    Q
What is the mix rate and application rate for Dominion 2L used as a drench to treat Emerald Ash Borers?
I live in Kentucky, at what time(s) should the mix be asppied and how?
    A
Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 10-14 days after applications to encourage uptake.

    Q
Can I use Dominion 2L Termiticide on potted hibiscus trees?
We have two large potted hibiscus trees that are brought inside the house during winter. we treated with Bonide systemic granules for infestation of whiteflies, but will have to retreat in two months. Both products' main ingredient is imidaclorid. Can I use Dominion 2l as systemic treatment since it would be more economical? Also, when outside, would systemic residue be present in the blooms, causing harm to honeybees?
    A

Dominion 2L cannot be applied to potted or containerized plants. You could apply this to hibiscus if they were in the soil outdoors only. Honey bees could potentially be affected by the active ingredient if applied while the plants are in bloom.

    Q
How does Dominion 2L kill ants?
I mixed one ounce per gallon and sprayed them but they just walk right through it like nothing at all. I watch a few several minutes but they didn't die. how long does it take?
    A
Dominion  2L does kill ants. The product is specifically designed to be a non-repellent which means the ants will not be able to tell that it is there and will readily walk through treated areas. The product is also designed to have a delayed reaction kill which allows the ants to get back to the colony and spread the insecticide to the other ants before they start to feel the effect of the product. You should see the full effect of using Dominion 2L within 1-3 weeks when you are using as recommended on the product label.

    Q
Dominion 2L - Please explain measure of diameter of tree. Bayer Advance which is similar states differently/
What is the proper way to measure the tree diameter? Bayer Advance, which is similar but much more expensive recomends measuring the circumference, not the diameter. So for bayer, you would measure around the tree. What is the recommended method for measuring for Domion 2L
    A

Each product is formulated differently and the actual application rates are different so the instructions on each product are specific for that specific product. Here are the measuring instructions that should be followed for Dominion 2L:

How to find the DBH or Diameter at Breast Height of a tree

    1. To find the diameter of the tree, measure the circumference of the tree four feet from the ground.  Use your tape measure to get accurate measurements from the ground to the four-foot mark and around the tree.

The circumference of my tree is _____________________

         (include units)

    2.  Calculate the diameter of your tree:

    _________________ ÷  pi (3.14) = _____________________

        circumference                                  diameter (include units)

Note: For multi-stem trees, such as crape myrtle or birches, the rate should be determined on cumulative stem diameter for all stems in the clump.

    Q
What are the effects of higher concentration use of Dominion 2L?
Termites mudtubes were noticed along the door frame, I obiviously diluted 6ounces instead of 0.6 per gallon of water and injected it into the door frame. Few termites were seen crawling out of the cracked door frame and died shortly. Just wondering if the higher concentrated solution was too strong that caused the termites to die instantly instead of allowing them to contact the chemical and infect the rest of the colony?
    A
Unfortunately you are correct. The stronger solution killed the termites very quickly preventing them from going back to the colony.

    Q
I installed Termidor 2 yrs ago then it rained, would you retreat with Dominion2L.
I paid an exterminator he said the outside treatment was all that was needed. He said termites travel in and out of house and all inside would die from exterior treatment only. Is that true? Would heavy rain damage Thermidor treatment?
    A
The termite professional was correct for the most part. The only time this will not work as described is if the colony was directly under your home. In that type of case you would need to direct treat the nest in the home. Heavy rains should not disturb the barrier if it was applied properly in a trench.

    A
Dominion is not labeled for use on peach trees. We recommend you use a product that is labeled for ant and peach borers and can be used on edible vegetation. Martins Vegetable Plus spray would be a good choice for this type of treatment.

    Q
What is the best product for treating Florida White Fly? I have 75 palms and 25 Gumbo Limbo.
I manage a property in Florida Keys. Need to know what is the best product and how much to apply on each tree and how much product do I need.
    A
You will want to use a systemic insecticide such as Dominion 2L to control the whitefly. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the palm. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
I am using Dominion 2L Termiticide on a termite infested stump...
I purchased Dominion 2L to use on an old stump that is infested with termites. The stump is about 6-8' from the house. There are no signs as of yet that the termites have been in the house. What is the best way to apply to the stump? Also, should I dig a trench in the soil around the perimeter of the stump and apply there as well?
    A
You can drill into the stump and then inject Dominion 2L into the stump using a hand pump sprayer. You can also choose to trench around the stump and apply the product to the trench. If your house has not received a termite barrier treatment in the last 5 years you should plan trenching and treating around your home as well: How To Do A Termite Treatment

    Q
What product do I need to get rid of black ataenius beetles?
    A
Products containing imidacloprid are the top choice for controlling this pest. Dominion 2L is often used to treat for Black turfgrass ataenius. For optimum control, make applications preceding or during the egg laying period of the target pest. The active ingredient in Dominion 2L has enough residual activity so that applications can be made preceding the egg laying activity. Application timing can be based on historical monitoring of the site, previous records or experiences, current season adult trapping or other methods. Most favorable control will be achieved when applications are made prior to egg hatch of the target pests, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient through the thatch.
