    Can this be used on pressure treated wood?
    My new home has had a serious termite issue for a very, very long time. Just recently had a company do the trench treatment. Going forward I'm trying to do all the things possible to keep the termites away. There is a lot of 4x4 treated lumber that was used as borders around my house and upon pulling them up I see no termite activity on the wood. These 4x4s are probably 20 plus years old and don't even have signs of rot. I read that it's best to not have any wood to ground contact but if the wood is not touching my house and it's treated with Bora-care, will that be okay? Or is it not with the risk?

    Yes, Bora-Care can be used to treat pressure-treated beams in your home. Since the wood is pressure treated just allow ample time for the Bora-Care to absorb in and dry.  You may also see some beading of the product on the wood surface when applied, but it will soak in during the drying process.

    can I treat lumber with 50/50 diesel & oil mix after the bora care product has dried for 3 days?
    I need to protect wood from fungus as well as bugs

    Brand new porch floor 1x3 t&g doug fir. LA CA . Can I treat flooring with Boracare?
    My worry is that the boracare solution is more than 1/2 water, could this cause swelling?

    If you are applying to exterior wood like a deck, porch, or fence which is exposed to rainfall, then you would either need to use a water sealant after the Boracare is dry, or you would re-apply Bora-Care after about 3-5 years. We wouldn't be able to tell if your porch floor will swell or not, we would recommend to call  Nisus (800) 264-0870 to check with them.

    How do you treat a footing for subterranean termites if your on a steep slope?

    You can't treat below the footing because you could compromise the integrity of the structure. If your home is on a sloped property, you can stepped trench with Termidor SC.

    Do I need to spray both the inside and the outside on a newly constructed log home.
    I am getting ready to stain the house and have noticed some new bug hole activity.

    In order to get the full benefits of using Boracare, the product label states it is to be used on raw, untreated wood. Bora-Care penetrates faster when applied to all sides, and you get a more complete application, but if you can only apply to one side, it can still penetrate up to 4 inches into the wood with 1 application. Boracare will last the lifetime of the wood as long as you follow the instructions on the product label.

    Should my vapor barrier be replaced after spraying for powder post beetles or is it still safe to crawl around

    Bora-Care should be applied just to the point of being wet but not dripping.  You should not need to replace the vapor barrier as long as you are out of the area until it dries,  Typically after a few hours after application

    Can I safely use Bora-Care on the bottoms of the plywood beds in my popup camper?
    I have discovered powdery piles of wood under the areas where my plywood beds are positioned (when my popup camper is closed up.) I saw a few last year, but there seem to be a few more this year, so I need to treat. How to I treat- do I do the remove the mattresses and treat the tops AND bottoms, or is it enough to just treat the bottom and let it soak in? Is it safe, considering as I will be sleeping on the mattresses in the camper several times per year. If it is acceptable to use in this situation, where do I get it, and how do I apply it safely?
    A
    Bora-Care could be applied to plywood only if the wood is completely raw. So that means there cannot be any paint, stain, or sealant on the wood. If the wood is raw, then you would dilute the Boracare as directed on the label at a 1:1 dilution with water and apply to the wood with a sprayer, brush, or roller. You should remove any fabrics or other materials touching the wood before treatment. You should then allow at least 24-48 hours for the application to dry completely, and air out the area thoroughly before using the camper again.     A better option for you to consider may be spot treating the holes you see with a foaming insecticide, such as PT Alpine Foam RTU.

    Will Boracare harm hardwood floors on other side if sprayed on subfloor in basement?
    If I spray boracare between joist boxes in my basement and I get it on the subfloor would it soak through and harm/warp my finished hardwood floors on the first floor?

    Bora-Care can be applied to any raw wood that is not painted, stained or sealed.  It will only prevent termites from entering the wood that it is applied to.  Most of the time termites would have to eat through the sub-floor to get into the hardwood floors above, but there is no 100% guarantee that the termites will enter this way.  Treating the sub-floor would only ensure the termites do not get into the sub-floor.  If you want the hardwood floors protected as well, you should treat those also as long as they are unfinished.  Bora-Care dries on clear and is used for this purpose all of the time, it will be absorbed into the raw wood and will not warp your hardwood floors.

    Can bora -Care be sprayed on painted surfaces like an outside patio
    I have a patio in the backyard that's about 18 years old still in good condition. I change the one 4 x 4 post. And three 2 x 8 12 footers. The 4 x 4 post had live termites in it. Otherwide looks okay but who knows what's on the inside . Thanks

    All areas that need to be treated with Bora-Care will need to be stripped and sanded prior the application for the application to be effective. All exposed areas will then need to be sealed prior to a rain event.

    can bora-care be used with a broadcast/spot sprayer, 2.2gpm
    I have approximately 120 liner ft of 4x6 floor sills on pillars under my home. i would like to treat for dry wall termites . could i use my broadcast/spot sprayer that operates @ 2.2gpm. i have limited access and the long hose with the sprayer would allow me to get closer to my target . and what would the suggested mix be.

