Ruined my Zoysia
By Jeremy on 09/02/2020
Ordered this product because it stated it was zoysia friendly. The zoysia had been growing great for 6 weeks from seed, but the weeds were starting to come in strong as well. I marked off my 1000sf sections and applied to exact mixing measurements and sprayed. The weeds never even drooped, but all my new zoysia is brown and dead. I even have a very large tree in middle that all the leaves are now dead on that may be dead now. The weeds are all growing like crazy tho. Do NOT recommend this product on zoysia.

Poor results
By Woody on 07/08/2022
Very slow to kill crab grass if it worked at all. Only some of the spot treaded crabs died after 3 weeks. What it did do was severely burned my hybrid 419 Bermuda grass. That is still recovering. Mixed exactly as directed and used the recommended surfactant. Expensive mistake on my part. Wished I could get my money back!
Expert response:
We are sorry to hear that the product did not work as expected and are happy to troubleshoot any issues.
Drive is a very slow kill on crabgrass depending on the tiller stage of the crabgrass. It may take up to six weeks to completely control crabgrass and may require a repeat treatment. For consistent results, make Drive XLR8 application to newly germinated, to 1-tiller crabgrass, and when crabgrass has matured to 5 tillers or greater. When treating between the 2-4 tiller stage, repeat application may be required. If you treated during this time this would be where you see very slow results.
To explain tiller stages we have a video here to review
https://www.domyown.com/do-my-own-lawn-care-talking-tiller-stages-v-319.html
Do you know what stage the crabgrass you treated on was?
Was the bermuda just recently seeded or sodded?
What are you seeing now and have you applied a repeat application?
We appreciate your working with us to come to resolution and look forward to hearing from you!

Drive
By Ted on 08/09/2022
Have sprayed crabgrass three times still not dead has barley turnd colors 2 weeks later still the same
Expert response:
We apologize you did not achieve the intended results. Drive works best on young newly emerged weeds, more mature weeds may require repeat application, it can also take up to 6 weeks to completely kill weeds. Drive also requires the use of an MSO surfactant for best results. We would welcome the opportunity to troubleshoot the application to help get you the results you need. Don't Waste Your Money
By Heather on 09/19/2022
Given that I spent $71 on a bottle of this stuff, I was very optimistic that it work on my crab grass. After numerous applications - no such luck. Very disappointed.
Expert response:
We apologize you did not receive the expected results from using Drive. Drive is known as one of the best crabgrass herbicides in on the market and is used daily by professional lawn care companies. There can be certain stressors such as high heat, drought and not including a surfactant etc that can cause treatment failure.
We would welcome the opportunity to troubleshoot the application to help get you the results you need. Please contact us at your earliest convenience!

Kills Bermuda grass
By Kenneth on 04/19/2023
Product states that it can be used on bermuda grasses but unfortunately it's starting to kill my grass but not doing anything to the crabgrass and weeds. I should have known better when it killed my tall fescue as well. I thought maybe I did something wrong, but seeing as how it's doing the same on my bermuda, I'm pretty sure it's this product. Sad, because my yard is so green with multiple patches of dying yellow and brown.
Expert response:
We apologize you did not achieve the intended results. The label does state that Yellow that occurs on bermuda can be reduced by the addition of chelated iron or sprayable soluble nitrogen fertilizer. You also want to avoid applications during spring green up of bermuda as this is when it is most sensitive.
We would welcome the opportunity to troubleshoot the application to help get you the results you need.

Kills your grass
By Kenneth on 04/24/2023
Be careful, this stuff will kill your grass. Said it's safe for bermudagrass, but it's actually killing off my grass and not the crabgrass or other targeted weeds. I wanted this product to work as I tried it on 2 different types of grasses and didn't work on either. Very disappointed with this product. Buyer beware
Expert response:
Drive is labeled safe for bermudagrass when used as directed. The label does state: Yellowing that occurs on bermuda can be reduced by the addition of chelated iron or sprayable soluble nitrogen fertilizer. When treating in the spring, you should avoid any applications during spring green up when the lawn is coming out of dormancy as this is the most sensitive time for bermuda and it could be injured.

Didn't work for me
By John on 04/28/2023
First, the instructions give you application rates per 1,000 square feet. I'm doing spot spraying and I need to know ounces per gallon in the sprayer. I guessed to the high side, and hit some large plants. Virtually no impact.

The Weeds Seem To Love This
By Mike on 04/30/2023
Had high hopes from other reviewers that this product would take care of at least some of our weed problems caused by an over abundance (of needed) rain. I paid extra for the kit which included the herbicide, surfactant and indicator die as recommended. Made sure to use the proper amount of each product according to their directions, but the only result after more than two weeks was healthy weeds. The Fox-tails and Johnson Grass are still doing well. So.... I recommend that you save your money and buy something else!
Expert response:
Drive XLR8 can take up to 3-6 weeks to see full results on targeted weeds and a second application may be needed for more established weeds. Keep in mind, for best results, applications should be applied to listed weeds when they are young and actively growing and temperatures are between 65-85 degrees.

