    Is there anything non toxic I can do to treat severe drywood termite infestation?
    We have drywood termites in our hardwood floors in several rooms of our 1910 home. We just moved in a few months ago and they are already eating our furniture although our pest control man said they were probably in the furniture for years before and just dormant and woke up in the warmer weather down south (never had problems before moving here). There's no company locally that treats with orange oil or any other green methods. Could we treat this ourselves with Boracare or Timbor? Or pure d-limonene? The pest control company says fumigation is our only option. I am nervous about the health issues with fumigation.
    A
    If the drywood termites are in the floors, you can treat the floors with Boracare as long as they are unfinished. Boracare can only be used on raw natural wood so if there is a stain or sealant on the floors, it will need to be sanded up first before applying the Boracare. If there are drywood termites in your furniture, your options are limited. You can either strip down the finish on it and treat, drill holes all throughout it to treat with either Boracare or a foaming product, or fumigate it. Most of the time fumigation is your best option as its the only way to gurantee you are going to get every last one of them that deep within the furniture. Typically for this treatment they bring a pod type device similar to that of a portable storage unit, and place your furniture inside and either heat it or fumigate it for a set period of time. Aftewards you air out the furniture, steam clean it if you want, and its completely safe to use as normal. There are just not many truly green options out there for termite control as it is such a specific treatment, and most areas are not places you will be inhabiting with extended points of direct contact to a surface.     Once mixed with water, what is the shelf life of Bora Care?

    The shelf life of Boracare in original bottle is 3 years if stored in cool dry area. Like with most concentrates, you want to be sure to use any mixed solution within 24 hours of mixing.

    I'm spraying my unfinished basement where there are electrical wires running. How should I handle them?
    Can I just spray over the wires or do I need to do something else? I am talking about just the wires. There are no junction boxes of any kind.

    It would be best to be cautious of the exposed wires.  BORACARE can also be applied with a paint brush as well. Please be sure to mix with hot water to make it easier to mix and apply.

    You want to wait at least 72 hours after application to allow for Boracare to dry. Then you can do what ever you wish to the wood.