    Yes, Bora-Care can be applied with a sprayer as long as you are following the product label instructions. If you are treating a current termite infestation, you will apply Bora-Care with water at a 1:1 ratio. Please be sure to review the product label for complete application instructions.

    Will pine siding treated with BoraCare at time of installation last longer?
    We are considering re-siding our house with a 13/16" thick pine T&G vertical siding. The house had a similar siding when first built, and is now getting ants and rot in places. We like the look and price of the pine siding, but a manufactured siding would not have ant/rot problems. Would applying BoraCare to the pine siding allow it to last longer? We are thinking of applying BoraCare to the back side of the boards and a clear water sealer to the front side-- that way we can apply both at about the same time, and applying BoraCare to both sides seems excessive given it should penetrate all the way through a 13/16" thickness. What do you think of this approach?

    Bora-Care will last the entire life of the wood to protect against wood destroying insects, wood rot and fungi. As long as the pine siding is untreated and in its raw state, BoraCare will absorb completely throughout the wood and last the entire life of the wood when “locked” in with a water sealant, paint or stain.  

    For siding measuring 13/16 in (¾ inch) thick, refer to the Lumber Charts on pages 12 to 14 of the product label for linear and square foot coverage that one gallon of BoraCare will cover at the 1:1 or 2:1 ratio.

    Does wood treated with BoraCare need to be sealed in anyway afterwards?
    (Continued) We are still seeing post beetles in our barn a couple years after applying Boracare. I wasn't sure if they were newly hatched beetles or new adults coming in from the environment. The Boracare was used on posts in an old barn so the wood wasn't sealed in any way after the spray was applied. Is it normal to see beetles year after year despite thorough application of Boracare? Also, what is the best time of year to apply Boracare? We applied in late June/early July but can it be used in the fall with the same success?

    BoraCare can be used anytime of year as long as the wood itself is not damp or high in moisture. To ensure your BoraCare application lasts the entire life of the wood, it is recommended to apply a water sealant, stain or paint within 30 days of the application. 
     
    The beetle activity you are seeing could be new beetles coming into the barn. We would recommend inspecting the wood inside the barn for any holes or debris to determine if there is activity inside the wood that has been treated.

    If reapplication of BoraCare is determined necessary, we would suggest applying a paint, stain or sealant within 30 days to ensure the life of wood protection.

    When using Bora-Care for powederpost beetles, is it better to spray or brush the application on old barnwood walls?
    My parents lined our WI cabin walls with old barn wood in 1971. Global warming - doesn't get as cold in the winter and Powderpost beetles are worse everywhere now. bought your product. Spraying in carpeted bedrooms will be a mess - can we apply to the ceiling corners with a brush (what kind?) with equal satisfaction? Will it change the appearance of the old weathered barnwood?

    When applying Bora-Care to a ceiling, you can either spray or use a paint brush to make an application. If you decide to spray, you can lay a tarp down to protect the floor and any items below. If you use a paint brush to apply Boracare we would still suggest using protection for the items below. There could be a bumpy residue left which can be sanded off if needed.

    Can Bora-Care be used on raw maple wood to build kitchen and bathroom cabinets? Will this change the color of the maple?

    Boracare can be used on ANY raw wood that is not painted, stained, or sealed. Since it dries on clear, there should be no problem with stain, paint, or seal when you are done or while applying a clear coat finish. Please view the full product label for more information.

    After spraying Bora-Care at the 1:1 ratio on an old barn beam that will be turned into a mantle, there is a glossy shine that is sticky to the touch. Is this normal or should I sand it down and reapply?

    Drying times after Bora-Care can vary depending on the thickness of the lumber, humidty and air temperatures. It’s recommended to allow 72 hours for the Boracare to completely dry before sanding, painting or staining the wood. Once the application has completely absorbed throughout the wood and dried, there should not be any sticky residue left on the surface. Lumber that is greater than 10 inches thick do require 2 applications or if only 1 or 2 surfaces of the wood can be treated.

    Please refer to the Lumber Bulletin and the Bora-Care Total Wood Preservative for Use Prior to Installation of Lumber Section on page 13 of the product label for more information.

    Does Boracare affect glue adhesion
    I've treated white oak with a 1:1 solution of Boracare. When I begin building furniture using this wood, will I have a problem with glue adhesion using Titebond III?

    No, Boracare will not affect any glue adhesions, however, if you use Boracare over an area where there is already glue, it will not soak into the wood.

    Can Bora Care be used to treat a firewood stack for drywood termites?
    A

    We do not recommend applying Bora-Care to firewood. Burning wood treated with any insecticide would release the active ingredients into the air. Burning the wood without treating with any chemical will kill anything in it.

    Can I use roofing tar on Bora Care treated 4x4 to seal it?

    You should be able to seal the wood with anything labeled for this purpose without affecting the efficacy of Bora-Care.
