    There is what appears to be waste debris under the kitchen sink, coming from a plywood underlayment
    I thought I saw a spider. Can spiders nest inside plywood? Do they bore like termites? Could this also be carpenter ants? What does that waste look like? It does not look like termite droppings... What are the treatment options?
    A
    Spiders are not wood boring insects; however, they very well could under plywood or inside existing holes. If you have a critter boring into your wood, it could be powder post beetles, carpenter ants, or termites. Active boring would generally leave behind sawdust looking wood particles known as frass or even a fine wood powder. The best product for this type of treatment is Boracare. Boracare can be applied only to bare - unpainted and untreated - wood. You dilute the product down with water and either spray or paint it onto the wood. It absorbs in and will kill any existing infestation of wood boring insects and will preventfrom future infestations for the life of the wood. You need to verify exactly what type of insect you are dealing with though to know if Boracare is right for you or if you need a different type of insecticide. An excelent product for spiders is Demon WP.

    Is there a temperature requirement for treating with Boracare?
    I am treating the interior of a barn for powder post beetles. I know the product should not be stored in freezing temperatures but can the product be applied if the temperature is below freezing? Will it interfere with absorption?

    You really want to avoid applying any product in below freezing temperatures because the water part of the mixture can separate and freeze. Do try to apply on a day where the temperatures are above freezing.

    How much do i sand my fence before applying BoraCare?
    My yard fence is made of painted 4x4, 2x4 and 2x2 boards. Is it sufficient to sand only one side of each board for effective application of BoraCare, or to I need to sand all 4 sides of each?

    For best penetration and protection it is recommended by the manufacturer to sand all 4 sides of the wood so that you can apply the Boracare to all 4 sides to ensure complete treatment of the wood. If you do chose to only sand 1 or 2 sides of the wood make sure all paint particles are removed and you are only applying to pure raw wood and you may need to make multiple coats to ensure the product moves all the way through the wood.

    Drywood termites in upholstered armchair.
    Frame of the chair is visible; however the termite infestation is not. Just see the droppings in two areas. No apparent structural damage yet. What to do?
    A
    For furniture your options are limited for treatment. If the wood is in its all natural raw state without any stains or finishes on it you can use a product like Boracare. Boracare will absorb all the way into the wood and eliminate any infestation that is there and last for the life of the wood. It does not stain the wood or leave behind any visible residue, but becomes one with the wood and any insect that ingests it dies. If the furniture has a finish on it, you would either have to drill holes throughout it and inject something like the Boracare or a foam, or the option most go with, hire a company to fumigate it.

    Bora-Care does not come ready to use.  We do carry the Jecta.  Jecta has the effectiveness of Bora-Care in a gel form for sealed or hard-to-reach wood.  Jecta is a ready-to-use injectable borate gel used by pest management professionals to protect sealed or inaccessible wood from termites and other wood destroying organisms. It is typically used to reach places where Bora-Care cannot be applied effectively.

    best product for prevention of termites remodeling and want to treat exposed wood
    Replacing siding and want to treat the lower sheeting and sill plate while it is open. Long term prevention is the goal, no sign of termites now. Boracare looks good, but want your view on what is best. How much will I need approx. 180 lineal feet of foundation

    Bora-Care will be your best option because it will last the entire life of the wood.
    One gallon of Bora-Care will treat approximately 100 lineal feet of 2 x 4 stud wall. This includes sill plate and header.

    Can I just wash out the plastic tub myself or should I bring it to a hazardous waste disposal site?

    How do I treat for flying dry wood termites with no visible infestation?

    The only prevention for drywood termites would be to use a wood preservative to try and protect the structure from future infestation. Boracare is our most popular wood treatment product, and once applied, it is there for the life of the wood.

    Can Boracare be applied over Timbor?
    I had my workshop professionally treated for active powderpost beetles and they used Timbor. However, after 4 months they are still active! They are in rough cut pine 4x8 ceiling joists. I have read Boracare is better for penetration. Should I retreat with Boracare myself or a second coat of Timbor. I am also confused about how long it takes ppb to die. I know they have to eat to the borax first. Should I just wait?

    Bora-Care is always the recommended product for treating active Powderpost Beetles because it penetrates deeper into the wood, up to 8 inches with 2 applications.  Timbor will only go about 1/4 inch so it will not get to the larvae already in the wood.  Bora-Care can take up to 30 days or more to penetrate all the way through a piece of wood and this will vary depending on how thick the wood is and the moisture content.   We would recommend applying the Bora-Care and not a second application of Timbor.  The larvae stage in the life of the Powderpost beetle is the longest, lasting from 1 to 10 years before it will mature to adulthood so it can take time to completely erradicate them.

    Will BoraCare penetrate into the wood if I have pressure washed the wood that only had been stained before
    We have powder post beetles in our outside porch and railings that is raw cut lumber and has only been stained. Will this penetrate into the wood if I pressure wash the wood first? This is a wrap around porch on a cabin.

    Bora-Care can only be used on raw, untreated, unsealed wood. If you are trying to treat wood that is already stained or sealed, you either have to sand the finish off completely like you have done on some of the other wood, or your only other option is to drill holes in the areas that you see damaged and inject the Bora-Care directly into the wood; bypassing the stained layer.  Pressure washing the wood does not remove the stain.

    Is Boracare the product for me? Will the salt dull cutting tools after it is dry?
    I am air drying furniture lumber, from my property, I harvested and had sawn. It is very important to me that anything I put on the wood for powder post beetles, and other critters, not add or change any of the colors that naturally occur in the wood. It is also important to me that I am not adding additional hazards of toxicity, I always use a respirator when I machine and build things from any wood, but I don't want to add any hazard to the completed wood. I only use the natural colors in the wood, and as a final finish will use an oil or clear finish. Is Boracare the product for me? Will the salt dull cutting tools after it is dry?

    You should use a wood treatment product to treat powder post beetles.  Bora-Care is the best wood treatment product available. It will penetrate through the wood and kill the larvae eating the wood no matter where they are in the wood.  However, it can only be applied to raw wood.  It cannot be applied to wood that is painted, stained, or sealed.  If your wood is painted, stained, or sealed, then you will need to drill holes and inject Bora-Care or sand the finish off of the wood, treat with Bora-Care, and then refinish the wood.

    What product would you recommend to use in ulv fogger to treat fungus in crawl space?

    We would recommend using Boracare with Moldcare as it will treat and prevent mold and wood boring insects. Boracare with Moldcare will treat 1250 square feet of a crawl space or attic when mixed at the labeled rate of 1 gallon of bora-care with mold care and 5 gallons of water. Please see label for complete application directions and yield amounts. We do not recommend foggine.

    Old House Wood Bore Finished Logs
    I have a log home that was sand blasted and refinished about 4 years ago. I now see what I believe to be Old House Wood bore beetles coming out. I see reference to injection the product

    If the inside of the logs are not finished you can certainly apply a few coats of the Boracare from the inside but it is not guaranteed it will penetrate all the way through the wood with the finish on the other side. If you were injecting from the outside, another product made by Nisus like the Boracare woudl be better. The product is Jecta and is specifically designed to drill holes and treat finished wood that cant be stripped or sanded down for an application of Boracare.
