    Q
Is Drione Dust safe around people and pets?
I have a newborn and two dogs. If we were to buy Drione Dust and treat our house for ticks, can I have the newborn and dogs in the house while treating? If not, how long until we can go back into the house? Also, is it safe to be in the house after treatment with a newborn and two dogs?
    A
Drione Dust is a very safe product and also very effective.  Like any product. you need to make sure you apply it as directed and read all instructions for it to work properly on insects and be safe for your family.  Drione Dust is meant to be applied in cracks and crevices, underneath appliances and inside wall voids.  If you apply it correctly and in these types of areas, it will not be accessible for your pets and children to come in contact with but it will be in the places that bugs like to hide.  You do not have to remove the pets and children while you are treating, but it would be a good idea to have them in a different room while you are applying the dust.  After 30 minutes have passed after you have applied the product, it is perfectly safe for them to be back in the room that you treated.

    Q
What is the shelf life of Drione dust?
    A
Drione Dust will remain effective as long as it stays dry.  You should keep the lid on at all times and keep it away from moisture.  We have customers that have had Drione Dust for over 5 years and it is still effective.

    Q
What's the difference between Delta Dust and Drione Dust?
Besides being waterproof, what is the difference between Drione Dust and Delta Dust?
    A
The only real difference is that they are different active ingredients. Delta Dust has an active ingredient of Deltamethrin, and Drione Dust is a 1% natural pyrethrin.  Both are very effective and our most popular dust products that we sell.  They just kill the insect in different ways.  Either is a great choice.

    Q
    Is Drione Dust water proof?
If I were to dust the perimeter of my house and yard, would it stand up to water? And if not, what would you recommend?
    A
Drione dust is not waterproof. The only dust that is waterproof is Delta Dust. Delta is also labeled to kill most of the same insects as the Drione dust.

    Q
What's the difference between bedbug spray and dust?
    A
Sprays come either in a can or a concentrate that you mix with water. Sprays need to be re-applied every 7-10 days in most situations. Dusts need to be applied with a hand duster and most last for around 6 months. When you are dealing with bedbugs, it is important that you use both a dust and a spray. The reasoning behind this is that while dusts may last a long time, they also take a long time to kill the bedbug(time that the bedbug will still be able to breed), bite and lay eggs. Sprays offer a faster kill, but do not last very long. Also, dusts must only be applied to areas that will later be inaccessible such as wall voids, under furniture, under carpets, etc. Many of the bedbug sprays can be applied to the mattress, box spring, couch and other areas that are a bit more sensitive. Professional standards require the use of both dusts and sprays. We recommend purchasing one of our bedbug kits as they come with all of the insecticide products you need to do a proper treatment.

    Q
I have a swarm of bees (over 2000) that went into a wall through cracks around wall air conditioner.
Will Drione Dust kill the entire nest? How big can it get in a 4 day period?
    A
Bees do reproduce but every colony is different and most would not grow too much in size in 4 days.  Treating a colony is actually quite easy if you know where the entry/exit point is.  Drione Dust will work great for this, along with a B&G 1150 Bulb Duster.  At night after dusk when the bee activity is in the wall for the night, go up to their entry/exit point and place the duster in the hole and puff twice.  Then pull the duster out of the hole and dust directly at the hole, coating the entry point.  When the bees fly in and out in the morning they will get the dust on their bodies and bring it back into the wall where they are nesting.  The bees will pass the dust around and usually within 24 - 48 hours depending on colony size the colony should be dead.

    Q
How quickly does Drione kill bees?
I have several honey bee queens going into several small holes around the house that were made long ago by termite extermiators. I never saw this happen before. I have some Drione purchased 1 1/2 years ago. I used duster to apply Drione in some of the holes that I have seen honey bees going into. I have seen one bee going in and out several times over an hour or so while I patiently watched apparently unaffected by the dust. I had expected a quicker result. I say they are queens because, except for a few that seem to have settled on a hole, they appear to be examining potential places to call home. They are fuzzy and have some brown or orange color.
    A

Drione Dust can take time to kill an insect.  The bees that have picked up the Drione Dust from the treated holes will die, but not until the bees ingest the dust.  When bees walk through a hole or land on a surface that you dusted, they pick up the dust on their bodies.  Later, when they groom themselves as most insects do, they will ingest the small dust particles and die soon after.  All dust products work better the less you apply.  You should only apply a very thin light dusting of the material.  So it can take a few hours up to 24 or so to kill them.

    Q
What is the best time of day to apply Drione dust to the hole where the carpenter bees are?
    A
You should treat stinging insects early morning or late evening as these are the times of day that the insects are less active and less likely to sting you.

    Q
How much area does a 1-pound container of Drione Dust cover?
How much area does a 1-pound container of Drione Dust cover? I would be using it for a wasp problem around the sliding glass door.
    A
The area that a 1 pound container of Drione Dust covers will depend on a lot of factors.  However, the dust goes a very long way.  Especially for wasps, you only need to apply 1 or 2 quick puffs in the area where they are entering and exiting.  Typically a pound of dust would be enough to treat once every 3 months in all voids of a house and last at least 1 year.  One pound should be plenty for your problem and leave plenty left over for future problems.

