    Q
Is Dominion 2L good to kill emerald ash borer? How often is applied I want to save one tree.
    A
Dominion 2L is labeled to use on trees to help protect against boring beetles. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 10-14 days after applications to encourage uptake.

    Q
Can Dominion 2L be injected directly to holes drilled in a live tree?
Some "tree care" products are sold that provide a syringe to inject 5% Imidacloprid directly into the trunk of the tree affected by Bronze birch beetles etc as a way to quickly introduce the product to the insects. Can I dilute your product and use it in the same way?
    A
You can apply Dominion 2L as a drench any where between the base and drip line of the tree. You want to make sure that  you keep the soil moist for up to 7 days after applicaiton to ensure the product will be more quickly soaked into the root system. We do not recommend Injecting Dominion into the live tree. Please follow the product label for instructions.

    Q
I did a full trench treatment with Dominion 2L last year. What should I now use as a annual treatment?
Could I use a repellant such as Demon or Bifen or continue with Dominion?
    A
Dominion 2L should only be applied in a trench for a perimeter treatment for termites once every 7 years. Using an insect such as Demon WP or Bifen can be applied to the top of the soil for general insect control monthly on the exterior of the structure and once every 90 days to indoor cracks and crevices.

How much Dominion/gal for foliar application to evergreen bushes?
    A
If you want to do a foliar application you will need to use about .45 ML per gallon of water. If you want to do a soil drench you will need 3 to 6 ml of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter. Q
Can Dominion be sprayed on floor joists
There is termite activitie in floor joists which are cover by a drop ceiling in the basement. Can Dominion or Termidor be sprayed on the wood? Or should the trench treatment be done first and then followed with Boracare?
    A
If you see galleries the termites have eaten away in the floor joists you can spot treat directly in those galleries with Dominion or Termidor. However if the direct galleries can not be accessed, spraying the wood would not be recommended nor helpful as it will not penetrate into the wood. Do a soil treatment with either of the products, give it 90 days to eliminate the colony, then treat the floor joists with Boracare for a life long prevention on the wood.

  • Asked by Todd from East Point, Ga
    06/07/2015
    Q
Is it necessary to trench in crawl space if I trenched exterior and used Dominion 2L in ground?
We trenched the entire exterior and used Dominion 2L. I don't think it is possible to trench in crawl space....any other options to protect the house/kill termites in sill plates? I was thinking about injecting foam into sites where we find soft wood. I have some Dominion left, can I inject that? If so, how? Thank you!
    A
If you have used Dominion 2L, and you are able to trench inside the crawl space, you should do so. You should also trench around any piers under the house that have contact with the soil. You can apply Dominion 2L as a liquid or as a foam into areas of active infestation to spot treat. Keep in mind that damage without any live termites could be old and no longer an active site.
