Non-toxic and safe
By T. on 11/06/2020
I use very hot water to mix to the dilution required and Bore-Care dissolves much more easily. Definitely rinse out your sprayer with fresh water prior to storage or the 1:1 will soon crystallize inside your sprayer wand, hose and tank.

Termite treatment
By Jay on 02/05/2021
Excellent product. Easy to apply with a simple 10-20$ sprayer from Home Depot. It is very thick so i mix it up well. Turn sprayer upside down to blow out with air if it gets a little clogged and shake it up. For the coverage this can do, bug companies charge about 300-800$. I bought two, sprayed a 3 story house framing and decking when replacing stucco damage. Quotes were 1k. I save big bucks!! This stuff is sticky just don't lick it or snort it and you're good.

Happy
By Steve on 09/20/2021
The product was easy to mix and the green marker made it very easy to see where I've been, I will custom homes and this is a good option rather than using harsh pesticides and termite spray underneath slabs which come up through cracks into the living space. We spray around the exterior of the houseWith chemical spray and less on all wood framing.

Termites Eliminated
By Joe on 10/26/2021
Had a maple log cut into 2 1/2 inch thick slabs for woodworking. Two of the slabs had termites near one end. Mixed Bora-Care with hot water, 50/50, and did a drench spray (until runoff) on all sides with a hand-held sprayer. Termites didn't stand a chance. No odor or discoloration of wood. Also works on powder post beetles. Bora-Care is thick like syrup so hot water is a must. Highly recommend and would use again.

Bora Care for Homeowner

Watch out for drips and overspray - dries sticky
By Sjc on 11/05/2021
I liked this product because it's relatively non-toxic, so I felt comfortable using it as a DIY-er. When mixed with water 1:1 it's very watery and therefore drippy. Since I was spraying it over my head onto a basement ceiling I ended up with LOTS of drips. I used a fantastic sprayer (Chapin Premier) but still wasn't able to keep the product only on the targeted beams. The overspray and falling droplets dried to a sticky film. It wipes up with a warm wet cloth but that was another step to the project I hadn't counted on.

Bora-Care
By Bob on 11/08/2021
Stuff is being applied to 6 year old deck made with heat treated wood, not pressure treated. Deck boards breaking due to ordinary foot traffic in wet areas, due to fungi induced rot. What's worse, pressure treated supports also getting mushy. Won't hold lag screws for rail sections. We will probably never really know if any treatment slows the damage. Still worth a try. Users should be aware that this material is thick/viscous like cold honey. Read directions before dumping into sprayer. Takes a lot of mixing with water.

Bora-Care

interesting to mix with water
By Flapz on 02/25/2022
I won't know how effective bora-care is on preventing termite & fungus damage for 20 years . But this is my experiences mixing it with water. I used a 1 to 1 mix because the existing untreated douglas fur 2x8 joists joists under my trex composite decking suffered random termite and dry rot damage. There is no roof over this deck and the surfer I hired to install it provided no spacing between the trex planks and used 16 sinkers instead of stainless screws and 1/3 of his sinkers missed the joists. After 20 years most of the sinkers were rusted away. This location is on the central cal coast about 100' above and 400' from the sea. Pretty corrosive environment. Actually the most damaged components were the 2x12 clear redwood fascia surrounding the deck. It looked like a honeycomb from the termites . I painted the new, replacement, already pressure treated (copper solution) 2x8 fur joists with a 1 to 1 bora care solution. I used the same on the new, non pressure treated redwood 2x12 and also on the top surround 2x6 railing. Since I was painting each joist on 4 sides twice with the solution I mixed small batches ( 1 quart) of the very thick (like STP) bora-care with water from our water heater at 160+ degree F hot water. I incorporated the hot water into the BC slowly mixing with a painting stir stick which worked well for starters and finished with a rotating metal paint stir tool driven by my electric drill motor. I experimented with the water temp and found the hotter the better. I'm 80 so, don't check back with me in 20 years. Flapz

Powder Post Beatles back
By Stephanie on 05/21/2022
Sprayed my entire wooden barn with this product twice last fall. Seemed like it took care of the problem. Now they are back. Throughout the entire barn.
Expert response:
We apologize you did not achieve the intended results. Bora-Care only works on insects that are active feeding on the wood and Powderpost beetles can lay dormant in wood for years until conditions are right for them to hatch and become active to feed on the wood. Seeing activity is normal but they will die from ingesting the treated wood.

