  • Asked by Glen from Pearl River, Ny
    04/18/2018
    Q
If I used Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide at the minimum rate and then got 4 inches of rain the next day, is that too much rain?
    A

If you had four inches of rainfall immediately after applying a pre-emergent such as Crabgrass Control Plus with Prodiamine, then it is likely you will have some uneven coverage due to puddling or runoff of the active ingredient. So unless you have perfect drainage in the treatment area - which most of us don't - you may see spotty control if product was washed away from some areas. You can retreat those areas as long as you have not exceeded the maximum annual rate for your turfgrass.

  • Asked by Ken from Maryland
    08/22/2021
    Q
What is the recommended rate and best time to apply Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide in Central Maryland on a Tall Fescue Lawn?
    A

For best results, Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide should be applied prior to weed germination in late fall and early spring.

Per the product label, the rate for Tall Fescue is 2.7lbs per 1000 sq ft with a maximum of 9.3lbs per 1000 sq ft total for the year. This can be applied as a single application at the maximum per year rate (9.3lbs per 1000 sq ft) or in sequential applications at the 2.7lbs per 1000 sq ft rate to control weeds germinating throughout the year.
For summer weeds including crabgrass, applications in early spring when soil temps are just under 55 degrees are best for optimum weed control. For winter weeds, applications in late fall when soil temps drop to 70 degrees and continue to drop are recommended.

Please view our Cool Season Lawn Care Calendar for general timing recommendations or contact your Master Gardener with the County Extension Office for exact timing recommendations in your area.

    Q
Can I apply Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide to my tomatoes/bed? Any special care or measure to consider?
    A

Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide is only labeled for use in lawns, ornamental turf-grass (excluding Golf Course Greens), landscape ornamental and established perennials and wildflower plantings. It is not labeled for use in or around edible vegetation. You can look at a pre-emergent like Hi-Yield Herbicide Granules or Monterey Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder. These products would be a better option for pre-emergent weed control in tomatoes as directed on the product label.
