I have a pine tree infested with pine beetles. The three pines around it are still healthy and do not have beetles. My tree guy said to spray Dragnet 15 feet up the healthy trees to prevent the beetles from migrating. Have you heard of using the product in this way? Do you know if it works?
Your tree guy was correct. Using a permethrin based product such as Dragnet sprayed from the base up to 15 ft up the trunk is the recommended preventative treatment. You should contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.
