    Q
Is it safe to place this product inside floor vents? (I saw a mouse go through my floor vent)
I killed a mouse and two weeks later I saw another one. The area where I stay was once a wooded area and they built townhouse. Please help because I hear noises in the floor vents!!!!
    A
You cannot place the Contrac inside the vents. You can place the Contrac inside tamper resistant bait stations near the vents and in places where you have noticed activity. The mice and or rats must come out of the vents to get food so they will eventually find the bait. The alternative would be to use snap traps or glue boards in areas where you have noticed activity. By using snap traps and or glue boards you will know exactly where the rodent has died and make removal easy.

    Q
Will squirrels eat Contrac Blox Rodenticide?
    A

Contrac Blox Rodenticide should be applied in tamper resistant stations to avoid non-target animals and children from accessing the bait inside. It is possible that a squirrel could be attracted to the bait for consumption. Although, Contrac is labeled for rats and mice, it could harm a squirrel as well since they are also in the rodent family.

    Q
If the Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide attracts rats from the neighborhood, does that mean I need to change the bait later?
I don't want to host the rat colony on great tasting food. I will never get rid of them. Please help and explain how to handle this
    A

Contrac Rodenticide doesn't so much attract rodents from all over as it will target rodents that are already coming onto the property other food sources, nesting supplies or water. Bait stations with rodenticides should be placed on the exterior of the home or within 50ft of the house where the rodents are already traveling. The blend of food grade ingredients will appeal to their sense of smell as they travel along their already familiar path. Use gloves when handling the bait so your human scent does not contaminate the bait and place the bait stations in the runways they are already traveling. Bait should be renewed at intervals of several days. Continuous bait availability (as with anticoagulants) is not required, but bait needs to be present long enough to allow all animals in the area to feed. The amount of bait needed is usually about one-third that used with anticoagulants, since an animal ingesting a lethal dose does not feed again.

    Q
Does the Contrac Blox Rodenticide stop reproduction of mice?
    A
The Contrac Blox does not stop the reproduction of rodents.  Contrac Blox is an anti-coagulant which means once the mice eat this product they begin to bleed to death from the inside.  The mice first become sick, and then grow tired and weak and pass in their sleep.  It can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on how much the mice have eaten.  They do not need water for the product to work.

    Q
Is there any secondary poisoning of chickens for Contrac Blox if they consume the rodents feces?
I raise chickens and I am concerned about the rat turds left behind that can be consumed by chickens? Are the turds harmful to chickens? Its not their favorite food, but I do think they eat them sometimes. On a side note, I have the UV Contrac and, although not the primary intention, you can use a UV light to tell if you got it off your hands completely. I had to wash my hands 3 times before it was completely gone.
    A

The chances of secondary poisoning by chickens consuming the feces left behind by rodents that consumed Contrac Blox is extremely slim. Normally animals have to consume multiple entire rodents in order to ingest enough poison to have any effects. Unless the chickens are getting direct access to the poison itself there should not be any issue if they consume a few pellets here and there.

    Q
Will Contrac Blox be effective on gophers?
    A
Unfortunately, because Contrac Blox are not labeled for gophers we cannot recommend that you use this product for this pest. The only baits that we have for gophers of any kind are ZP Rodent Bait and Hi Yield Mole and Gopher bait. They are actually lableled only for 'pocket gohpers'.

    Q
Once Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide is put out, how long is it good for if untouched?
    A

Contrac bait should be stored at room temperature and replaced every 40-60 days in the bait stations because it contains food based ingredients. The bait could mold or sour in the hot or cold months (should be replaced every 30 days during the summer and winter) and may be less palatable to the rodents.

    A

Contrac Blox can be toxic to animals if enough is consumed, although an antidote, Vitamin K1 is readily available from your vet.  If you believe your pet consumed any amount of this product, it is important to contact your vet or pet poison control as soon as possible

    Q
How long does the uneaten Contrac Blox last outdoors?
    A
When please in Contrac Blox a tamper resistant bait station, it will be kept out of direct sunlight and out of the rain. Lots of rain or extreme heat will cause the bait to deteriorate faster than cool dry weather. Basically, bait that is placed into a station should be inspected every week or every other week It should be replaced if it is moldy, melted, sour or infested with insects.

