Powder post beetles

Before using Bora-Care, home sawn red oak and black cherry lumber had damage showing within two weeks of cutting. At that time, Bora-Care was applied to that lumber at a 1:5 dilution in water and no further damage was found. Since then, we use Bora-Care immediately after sawing any oak - red and white, black cherry, hackberry, and soft maple. Over 150 logs have been sawn and no evidence of damage from powder post beetles has been seen. We won't start the sawmill without enough Bora-Care solution ready to spray the lumber cut that day.

I have used this product before about 12 years ago. We are having another house built and I wanted to protect this home as well. Ordered it to be sent standard shipping and received it incredibly fast. The trick to application is to warm up the boracare by submerging the container in a 5 gal bucket of hot water and when you mix it use very hot water and a paint mixing paddle. It is then fluid enough to apply using a gallon sprayer. This is the only stuff that you can use for interior application in walls and in floor joists that I am aware of. Seems to work very well.

On September 7 I ordered a jug of Bora-Care from DoMyOwnPestControl.com and the morning of September 9 the order was delivered. Extremely fast fulfillment! I had looked into the process for making my own fungicide using borax, boric acid and propylene glycol but decided not to because it involved heating the mix. As a ready to use product Bora-Care is well worth the cost. It's a thick mixture and difficult to pour small amounts for mixing doses for application but knowing that in advance is enough to be prepared.

Product is a bit messy and sticky until it has a chance to fully dry. Once dry there is no sign of the product. This is a good thing, but if you break the project up into stages you need to keep track of where the boundaries are. Product did take about 2 years for it to take full effect. I suspect this is because the beetles are in the wood out of reach and need to exit before they are exposed to the product. Using the recommended stronger concentration for an existing infestation should affect this time, however for a large structure this gets to be very expensive. Of course, the beetles have now relocated to the lower level so I'll be treating that next. I mixed the product in a 25 gallon atv mounted tree sprayer and used a longer hose with a lift to reach the high beams.

Had new 8 x 10 shed constructed two years ago. My old shed had some termite infestation and the company that constructed the new shed spayed every piece of wood with this product. I have not seen one termite, carpenter ants or any other bug infestation since this product was applied. Since the new shed cost me a fortune I can honestly say I'm so glad I purchased this product. these maggot termites had infested my wood in my laundry room of all places after cutting into the nest with a sawzall i sprayed them mounds of them kept accumulating under the area every day i repeated this spray,mound ,cleanup thing then i watched them crauling to a spot and started digging into this rotten peice on the floor there was a hole in the concrete where there was once a anchor i sprayed the hole and all of the wood and the termites instantly stopped appearing around my laundry room siding and studwork and shelves and no more termite maggots crawling across the floor all gone ez ez extermination the place was tented in 2013 but thats for a different termite

Bora-Care application

I had 100+ years old heart pine from our old barn milled for use as a new kitchen floor in my 100+ years old home. As there had been powder post beetle activity in the wood over the years, I applied bora-care over the installed floor (before finishing of course) at a 1:1 ratio. All went as per instructions and after a couple days of dry time, the floor was successfully finished. DoMyOwnPestControl was very quick to respond to my questions and shipping ultra fast.

Our small cottage experienced water damage in the crawlspace. A result was wood rot fungi in the outer wall and on the crawlspace joists/beams. After replacing most of the outer wall, we found the joists/beams to be 'sound' so researched finding a solution for the fungi. Bora-Care came highly recommended so we gave it a try. Wow!! Wish now I had taken photos of the before and after. Horrible, orange fungi literally died and turned black within a day or two and started peeling (oozing) off. Now that the joists/beams are clean (I ended up wiping some off with paper towels as I was crawling around under there), I'm going to go back and give everything a 'protective' treatment just in case (also treated the new wood as well and installed a dehumidifier). Amazing product.

I live in a residential neighborhood and found I have drywood termites in the attic. Well if I have termites then my neighbors also have them so tenting is not a good long term solution since my neighbors swarm will eventually reinfest my home. Treating with boracare should protect my home regardless of termite activity in the rest of the neighborhood.

My home had some previous damage from termites and rot that I discovered when replacing my deck. I used Bora-Care to protect the wood after cleaning out the debris from the damaged area. The product was easy to mix and use. I chose an empty dish detergent bottle to mix. I was able to squirt the mixture into all of the crevices.
