(Re-Post as I incorrectly typed my email) Our new built home in the city is very close to a unkept rental house (less than 5' away) and as such we get periodic German roaches- not an infestation but “travelers”. We have hired a pest control company who sprays the interior and exterior. Our fireplace is direct vent gas, and the vent is on that side of the home. I witnessed a small one just crawl through the box of the FP surround. Is boric acid dust okay to be sprayed around the exterior of the FP box- basically on and in the void space? When we go to start the fire in the winter, should we vaccum the dust up- is it toxic if heated up?
CB Borid Boric Acid Dust should NOT be applied in the fireplace. We do not offer a product for insect control inside of the fireplace. You should focus on the exclusion and reduction of food and water sources in and around the structure to prevent their entry/access and take away their means of survival. Here is an article on prevention tips.