    Q
    Insects eating Contrac Blox Rodenticide
I have Contrac Blox Rodenticide inside Protecta Evo Ambush bait stations, and it appears that insects are eating the bait. I put these out last year, and I didn't notice any signs of insects eating the bait at that time (I change the bait every 4 months). Recently, all of the bait was gone, and I replaced it and rechecked the next week to find them covered in insects. Any ideas/suggestions?
    A
Insects are trying to fatten up for the winter. It is not uncommon for insects to be more attracted to rodent bait like Contrac. We recommend to sprinkle Niban Bait around the outside perimeter of the bait station to keep the insects out.

    Q
If I get Contrac Blox, can u tell me if the mice or rats will die in walls or will they go outside to die?
I live in an apartment and would like to know what I'm facing here. Place is infested!
    A
Rodents that eat the ContracBlox will not neccessarily go outside to die. There is a high possibility they will die indoors and then you will be dealing with a very foul odor for atleast a few weeks. We would recommend trapping rodents indoors using snap traps or glueboards. Trapping eliminates odor problems by allowing you to dispose of the carcass. Please read over our article regarding eliminating rodents indoors.

    Q
    Is Contrac toxic to opossums?
I have a Bucket of Contrac that has been very effective with the rats. Recently, a possum has been breaking into the bait stations and stealing the bait. Will this harm the possum? This is a big problem for me because I have to clean up his crumbs so that other animals (chickens) don't get into them.
    A

Contrac Blox Rodenticide is not labeled for possums but if they were to eat enough of it it could harm them.  It doesn't sound like your stations are secure at all to the ground or to some other structure.  You can use liquid nails and affix the station on a 1 x 1 foot paver you can buy from home depot.  This well prevent them from being moved.  Also, if you make sure the bait is secured on the rods, and the station is secure, it should prevent the possum from being able to work the bait free from the rods.

    Q
Will Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide attract squirrels?
    A

Contrac Blox Rodenticide should be applied in tamper-resistant stations to prevent non-target animals and children from accessing the bait inside. Although this product is only labeled for rats and mice, it is possible that a squirrel could be attracted to the bait matrix for consumption since squirrels are in the same family as rats/mice.

    Q
How come the mice are not eating the Contrac Blox?
I'm in pest control and have went back to this job numerous times they have no food laying around and there is no feeding on the contrac blox I'm stumped they won't even go for snap traps...
    A

There are many reasons why rodents may not be attracted to a bait such as Contrac Blox. One very common reason is that the bait is not fresh; baits should be used within 1 year of opening, and stations should be changed every 30 days for the best acceptance. You should also be sure to wear gloves when servicing bait stations and handling rodenticides. This not only protects the person handling the bait and stations from contaminants and possible disease, but it also keeps human scent and oils off the bait so as not to deter the rodents from it.

It can be difficult to locate competing food sources. Mice will travel up to about 10-20 feet for food from their nesting site, while rats will travel much farther, 50-100 feet from their nesting site. Bait placements should be close enough together to allow easy access to the bait. Keep in mind also that if this is a service call, then you have not been there to monitor the sanitation all the time, so there could be trash or other food sources that have been left out. All food storage areas, food containers, areas around applicances, and trash receptacles should be checked for rodent activity.

If you have used fresh bait multiple times and are unable to locate and competing food sources but still see new rodent activity, then you may want to consider using a different bait. Just like people, rodents can prefer one food over another. Soft Baits such as First Strike have very high palatability and are great to rotate with something like Contrac.

    Q
I understand Contract bait is now labeled for voles. What is the best exterior protocol?
    A

To our knowledge Contrac Blox are not labeled for Voles. Kaput Combo Mini Blox is labeled to be used for voles and would be a better option when used in bait stations. Voles: Place 1 block in each bait station. Situate bait stations near runways, burrow opening or plants that voles have been damaging. Check placements daily. Maintain a fresh bait supply for 15 days.

    Q
How long is the potency of the Contrac if a mouse ate this bait that laid out for six months will it die?
    A
Contrac bait should be stored at room temperature and replaced every 40-60 days in the bait stations because it contains food based ingredients. The bait could mold or sour in the hot or cold months (should be replaced every 30 days during the summer and winter) and may be less palatable to the mice. It should eradicate the mice if they consumed enough of the bait.

    Q
    Does Contrac Blox Attract Mice?
Mice got inside our heat pump outside and did some damage. If I place a bait stations around the heat pump, will the Contrac Blox odor attract mice to the bait station and the heat pump? Thanks.
    A
Yes, the mice and rodents in the area will be attracted to the Contrac Blox as they are made of a variety of very attractive food based ingredients for the rodents to want to feed on. Any rodents looking for a food source would want to go to the bait in the stations. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