Bora-Care on new build
By Amy on 04/12/2024
We purchased Bora-Care for termite treatment on our new stick build. The application was easy and straight-forward. Quoted more than $600 for local company to complete. Did it ourselves for under $200. The ordering process was effortless and shipping was fast. Great product and company.

Boracare
By Richard on 09/15/2011
I wanted to wait to write the review for awhile as the sawdust continued to form for a couple weeks after treatment. 2 coats were applied. Now, about a month later, I don't see any new sawdust. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. The Boracare was easy to apply. I have 1/2 gal left, so I will save it for next year and give it another 2 coats. This was used on 5" timbers used as landscaping timbers around a basement egress window. The timbers are stacked on each other, so most timbers only had one side coated. Some had 2 sides coated. Rich

Boracare
By Claude on 03/05/2012
I ordered boracare to treat what I think is power post bugs.My order came very fast and packaged well. I find that it mixes easy with a drill and paint mixer in cold or warm water. I also ordered the 2Gal pro sprayer to replace the old one that I had. This is the best sprayer that I have found anywhere. I mixed boracare 1to1 to spray under my house. In some places its very low to the ground. Boracare covers good and the 2 gal sprayer works very well in tight places. This was a lot of work but its good to know I want have to do it again for many many years
Appears to be great
By Kent on 04/24/2012
I say "appears to be great" because I have only applied it just a few days ago and I'm assuming that if any critters munch on the studs of my kitchen they'll soon be meeting their doom now that I've applied this. I'm renovating the kitchen, hence the ability to spray Boracare on open studs. A word of caution...this stuff is thick and will clog your sprayer if you aren't careful. Thus, as this website will tell you and as the label on the container advises... (1) use warm water when mixing, (2) spray soon after you mix it, and (3) thoroughly rinse after you use it. It's not hard...just know that the product is designed to harden like glue and will do the same in your sprayer if you're careless. As for the the shipment and overall satisfaction with this website (domyownpestcontrol), I couldn't be happier. I have ordered TONS of stuff from these guys and I'm telling you...there is no better company out there! Incredible customer support, fast shipping, and great packaging. Everything you'd want in a great customer experience!

Very good product
By Jian on 05/15/2012
After I did some research and found out this item bora-care and I bought 4 gallon for my remodeling sweet home. It's easy to mix with water and easy to spray, by the way the champion spray from this website, is better what I thought. Only thing is the pipe is not too long and I have to carry the 2 gal tan around. It's not a big deal. I sprayed the most house where the drywall has gone. wood absorbs the liquid really fast. How much effect the termite? I don't know yet, so far I don't have termite, hopefully I will never have termite in a long time. Now I am buying Timbor from here, to put dust to the joints and floor corner before everything is closed up. By the way, the company is great, good service, fast shipping. It's even better than Amazon :)

Haven't seen any more swarming, and after second application, anticipate will have permenate protection from future wood damage. I am satisified with this product at this time.

I think this product works as advertised as I used it and noticed what it does to the treated area of the wood and I think it will protect the wood for life as they said on the lable. I had seen similler product used in other countries and it does protect the wood from termite.
Easy to use.

Carpenter Ant invasion
By Hamish25 on 08/17/2012
I hope this treatment works as well as it seems to. Our subdivision is very wooded. This year our homes were over run with carpenter ants. After hearing neighbors' stories of disappointment concerning treatment companies, we turned to Do My Own and Bora-Care. The day after treatment we were no longer seeing carpenter ants. To this day we appear to be ant free.
Boracare review
By Earlene on 09/14/2012
The product was fairly easy to use, and not too messy. I used a sprayer for it. I'd give the item 5 stars, but I'm unsure of the lasting effects! However, I think I'll be long dead before I'll have to worry about termites again! The ordering process was very easy, and my product arrived in the scheduled time. All in all a very good experience with this company. Thank you!