Drive Crabgrass Killer

Unexceptable Results
By Dan on 08/02/2024
Used the product primarily to address crabgrass. Within a week, the crabgrass within a 20 ft x 20 ft area showed signs of wilting. The rest of my acre of which I sprayed at the same time seemed to be immuned to the product... So I won't be purchasing Drive XLR 8 again.

Not Impressed
By Matt on 07/11/2011
For the cost and effectiveness, I would not buy this product again. Using the recommended doage, the herbicide only stunted the growth of some weeds, and even killed some of the grass. Most of the weeds remained unchanged. I am going to try going beyond the dosage to see if this works, but as of right now, it is not worth the hefty price tag.

Not as Expected
By Brad on 09/12/2012
I thought I had finally found the ative crabgrass killer. In some ways I did. It does kill crabgrass that is cut really low prior to the application. On other areeas, where I mow on a 3.5 to 4 setting, it does nothing at all. I used the surfactant as well, and it is just not what I was hoping for when I ordered.

Not impressed so far
By Jason on 08/30/2015
I sprayed drive xlr8 over my lawn a few weeks ago per the mixing instructions and haven't noticed good results. The front lawn I even went over twice during the same application. I've only noticed about 10% of the crab grass turn brown. I plan to re-apply since I have an abundance of this stuff. Poor results may be because the crabgrass is so mature (it was applied in August). I had anticipated better results after reading the reviews.

Drive XLR8
By Kirk on 08/02/2019
I used the entire container in 30 gallons of water with the correct amount of surfacant and I only got marginal results. Probably 50% kill rate Disappointing t say the least ,now what's left is going to seed so I guess I will try something different next year.

Crabgrass smarter than me
By Jason on 08/17/2020
I have used Drive XLR8 along with Duo Stick 3 times over the past 45 days. I have had zero luck. A few sprigs here and there turned purple for a few days but nothing ever turned white and died. First batch was 1.5oz per gallon, nothing happened, second batch was 2.5 oz per gallon and again nothing. Last batch about a week ago was 4oz per gallon and nothing. I have added the correct amount of duo stick for each spraying but zilch. It has been an extremely wet summer for TN so the product has had plenty of moisture to get absorbed into the roots. Guess I have some serious superman crabgrass or I just do not know what I am doing. Time to try a different product because the crabgrass in my yard is taking over the entire yard very quickly.
Not Happy
By Derek on 08/28/2020
After viewing several videos suggesting that using xlr8 as a remedy for crabgrass. The first problem I have is the directions do Not give you the true mixing amounts to kill the crabgrass. So it becomes trial and error in order to find the right mixture that will yield the results desired I unfortunately haven't found that mixture So I'm continuing to adjust
Hasnt worked for me
By Jordan on 09/22/2020
It will kill stuff, it hasn't killed any of the stuff I wanted. So I bought this last year used it, made sure to use the exact mixture ratio. It seemed to burn the tips of the leaves of my crabgrass, but that was it. So this year I thought I would give it a another shot, I was getting a nice crop of cloves and crabgrass. I mixed it a little bit higher of a dosage this time. It killed all my grass, but didn't kill the weeds Lololol. I am not mad it killed my grass as I didnt follow the instructions, but it has still yet to kill any weeds. And this was quite expensive, I hope everyone has better luck than me.

Disappointed
By Ryan on 09/18/2021
I had high hopes for this stuff, just as I have had with previous expensive herbicides I've tried. First the good. My crabgrass is turning brown and I assume it will eventually die, although it's too early to say for certain. Another application may be necessary. The bad is that it has had zero effect on any other weeds in my yard. Both wild violet and ground ivy are thriving after treatment, which is unfortunate. I have spent hundreds of dollars on herbicides and followed the directions precisely. I have consistently been let down by these more expensive products that don't live up to their expectations. In my personal opinion, a cheap bottle if 2 4 D is the most cost effective solution for weed control that I have found thus far, but I will continue my quest. I do think I am done with the upper end products. They seem to be better at killing my wallet more than weeds.
It didn't work.
By C on 04/22/2023
I read the description and applied it accordingly. It really didn't work at all. The crabgrass is growing.
Expert response:
When using Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer for crabgrass, it’s best to apply at either the very young stage or the most mature stage of the crabgrass. When treating between the 2-4 tiller stage, repeat application may be required and may not get complete control. You should make your applications while temperatures are between 65 and 85 degrees for best results.

XLR8
By Gjroman on 10/08/2014
The fall application appears to have killed the crabgrass which was my intent. Spring will indicate if it was a job well done. Why can't the spec simply say how many oz. of product to use per gallon of H2O for various applications?
Expert response:
When applying herbicides, it is most important to apply to correct amount of product per area for the best results. Because your water is only a carrier, how much water is needed to accurately distribute the herbicide will vary greatly depending on the type of equipment, density of vegetation, and moisture content in the soil. We recommend calibrating your equipment with water first to determine what mixture works best for your application and with your equipment.
