    Q
Would these dunks work for drain flies in a drain?
The drain in our basement for the water heater always has standing water, as it should, but this year we keep having drain flies there. I dump boiling water in there regularly, but they keep coming back. It's been snaked already. So now I am wondering if putting a dunk in there would work? I see a previous answer that this product is effective for drain flies. Awesome. But I am wondering if it is safe in a drain with standing water? Or is there a better product? Thank you!
    A

BTI Mosquito Dunks cannot be used in drains but is a great product for drain flies in listed areas outside only. For treatment of your drains, you can use the Invade Bio Bullet.

    Q
Can the dunks be used in a planter half full of dirt that has standing water in it?
Want to use a dunk in a decorative planter that looks good on my deck. It has some dirt on the bottom. Will the dunk still be effective?
    A

As long as there is some standing water or wet soil where you place it in the planter the BTI Mosquito Dunks will work effectively to sterilize the water that is there and prevent mosquito breeding within it.

    Q
Will mosquito dunks in a small pond contaminate nearby wells?
    A

The BTI Briquets/dunks will not normally migrate anywhere it will simply slowly break down until gone in standing water areas where you don't want pest reproduction to occur. If any of the product did get into the water table somehow it would not be a problem as this product does not harm us and can be used in drinking troughs for animals, in ponds with fish being caught for consumption, and in rain barrels where the water is used to water vegetables.

    Q
I live in Mississippi. I have a lot of trees. Can I lay the dunks on the ground by the trees? Do I water them?
I have alot of trees and a huge yard. I have one side that holds water and other side have trees and don't hold water. How should I treat it? Thanks
    A
BTI Mosquito Dunks are only placed where water accumulates or has already gathered. These can be used directly in bodies of water, such as bird baths, old automobile tires, rain barrels, abandoned or unused swimming pools (particularly above-ground types), tree holes, roof gutters for collecting rainwater, flower pots, animal watering troughs, elevator shafts, basements that flood, sump pumps and any drainage areas within buildings. No need to water them. We recommend using Talstar P for mosquito control around the yard.

Will this work in the following way?
As a method for controlling fungus gnats on indoor plants, my local garden center instructed me to break up a mosquito dunk & put it into a 5-gallon pail of tap water, let it stand for 24 hours, then use it for watering indoor plants, continue to refill it after each watering & until all the floating bits were used up. Will this work?

  • Asked by Ralph from Clementon

    Q
Should I change the water when using new BTI Mosquito Dunks?
    A

The BTI Mosquito Dunks are designed to coat the top of the water surface and slowly break down over a 30 day time frame. Since you did not specify what type of water area you are referring to where water would be changed out, we cannot accurately answer your question. If a dunk is still a solid piece floating in the water it is still actively breaking down and could potentially be moved into a new water area, but would not last as long as a new dunk.

  • Asked by J from La Quinta
    09/21/2019
    Q
if I dissolve mosquito dunk in a 50 gallon barrel..can I water my plants with it to control thips larvae?
    A

BTI Mosquito Dunks will not dissolve immediately into water as that is not how they are designed to work. They float on standing water areas to slowly break down over about a 30 day time frame to sterilize the water so no mosquitoes can lay viable eggs in the water. If you wish to toss a dunk into your barrel you can certainly do so and it will break down over time. It will not harm any plants but it will not control thrip larvae in any way it is used. Mosquito dunks are only for mosquito larvae.