    Q
Can I safely use Drione dust on a mattress? Under the sofa?
I bought Drione dust and it says the mattress should be dusted to treat bedbugs but it also says people shouldn't touch it? In a related question, can I apply the dust to the underside of my sofa?
    A
You can safely apply Drione dust to areas that are listed on the Drione product label. When using on a mattress stick to the tufts, folds, and edges of the mattress and then put the mattress pad and sheets back on the mattress so you do not directly contact treated areas. You can also safely dust the underside of your sofa as that is an area that will not be readily accessible to skin contact.

I purchased Drione Dust in 1999. It still seems to work. How affective is it at this age?
    A
The manufacturer recommends that you use Drione Dust within 3 years of the date of purchase to ensure maximum efficacy. That being said, Drione does contain Amorphous Silica Gel which is a desiccant that can last indefinitely.

    A
Applications of Drione dust should be limited to areas that will inaccessible to children such as cracks and crevices. If a child does come into contact with the dust, they should wash up immediately with plenty of soap and water. According to the MSDS, Drione dust does not cause skin irritation but like most products could cause issues if it is ingested.

    Q
    Is Drione dust toxic?
I am pregnant and we have bed bugs in our mattress (my cousin gave us her king size mattress) and now we have pests. I want to be able to keep the mattresses if we can get rid of these bugs.
    A

Drione Dust is a very safe and non-toxic product, but like any other product or cleaning chemical you need to follow the instructions and use as directed.  You would want to apply the dust where you would not come into contact with it while sleeping.  You would be better off purchasing one of our bed bug proof mattress encasements.  Then you would not have to treat the mattress at all, once it was covered and enclosed any bed bugs that were on the mattress would not be able to get off and feed or move around.

    Q
Large Roaches in attic what to use?
Large roaches about 1" in length show up in my home's attic and sometimes on the second floor in various rooms. I have recently minimized any water from the attic Air Conditioning unit's condensation by wrapping pipes with insulation. My home is located in Los Angeles, CA, where summers result in very hot attic temperatures. What else can I do, and what is the best product to kill these large roaches?
    A

Sounds like you are off to a great start! If you are having a problem with roaches (water bugs), you should look at treating more than just the attic, especially since the roaches are coming in from the outside. We would highly suggest you look at getting one of our Roach Control Kits for indoor and home perimeter use, and a granular insecticide for long term control in the yard around the home to cut down on the numbers in your area. The Roach Kits provide you with all the products you need to effectively and efficiently get rid of the infestation at its source rather than just where you see them, and by purchasing them in our kit rather than separately you save money as we have discounted these items. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

    Q
Difference between Drione Dust and Suspend SC
    A

There are many difference between Drione Dust and Suspend SC. Suspend SC is a concentrate that is mixed with water. It can be used indoors around the baseboards, cracks and crevices and/or outdoors around the perimeter of the home. It can be also be broadcast across your lawn. The residual indoors is about 90 days. The residual outdoors is about 30 days.

Drione Dust is an odorless insecticide dust. It is mainly used inside the wall voids to protect from various pests. It is effective for up to six months if left undisturbed. When applying Drione dust, here are some tips:

    * Within food areas, application of DRIONE® is limited to crack and crevice treatment only.
    * Care should be taken to avoid depositing the product onto exposed surfaces or introducing the material into the air. Avoid contamination of food or food processing surfaces.
    * For applications in non-food areas, apply a continuous visible film where insects hide:
    - Underneath and behind stairs, refrigerators and appliances
    - On, around, and behind moldings, shelving, baseboards, pipe openings, cracks and crevices
    * For severe infestations, apply Drione behind cabinets and walls, in crawl spaces and attics.

    Q
How do you apply Drione Dust for a flea infestation in my home?
    A
Drione dust alone will not be able to get rid of your flea infestation because it is not labeled to be used in many key areas. According to the Drione product label," Apply a continuous visible film underneath and behind stairs, refrigerators and appliances. Treat on, around and behind moldings, shelving, baseboards, pipe openings, cracks, crevices, and other areas where insects hide. For severe infestations, apply Drione behind cabinets and walls, in crawl spaces and attics at the rate of 16 ounces per 1000 square feet of surface area." For complete flea control, you should use products that are labeled to be used over carpets, rugs and on animal resting areas. We recommend using Ultracide in combination with Flea Stoppers for an effective flea treatment. We have put these products together in an Indoor Flea Kit for your convenience. We also carry an Outdoor/Indoor kit that will treat the fleas inside and outside. Be sure to vacuum immediately before applying the products and every day for the next two weeks to help stimulate the fleas so they will come into contact with the products that you have applied. A second treatment should be applied 14 days after the first treatment

    Q
How quickly can Drione Dust 'cake up' due to atmospheric moisture if it never directly touches water?
Will caked up Drione dust remain effective? I have a feeling that Drione dust will be more effective against bedbugs than Delta dust, but I am worried about moisture causing it to become ineffective.
    A
Your question is really difficult to answer accurately. It will really depend on how much moisture is in the environment where the dust is applied. Drione dust only works if it is dry. Drione dust tends to work just fine without caking in a normal home environment. Both Delta Dust and Drione dust seem to work very well for bedbugs and both take about 3-5 days to kill insects.

    Q
Can I use Drione Dust as often as I want and would it still work?
Can I spray this on appliances like microwaves and refrigerator to kill roaches that might be hiding inside?
    A

Drione Dust should only be applied to cracks and crevices, voids and other listed areas on the product label when it has been removed or once every 6 months (if left undisturbed). We do NOT suggest treating the appliances with the product. For more information on a successful treatment program, please review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Roaches.
