It is vital before you perform a bed bug treatment to prepare the room or rooms where bed bugs have been found. You can find great resources and guides on our website at DoMyOwn.com.
We recommend using our bed bug kits for a complete and thorough bed bug treatment. When you get your bed bug kit, you will get an aerosol can with its own aerosol applicator, dust with its own dust applicator, and liquid insecticide to do a treatment around bedroom and areas of the living space. In some of our bed bug kits, you will also see our sterilizers, which kill bed bugs on contact.
The first product we will use is our aerosol insecticide which features a fine crack and crevice that is inserted into the nozzle for fine cracks and crevices. It is important to use the aerosol on tufts, seams, and folds of the mattress until it is damp. It is important to allow the mattress to dry before putting fresh linens and sheets back on the mattress.
We also have our mattress encasements. If you choose not to use our mattress encasements, we do recommend using our aerosol insecticides until you see no bed bug activity.
After your mattress has been taken care of, it's time to treat the room or rooms where bed bugs have been found and the rooms that share walls with affected rooms. Mix your liquid insecticide labeled for bed bugs with water in a pump sprayer using the ratio found on the product label to create a bed bug spray. Spray onto baseboards, around bed frames and under furniture. Do not broadcast across the entire carpet or floors. Once the insecticidal spray is dry, you can follow up with a bed bug aerosol insecticide. Inspect and treat furniture in the affected rooms. Much like your mattresses, the tufts, seams, and folds will require special attention. Treat the wheels, castors, posts, and legs of all furniture as bed bugs may be harboring there. Treat and spray along the edges of the carpets and where carpets meet the baseboards. Spray around door frames, window frames, and thresholds. Another space to apply these insecticides is picture and wall hangings.
Remove from the wall and treat the back and corners of each wall hangings. After spraying with an insecticide and following bed bug aerosol, the next step is eliminating bed bugs to apply a bed bug dust insecticide. Bed bug dust can be applied with a hand duster. You should treat around electrical covers or faceplates by removing faceplates from outlets and dust on the inside wall voids. The area where the carpet meets and baseboards should be dusted along with areas where the wall meets and cracks and corners of boxspring.
Repeat application as needed and make sure to read the product label for how often you can safely re-apply the products.
